FOWC: Toxic

I want to talk about toxic relationships. It could be your mate, your parent, your sibling, your boss, or your best friend. I’ve had a couple of these relationships and what does that mean?

Being a teenager I wanted so badly to fit in, which is probably what most teens feel, that I didn’t recognize that it could end up being painful. That is life and a learning situation, I just didn’t realize it until it was too late.

As an adult, wanting something I didn’t think I would ever get, respect for my efforts, I developed another toxic relationship with a coworker. It wasn’t until years later, being more comfortable in myself, that I understood it, and moved on. I was being used.

I hope that at my age I have settled into knowing who and what is important to me.

Word of the Day: Impressionable

A fifteen year old boy, looked upon as handicapped which in his case is weird because he has no hands, being stared at by children and adults, all his life, received a huge reward. This young man is at an impressionable age of course and returned home from Boston last night. I asked him what made the biggest impact on him. He replied, meeting the Commissioner, Jackie Bradley, Jr, Alex Rodriguez, and walking out on the field of the park itself. We were all jealous here at home, especially of seeing Sharon Robinson again. She is a great person. Cameras and microphones all around. Who wouldn’t be impressed?

We all met for dinner last night and they were still excited about the trip to see the World Series. We also discussed the name because only United States’ Leagues play. This is some of what I found. According to rulesofsport.com:

Impressionable – Word of the Day Challenge

MLMM First Line Friday 10-26-18

Cass was a nightmare in white silk and pearls. He was the envy of all the other dancers at the club. It had taken months to perfect his act, and now he had a large stream of followers.

Cass’ every day life held him captive in a bookkeeping office in a shoddy part of the city. Most of his office crowd were also disgruntled but well paid employees. Cass always looked skyward to silently thank his mother for pushing him into her own profession. “It’s not exciting, Cassidy, but it pays the bills well”. He could hear her even today, ten years later

Cassidy’s dreams as a child were just that, no hope of becoming a star. He set his sights lower, and at eighteen, started to help backstage as a gofer for the “real” talent. He grew friendly with the other dancers and they convinced him to try out for a spot one night. They helped him with hair and makeup and underpinnings for the white dress. It was now his signature look, perfected over time.

Cass’ debut was a success and even though he tried it as a lark, he realized how much satisfaction he received revealing his true nature. From that day on, he was a quiet bookkeeper by day and a siren at night.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 24,25,26

(the broom of doom, greasy grimy chauffeur guts, ziglet of zombies)

*******
It didn’t take long, learning how to drive the broom of doom, especially when being a chauffeur was the dream of a lifetime. Of course most goblins liked to drive their own broom, but the witches in the area preferred a driver. Then they could sample the brews they concocted with no chance of getting a DUI.

Three such ladies of the occult were happily chatting on the rear seat of the broom when suddenly they heard a splat! And then they saw it and felt it, greasy grimy chauffeur guts, covering every inch of them! The new chauffeur was not watching close enough and ran smackdab into a parliament of owls!

Meanwhile the broom was out of control and descending fast! The witches tried to grab the handle and right themselves, but continued to fall. If it wasn’t for farmer Jones’ hay piles in the field below, well you can imagine. . .As they got up to check for injuries, a ziglet of zombies happened by.

“Hey, you ladies in for a night on the town? We promise you’ll have a ghoul of a time!” Thinking their night of fun was over with the broom accident, the witches were delighted to accept the invitation.

Three Line Tales – Afterlife

He isn’t here. I’ll keep searching, but I’m losing hope. I thought it would be different. I guess I was just dreaming, no one actually knows what happens. . .after.

Sunday afternoon we decided to take a picnic. Not a trouble in the world would defeat us. Getting away in the mountains hiking, all a great adventure and we couldn’t wait to get started. It was an accident, of course, one of those unexpected tragedies that you hope never comes in your lifetime. We hurriedly climbed together, the rocks gave way and we disappeared.

Searching for him here, in our “afterlife”.

MLMM Photo Challenge #235

It worked! I was hesitant at first, didn’t think he could actually make it happen, but here it is, finally. He promised me everything–the stars, the moon, anything I ever wanted would be mine, I only needed to ask.

I was skeptical, who wouldn’t be? Things I thought were impossible dreams were now mine. He made me believe. He said he’d give me the world if I let him.

I succumbed and now I have it. . .right here in the palm of my hand.

Word of the Day: Escapade

The Green Monster Escapade

Boston, Massachusetts, USA, is home to the baseball arena known as Fenway Park. The Green Monster is a huge wall causing a few upsets during game play.

In Wednesday’s second game of the World Series, there were two fantastic catches and I thought to myself, these players are fun to watch. The pitchers were fantastic. Such pressure on them – you could feel it! This was no boring game. It renewed my interest in baseball. I’ve seen the Astros, had great seats and bad, even in a box seat once. I’ve attended football in Houston and Denver. But Wednesday’s game was fantastic. It almost rivaled sitting in snow covered seats with peppermint schnapps hot chocolate on the fifty yard line in Denver. There’s nothing like being at a Broncos game with the fans. Having beer spilled on you because something unforeseen happened was just a bonus!

Red Sox Win!!

I admit it’s been a few years since I watched an entire baseball game, but I very much enjoyed this one. Red Sox pitchers were awesome. The slow motion showing them as they threw the ball was painful to see, made me wince, but I had to chuckle at the pre-throw poses of some pitchers. It reminded me of the Karate Kid!

Friday in LA for the next game, a lot warmer for everyone, supposed to be about 86 degrees F. We’ll be watching the rest of the series, rooting for the Red Sox. Jesse will be interviewed by ABC world news on Friday evening. I’m sure we’ll have to deal with our 15 year old’s “big head” for a few days!

Go Red Sox!!

The Haunted Wordsmith 3TC

(greenhouse, corpse, murder)

She closed her book and decided to take a walk around the resort property. The gardens were quite beautiful and she dabbled in gardening herself. The resort was owned by the matriarch of a well established family in the New England area. Most of the buildings were well preserved and the newer guest facilities had the face of history but the inside was modernly equipped.

Joan was visiting the resort as a reward of achievement from her corporation. She had looked forward to the vacation and rest. The history of the grounds was fascinating to her and she picked up some local pamphlets about the area. The autumn trees were spectacular and walking through the gardens that were still in bloom was a treat.

One of the stories in the pamphlets intrigued Joan, but asking about the details seemed to be difficult as the subject was changed in every attempt. Joan’s curiosity grew and having rested herself to boredom, she decided to investigate the story herself.

Visiting the local library, Joan found old copies of newspaper articles about the mysterious disappearance of a man who supposedly committed a murder on the property. The whole story seemed like a Jessica Fletcher television show, but Joan was not deterred. The victim was the matriarch’s husband and he was killed about ten years ago. The details of the murder itself were sketchy, almost as if no actual definitive reports were written.

That evening Joan decided to walk around the gardens again and entered the greenhouse. The usual autumn plants were displayed but in the back there were mostly dried flowers of the season. Behind these plants was an unusual site. A large soil filled container with dead looking purple roses growing. Growing, even though the rose season was over. The blooms were dead, but the stems were still green, and the soil was arranged in the shape of a body. An odd sight to be sure, Joan thought as she peered closer.

It seems the unusual display was created when the corpse of the missing murderer was buried there, right in plain sight, in the greenhouse. Apparently no one wanted to investigate further to find it. Joan took a few shots of the display with her phone and walked back to her room. The next day Joan took a bus to the sheriff in town. She told the story of her discovery and asked if he had seen it. The policemen acted nonchalant and then Joan got out her cell phone to show them the photos. The sheriff took the phone and handed it back, saying the pictures of the gardens were great but nothing unusual.

Joan looked at the phone and indeed, no photos of the purple rose display were there. Embarrassed, Joan left their office and went back to the resort. That evening she went into the greenhouse again. The spectacle she saw the night before was gone. She returned to her room and read the information she acquired in the library. That’s when she realized the dilemma. The tenth anniversary date of the murder was the night before.
