Putting My Feet in the Dirt 27, and WATW 10-28-18

It always was a mysterious place to visit. It wasn’t that it was terribly small, but the intriguing stories we heard from people who’d been there. I’m not saying they always really entered the abode, being a thing of legend, but our curiosity drove us to it.

An ordinary Sunday afternoon, all the guys watching baseball since it was the World Series, so we ladies decided to gather at the cobweb cloaked coven, have a few drinks, and then investigate this tiny house.

We knew the consequences of the Alice spell, but it was almost Halloween and since our brooms were in the shop readying for the big night, it was something to do. We were witches after all, and it took quite a bit for us to be scared of anything. Of course there was that time old Hagatha was in the path of that water bucket, but I digress.

We approached the little house, pulled out our vials of the shrinking spell and walked in.

MLMM Saturday Mix 10-27-18

“More guests? Geez, Henry, we can’t afford this! When we talked of marriage, I never expected all this hoopla for the wedding!”

Henry groaned, “Melissa, I never guessed you wouldn’t want a big wedding. But I see the list has grown.” Henry looked at the list again. Perhaps it did need to be pared down a bit. There were lots of family invited and of course their co workers, neighbors, friends–Henry looked back at Melissa.

“Uh, this is sort of over the top. When we first started planning it didn’t seem to be too many.”

“Henry, remember when you first asked me to marry you?”

“Of course!”

“We were camping, and that night in the tent we cuddled together? We decided it was just the two of us that mattered?”

“Well, I guess so. So no big wedding?”

“Let’s elope!”

Word of the Day: Angst

Well I don’t know about you, but I think the formerly known United States of America could not be described in that manner since 2016 and slightly before. In my estimation, the formerly fairly pleasant lifestyle we’ve led here in our shelter of the USA is full of angst. How our immediate and future situation here and in the world changes almost daily is making everyone nervous to a certain degree. And we all know why. Unification is not on his agenda.

Angst – Word of the Day Challenge

Word of the Day: Mephistophelian

I continue Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt Arrow story with part two here:

That is when I looked up and saw him. He had put his hand on mine as I touched the book on display. I looked at his face for a second and another chill, but this time it filled my whole being. I quickly withdrew my hand from the leather tome with the inscribed arrow and he stepped back, almost surprised.

Again I looked at him, this supposed bookstore clerk. My curiosity piqued as I realized his costumed figure. I couldn’t dismiss the idea I had entered the magical world of a different era. I was so mesmerized by his appearance I stumbled on my words.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean any harm, it just drew my attention. I seemed to be drawn straight to the book as soon as I entered the shop. I. . .I’m looking for a gift for my friend. She loves historical romance.”

The man turned to the shelves behind him and selected a different book, “Rebecca”. This might be a better choice and handed me the book. Suddenly his face changed from the mephistophelian figure head to a softer look and I felt compelled to know more about this strange man.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt #78

A casual meeting was all. I was shopping, looking for a special gift for my friend. Helen was an avid reader, especially loved romantic history, so it was not easy to find. I happened to hear of a special bookstore in town and was standing outside this day.

As I entered the building, I felt the nuance of old books, and romance. I can’t really explain, it just washed over me as soon as I stepped in the door. The jangle of the door warning bells woke me up from this enjoyable stupor and I walked in.

It was then I saw it–leather bound tome with an arrow symbol on the cover. As I touched it, a shiver ran up my arm. “Not this one” a voice warned. I looked up, and I saw him.

1:35AM and the third WS game just ended

Game three of the World Series – I watched til the tragic end, with LA winning. I should take heart, though, we (Boston) are still head 2-1 but dang, I was so hoping for a third win in a row. I must say Muncy getting the last score was irritating since he had cheated us out of a definite strike called a ball.

It was the longest game in World Series history, 18 innings and lasting almost 8 hours. I pity you in the east if you stayed up til the end. My grandson gave up at midnight!

I have no love for LA players but Muncy, Turner and Machado, let’s just say. . .well, let’s not.

I have fresh respect for pitchers and catchers. I fear Nunez will need medical leave after tonight. That poor guy spent a lot of time flat out in the dirt.

All in all I think watchers of the series this year are getting their money’s worth.

Who are you rooting for?

SoCS 10-27-18

Bone is one of those words that started out meaning one thing and has ?evolved? into many more. Its usual meaning is anything from 206-+ parts of a skeleton, connected to hold up your bodily form, or hard substance like ivory.

Tickling the bones could mean playing keys on a piano or slapping sticks together, rolling – throwing dice in a game, boning a fish, or the basics of a building, work of art, or writing. Then there’s the more risqué versions which I’ll not write here.

When I was a child we used to dance to a song named “Ain’t no sin to take off your skin and dance around in your bones” while my dad played the banjo. I couldn’t find a short version on YouTube. Have a great weekend, and dance around in your bones☺️

The Haunted Wordsmith 3TC

(birthmark, raccoon, charm)

It was just one of those days. You know the ones, waiting in line at the grocery, ignoring all the stares from the other customers in the queue. It no longer bothers me, it’s me, who I am, how I was born, so deal with it!

Being thirty-five, a loner, and enjoying income as a grip backstage at the Rocky Horror Picture Show, I don’t expect much more out of life. The raccoon shaped birthmark on my face caused limited expectations as a child. Throughout my adult life I was only a curiosity to women I tried to date, thinking possibly they would see me, not just my appearance.

When watching the RHPS one evening, I was stopped on the way out by one of the actors. My birthmark was the charm that enabled me to finally be accepted.

FFfAW #188 – Livin’ the Dream

Hello! Isn’t this great? Most fish never have the opportunity to be in a perfectly clean, beautiful environment like this one. Even goldfish might reside in a special manufactured pond, but then they’re outside in the weather.

Sitting here on the shelf, my bowl is kept at a perfect temperature and no annoying insects to bother. And look at the treasure chest feature! This is especially appealing to the younger generation, reading stories of pirates and treasure islands.

I’d better swim up to the surface, it’s about feeding time. There’s always plenty to go around, just another bonus, living in a bowl.
