Putting My Feet in the Dirt 29

“A case of the pucchips, I believe.”

“What? Hiccups?”

“No, Madame, certainly not. I am referring to something missing on your computer.”

“Then will “pucchips” fix the problem? I haven’t been able to log onto any social media.”

“That is my observation, yes.”

“So how do I fix it?”

“My dear woman, you are not capable of repairing this problem, and if I’m perfectly honest, neither can I.”

The woman sighed, hoping this however snobbish clerk, would remedy her computer problems. “Guess I’ll just have to mail it back to Apple.”

“If you wish, but I could have my assistant try something,” and took her laptop to the back room, returning about five minutes later.”

The woman paid her bill and returned home. That evening she opened her computer to read the latest posts from her Facebook friends. It seemed at first all was well and then up popped a tiny fluorescent green figure. It seemed to be looking straight at her and was quite animated. It jumped around over the screen and then looked as if it was reading all the messages.

It seems the computer store had been designated as one of thousands of secret satellite Facebook stations that collected people’s private information through little green creatures known as pucchips.

Daily Addictions Prompt: Gradual

Here I go, taking a Prompt and completely ruining any redeeming qualities of it. I was thinking last night on another bit of trying to forget the day and drift off to sleep, that life is certainly not gradual. The only thing gradual the last year has been the success of a loved one desperate to find a better job. However, nothing was gradual with the bad stuff. The expenses just kept rolling in, building up, discouraging news every month. Everything came fast except relief.

When I first started to think of this word, I thought of aging. It seems you look around and never cease to be amazed at how fast children grow and change while looking at yourself, you fail to realize your own gradual changes taking over. I wish of course, gradual for all of us, stretching out our time together.

Hey, it’s party time!

I found out today that the loved one achieved the goal and has that better job. What a relief! But it took a long time, perseverance, patience and gumption. Remember that word, gumption?

Dom for domestic goddess. No, I’m not a fan of Roseanne but I liked the title. Hmmm, cloudy and cooler, autumn is upon us. Got out the few decorations I have today and here they are. Years ago I decorated each holiday with gusto. I had a basically white walled home with doors of white, ceramic white tile with streaks of mauve. It was the opposite of our previous home and was a marvelous backdrop for each season. There was a see-through fireplace that could be enjoyed from the living room and den. Of course it was in Houston so the fireplace was only used during the holidays. I loved that house. I’m afraid it is no longer livable after the last flood.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 27 and 28

Sipping her tea, said to the maid

This tea could have been better made

A hint of mint would help it out

And tea always aids to cure my gout

☕️☕️☕️

The maid was tired of the old woman’s rants

Went to the garden for mint perchance

What she found made her hop and dance

Putrid plants and inquisitive ants!

☕️☕️☕️

Welcome to my world

I was on the phone with Dish to see if my replacement box had been sent yet, it had been seven days. After twenty minutes of I don’t know what they were doing, on and off hold, but to a pleasant helper, my phone pinged, and kept pinging. Not wanting to get off and endure the automated holds before reaching an actual person again, I ignored it. After another ten when I was done with my call I looked to see what was up and found this:

I’ve got to hand it to her, no matter what is happening, good or bad, our sense of humor reigns!😂❤️ By the time I answered he was already at the door.☺️

This has happened a couple of times, once ending up in a harried visit to my apartment because they couldn’t get me on the phone. There was no problem except my phone had been temporarily disconnected when switching plans. My daughter and family live three minutes away, so they rushed over to make sure I was ok. That is very comforting.

I do receive texts but always know when it’s my daughter because it’s at least two pings in a row. She is fast fingered on her phone. I am not and if I try to hurry and send it usually has errors.

The Fortune Teller

“Come in, my dear. Oh, he’s perfectly harmless, besides he’s old, no longer has teeth. I have collected many items over the years, from clients without money.” The young woman hestitated before sitting at the table, which held a crystal ball, candles, and a dark starry shawl covering.

“What may I help you with, child?” The saddened girl spoke her dilemma, recently been diagnosed with a serious illness, wanting to know how long she would live. “What gift did you bring”, as she took the girl’s palm.

The young woman could offer no compensation. “Well, then, my dear, not long”.

Three Line Tales, Week 139

MLMM Tale Weaver – The Last Hrtedyp

Well it wasn’t just a fluke. Mrs. Smythe loved the hrtedyp, well they all did, they just didn’t know it. I mean, who doesn’t love chocolate? It came about on a day in October, you know those days, everything a little cooler, air crisper, crackling leaves on the doorstep. I love those days–but I digress.

It was just such a day, October fifteen, and the village was having a harvest festival. During the festival there were always contests where locals would put up their finest wares, whether it be a large pumpkin, jams and jellies made from their orchards, or landscape paintings of autumn leaves.

Old Mrs. Smythe always won the cake baking contest, yup, every year, with her magical chocolate cake. She never divulged her secret recipe and many excellent bakers tried to replicate this delightful cake but with no success. This year was no different, she proudly displayed the blue ribbon beside her confection. This would be her last victory in the baking contest. The last of her secret ingredient, the dried leaves of hrtedyp were used this year.

She came upon this unusual plant the first year she won the contest. While walking in the woods, she saw it, and since she was a nature lover and used herbs in her everyday cooking, pinched it a bit to learn its scent. It was chocolate, deep and dark and almost overwhelming. She decided to try a chocolate cake recipe adding the mysterious herb.

Then it began, her family adored the flavor so much they insisted she enter the baking contest at the festival. That was ten years ago today. The obscure plant was never to be found again.

Word of the Day: Alliance

Living in an apartment

Is different than a private abode

Everything in every department

Has to have its home

Then there’s the issue of compliance

With etablished rules

Unless you make a manager’s alliance

Which is not easy to do.

Yesterday I visited to sign a new year’s lease

The manager was friendly

Began to chat endlessly with ease

Discussion on her part was mostly a complaint

About the jobs she had to do, believe me, she’s no saint

Then came a delivery of office supplies

She looked at me and rolled her eyes

The worst part of the job she said

Was shelving items, which she dread

Then talked on about packages, her apartment units many

The holidays deliver lots and patience? She has not any

She changed it now, no longer takes deliveries of Christmas gifts

It seems the huge amount arriving seemed to give her fits

I listened and when able to speak, “I’m glad to hear your side.

I like to have deliveries to be left at my door side.

When they came just to your office, it was such a pain

Your open hours are so brief it caused me quite a strain.

I can’t wheel up here when there’s snow or ice”, I said,

“The wheels don’t work and just spin in place on treads.

I’m glad they are told to just deliver to my door”.

Added, “I’m happy you’re not inconvenienced anymore.

I never thought your job could be such a pain”.

I smiled and left, ended listening to her complain.
