Tale Weaver – The Moon

There it was, menacing look to it, he thought. Peeking out from those clouds, hiding your light, but keeping an eye on us, nevertheless. Something strange about a peeking moon, just giving you enough shine to make everything seem eerie, as if tempting odd behavior and mystical creatures out of their hiding places.

He slowly, carefully put the garbage sack in the bin. Watching over his shoulder, he was expecting something to jump out and frighten him. He tried to shrug off this feeling of trepidation. Something weird is going to happen tonight, I can feel it; as his thoughts compelled him, he turned to survey the neighborhood. Nothing moving, well nothing visible, he chuckled. It was a nervous reaction to his own fear.

Evil moon, you’re not getting the best of me! He hurriedly went back into the safety of his home and drew the curtains.

A to Z Challenge – R for Reality

I actually hate this word. It started out as your regular garden variety word, along with real, imagine, dream, fantasy, wish, you know, all the ones I like to use. Then along came life to ruin it all, confusing me with facts, another f word I don’t like.

There I was happily living my life, a great one, good job that was also fun, nice home, friends, neighbors, in good shape physically. Then I started hemorrhaging on the way to work, found out I had Uterine Cancer and had a complete hysterectomy. It wasn’t too bad, I was forty-nine and expected the dreaded “change” soon anyway.

Life improves, moved close to my daughter and grandkids which was a real dream of mine. Then in rolls Esophagus Cancer in my husband. I knew there was only a ten percent chance of survival since my brother in law died of it twenty years before. Yes, no changes in survival rate for this horrid disease. So reality struck again, harder this time, four years ago.

Okay, everyone surviving the loss of our most important family member, but reality wasn’t done with me yet. We all moved to Wyoming. Shortly after, I had an ordinary checkup and found I had Bladder Cancer, resulting in losing the bladder and being fitted with a delightful attachment, the bag. The urostomy is something you have to get used to. Picture a big raspberry on your abdomen…that’s what it looks like. Of course it’s covered by a bag and there are all types of available cottony material items to cover that. My favorite which I don’t have, by the way, has “f— this” written on it. I thought that was hilarious when perusing the catalog.

So I started a blog to help others in my situation see some humor in this. And there is plenty of it once you get over the, oh my god stage. But there it is, reality again. So deal with it, right? After two years I’ve only received one question about having the urostomy. It’s weird.

I have to add that meeting everyone here on WP is a part of reality I’m very grateful for. It’s taken me out of myself, possibly too much at times? 😳😂

Thank you for that!💓

I see this woman has the right idea,

Seems to have all the right gear

Except for shoes
For body heat to lose
It doesn’t make sense with jacket and hat
Feet with no shoes, what’s up with that?
Those bared feet
Is she trying to look “neat”?
A true outdoor person knows
You lose heat through fingers and toes
Sit by the fire
All you desire
But socks and shoes will keep you warm
Hiking boots usually the norm
For this mountainous atmosphere
It’s an important part of your gear.
I guess everyone knows their own taste
Maybe she just stupidly packed in haste.

Flash Fiction for the PP- 17

He was exhausted. Traveling all day, it was time to rest. He enjoyed the oceanside, always seemed to be a changing view. The fresh salt air was rejuvenating, acting as an inspiration to go on even when tired. The sun was lowering, it was time to find a camping spot.

Jack travelled light, with only a backpack to carry the sum of his present life. He didn’t need much, a journal, two favorite paperbacks, dried fruit, nuts, jerky, flint, and a rain cover. A good knife and some strong twine to make a temporary shelter, and socks. Good dry socks were the most important thing for him. You have to take good care of your feet when walking for miles without end.

He started as soon as school was out. His destination unknown, he wanted an adventure before starting college in the fall. He also needed some alone time from his big family. Time to think, reflect on his life as it is now and hope to decide what road he should take in his college years.

Setting down his pack, he paused to look at the sunset. He took a deep breath as the ocean air soothed his mind.

Daily Prompt:  Fry

Ingredients always go awry

When chopping them up to make stir fry

Especially carrots, they seem to leap

Off the cutting board, trying to keep

Them cornered. Hey that’s an idea!

A board with edges to keep them near

My mind amazes

Goes through phases

Of incredible genius

It’s just plain keenness!

Happy Thursday😂

Three Line Tales-64- Glow

It was only a string of lights. The garden was beautiful in the evening, but the string of lights were like fireflies, resting on the wire. She was anticipating the question.

The glow of the tiny bulbs reflected in her eyes. She had dreamed of this moment. The garden, the scent of the gardenia, strong and sensual, all was perfect. She smoothed the flowered cotton frock. She hoped the strapless dress and her tanned skin would entice him.

He casually strolled over to her, not taking his eyes off his fiancé, at least he intended her to be, after tonight.

Fandango’s Flashback Friday

Blog Battlers – 4-19-17

“Geez, Lenny, is that all you got?” Joe looked at the handful of change and shook his head. “There’s no way he’ll do it for that!” Lenny looked down at his money and knew Joe was disappointed. That’s all he had in his piggy bank. His mom was going to be mad when she found out he had broken it.

“I know, Joe, but it’s all I have.” The two ten year old boys sat down on the bench outside of the five and dime and tried to think of how else they could get money in such a short time. Neither boy had a job, so they had to be resourceful.

“I’ve got it! Let’s go behind the butcher shop. Sometimes you can find bottles there.” The two were suddenly rejuvenated at the prospect of finding some redeemable items and hurried down the alley. “Cool!”

Indeed, behind the butcher shop where the employees took their breaks, the scavengers found three Coke bottles and two empty St Paulie Girl beer cans. Excitedly, they went further down the alleyway to find last night’s pizza parlor items hadn’t been cleared out yet, and retrieved as much as they could hold. After counting up their treasure, including Lenny’s piggy bank stash,b they had accumulated nearly five dollars. “Wow!” exclaimed Lenny, ” you think this is enough?”

Joe looked skeptical, but didn’t want to act disappointed in front of his best friend. He and Lenny and their families had been friends it seemed like forever. Lenny’s older sister was the reason for this venture. The school dance was coming up and Lily was not invited yet. Being Lenny’s big sister at age thirteen, she had her heart set on being asked by “smooth Sam”. That’s what all the girls called him. He was an older man of fourteen, slick-backed black hair, blue eyes, and the envy of all the other “still in the awkward stage” boys his age. He sported a white t-shirt, bluejeans, and black Converse high tops, the epitome of every girl’s dream.

The boys decided they were going to make her dream come true by pleading with Sam to ask Lily to the dance. The money was in case he said no. They loved Lily. She was the kind of big sister everyone wants. When she was babysitting, she let the boys watch horror movies on TV, popped popcorn and even let them make root beer floats. They even got to stay up an hour later than mom said. They wanted to do something nice for her, too, so Lenny came up with the plan.

The next day was the day of the dance. Nearly desperate, the boys decided to confront Sam outside before school. Lily had gone in early so they knew they wouldn’t be discovered asking Sam. They were nervous thinking of the meeting. They didn’t even know if he’d stop when they asked to speak to him. After all he was an eighth grader and they were just fourth graders. The unwritten rule is that older kids are off limits on the playground.

Getting more nervous by the minute, and knowing the bell was going to ring at any time, they were suddenly relieved to see Sam coming up the walk with his friends. Lenny knew it was now or never, and stepped out into Sam’s way. “Sam?”

Sam was a good kid, and answered, “what’s up, little buddy?”

Lenny motioned for Sam to come near to him and Joe. Joe was so nervous he was speechless. Lenny persevered and stuttered his request. Sam just smiled. He would have laughed out loud, but he wasn’t that type of guy. He had been ten once. Listening, his smile widened. “Sure, I can do that. I think she’s pretty cute anyway.”

Lenny was so relieved he almost passed out. Joe was still in shock. They had just talked to the coolest guy in eighth grade and he WAS cool.

That evening, Lily was extremely excited to be going to the dance. Her dad was waiting patiently as his wife put the finishing touches on Lily’s hair. “Mom, I just can’t believe he asked me today! I didn’t think anyone was going to ask me. But, mom, Sam, all the girls think he’s dreamy!”

Lenny just smiled and said nothing. He was very pleased with himself. He wanted her to be happy and she was. Lenny’s dad pulled the car around and as Lily got into the front seat she winked and smiled at Lenny. Success, he thought to himself. He ran next door to tell Joe their plan worked. Now the rest was up to Sam.

As Lenny got ready for bed, he noticed his jean pocket was full of coins. He and Joe had forgotten to give Sam the money. They had also forgotten to offer it to him. Wow, he thought, Sam really was a nice guy.
