Putting My Feet in the Dirt 13 and 14

There were worrisome wailings emanating from under the house. The keepers of the corpses resided above. On the first floor of the home an ordinary family resided. The basement was missing since they lived at sea level, but the building itself was raised a bit on stilts in case of flood.

The Schamansky families had lived there for about two hundred years, so the history contained within the walls of the abode was varied and discreet. Discreet to all but their closest neighbors.

Being so close to the sea the Schamanskys had many a visitor from various cargo, pirate, and passenger ships. Most visitors arrived by accident of course, but some were retrieved from shore and buried under the house.

They weren’t trying to hide anything. It was not their fault the visitors arrived nearly dead or completely dead. The Schamanskys always thought it their duty to accommodate anyone that landed on their shoreline, and if the person survived they were fed and clothed and sent on their way. The many unfortunate souls who did not, were interred with a few solemn words under the safety of the Schamansky dwelling.

A Saturday Night Laugh

My grandson spent the night since it was snowing, roads closed and his parents stuck on the highway till midnight. We were playing games and the power went out. Not just here but this whole section of the city. He was freaked out. We had candles and matches so not a problem. I have the old “also serves as a weapon” flashlight (by the remote for scale) that weighs about ten pounds😳 so we were fine. I was surprised he was pretty upset.

The power came back on for a few minutes and then off again. In the meantime I called his older sister who was at home by herself, to make sure she was fine. She was. Texted the parents to let them know all was well. It was odd. Wifi completely screwed until ten this morning. Still isn’t working well. No news reporting what happened. . .do I hear Twilight Zone music?👻

My phone showed photos but nothing else, so I got a laugh out of him, finally, when I showed him one I took of a t-shirt at Walmart on Friday:

Have a great afternoon! It’s freezing here❄️⛄️❄️

Three Line Tales #141 – Personality Colors

I see you staring. Like what you see? Not many people are able to see the real me, and I’m surprised you can. You look fairly normal, so why are you interested in me?

To a few, I share my whole self. Colors you see represent a part of myself. My basic navy blue is my every day feeling. . .boring isn’t it? That is why I spice it up with my orange eyebrows. Bright blue is my hidden personality trying to break through. Hot pink is my happiness and yellow my quiet voice. Green represents normality. . .red, anger of course.

Word of the Day: Troll and RDP: Fleek

Late because we had blackouts yesterday and no wifi all night. I thought it had published but. . .no😳🙄

***

Wow, those are some mighty fine warts you have there, Stoney.

Thank you, Snaky, I do look rather fleek today, I think.

If it’s the ladies you want to impress you’d better pull on those high laced leathers, you know, just to hide those big feet of yours.

I am proud of those troll feet and some ladies are into furry, clawed feet.

I’ll bet you can find a lady or not that’s into something, especially this time of year.

Yes, of course, our time to shine, be that as it may.

May? That’s too warm for me and there’s all those disgusting flowers and blooms! Give me a scraggly tree stripped bare and rotted gourds on the vine, that’s my heaven.

Yes, I see your point, actually I see all of your points, been sharpening them lately?

You know it! Now let’s get back in the culvert til those little trick or treaters walk by…

Daily Addictions Week #41 – Season of the Witch

The name of the spoiled little girl was Grace. She came to life on All Hallows Eve at the stroke of midnight. The room teemed with odd noises and floating mists as soon as she was born.

The doctor in attendance tried to accommodate the parents by dismissing the unusual occurrences with calm offerings of reassurance. All births were announced in the local paper, with the caption: “Beautiful new babes born” and it included Grace.

Grace’s exotic beginnings followed her all of her life until the age of 16. At the stroke of midnight on her fifteenth year, Grace evolved into a full fledged witch.

Her parents had tried to modify her witchy ways, with no results. They shut her in her room for most of the day and in a locked closet at night.

Her first act of witchery was to imprison her parents in their room so she was free to do what she chose.

Scotts Daily Prompt: Flush

How could I resist such a prompt? I’m a kid at heart : )

***

I said push the handle

If you want to flush

And believe me

There is a rush

Kids and men take mags or a book

While they’re waiting they like to look

To distract from doing their business

Never spray, too much prissiness

If ever they use all left on the roll

Or heaven forbid need to clean the bowl

It’s a woman’s job, they can’t be bothered

Were these males ever mothered?

Face it – bathroom cleaning’s a woman’s job

If you need it done, don’t ask Bob.

The Haunted Wordsmith Challenge 10-12-18

Daily Writing Challenge (DWC)

One thing I love about Halloween and this time of year is that the veil between what is and what is possible is very thin. One area of literature where possibilities can be seen around every corner is steampunk. As Jules Verne wrote in Journey to the Center of the Earth, “I dream with my eyes open.”

Your challenge today is to explore the world of steampunk. See where the prompt takes you and have fun.

Three Things Challenge (3TC)

For today’s Three Things Challenge, the words are: clockwork, imagine, orange.

For those who may be unfamiliar with the 3TC…simply consider the three words above and follow where they lead you.

“Steampunk is so appealing,” she said, fingering the leather straps and clockwork on the exhibitor’s costume. She made sure to linger over each piece, seeming to revel in the touch. “I can imagine it took quite a while to gather these items. Wherever did you find them?”

The man’s pride grew as he felt her appreciation of his talents.”Why, I fashioned this outfit myself. I’m glad you like it.” He stood back and took in the woman who approached him. She was also wearing steampunk era clothing, and it left little to the imagination. “I see you are an aficionado also. Did you make this yourself?”

“Certainly not, my husband made it for me. We come to the convention every year, just to have a little fun. . .you know, fun?”

“Your husband you say, is that him over there wearing that big orange lipstick kiss?”

The woman looked over her shoulder to the man sitting in a much less elaborate costume. “Why yes it is.” She turned back, winked at the man and walked off to the next exhibitor.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 12 🎃

Just an ordinary dwelling

Small, not compelling

But if you decided to walk by

Certain oddities would catch your eye

The windows were covered by curtains hung low

Holey and shredded, by what you don’t know

They say an old lady lived there alone

No friends, no tv and certainly no phone

But at night you could hear lots of yowls

It became known as the house of howls.

No visitors were ever seen

And no mice were ever keen

On attempting to enter that house, ever

Afraid that cats their throats would sever.

Chilly Willy here Friday and windy too. The sun is shining and that makes all the difference. Flu shot and grocery shopping in order, neither a thrill a minute.😳 But y’all have a nice weekend, ya heah?

Precious only brings one thing immediately to mind and it’s perfectly October ghoulishness:
