Daily Prompt:  Exquisite

In Colorado there’s a place you must visit

Up in the mountains, it’s just exquisite!

The only way to get there is a ride in a jeep

Of course that doesn’t always come cheap.

But an excellent driver is what you need

The trails are rocky, you must take heed

The trails are steep, some on a ledge

Experienced drivers keep clear of the edge.

This trip will give you views worth a paint

A long look down might make you faint.

But wonders abound up in these heights

Flowers, and animals, oh, such sights.

I recommend when you take this trip

Be cautious and careful not to slip

There are no guardrails or barriers to use

You wouldn’t like a fast downward cruise

The beauty you see is well worth the time

The Colorado mountains are truly sublime.

Picture Prompt-37

“My knees are killing me, Dave…..how much longer?”
“Just a bit longer, darling…..lick your lips again, dear.”
“It’s this new lipstick they used, it’s too dry. My back is hurting. Who’s idea was this stick?  It’s supposed to be a spear!  Another minute and I’m done with this pose!”
She awkwardly stood up, as her knees almost buckled. She thought that this new photographer’s idea of a princess was way off. Lipstick and eye makeup? Well, the money’s good. If my body holds out I’ll be able to buy that new coat in the Macy’s window.
“Okay, darling, just one more take.”

Picture Prompt-4317

“How come he’s just standing there?”  She was more than aggravated at her husband.  He had been lagging behind ever since they started this tour, and now he’s holding up the whole group.  She lost patience and yelled, “Joe!  Get over here!  Everybody’s waiting for you!”

Unknown to his wife, Joe was in a panic.  He did the unthinkable, looked down.  His legs were shaking.  He couldn’t move.  He was so scared he couldn’t even reach out to the side railing.  Joe was frozen in that spot.

“Joe!  Get over here!  They’re going to go ahead without us!”  She really didn’t care that Joe was stuck there.  Didn’t care and didn’t even want to know.  She thought this trip would bring them back together.  Her visions of camping out, sleeping in a tent made for two, romantic evenings by the warm fire, all of these things were her expectations as she planned the trip.

Joe wasn’t so romantically inclined, and thought the whole idea was a waste of money.  Give him a comfortable hotel room, room service, and a pool.  That was his idea of a vacation.  Meanwhile he was glued to the center of a moving, uneven bridge if you can even describe it as such.  His feet simply would not move forward or back.  He couldn’t help but look down, and felt woozy.  He could faintly hear someone yelling but his ears were drumming in his head.  He started to sway forward and thankfully grabbed the rail.  Joe thought he couldn’t make it, he’d just fall down into that gorge.

The guide finally took notice of what was happening.  Joe’s wife was going on and on about her husband and how he wasn’t listening.  The guide almost immediately felt sorry for Joe.  He’d seen the couple’s actions and reactions and didn’t think there was a lot of love there, at least not anymore.  The guide cautiously, carefully and slowly made his way back down the bridge to Joe.  He’d seen this before, this paralyzingly fear.  He started to talk softly to Joe, calming him, reassuring Joe that he would lead him to safety.

To everyone’s surprise, most of all Joe’s, his wife ran over and hugged him.  She had tears in her eyes and she held Joe’s face in her hands.  “I’m so sorry, Joe.  I didn’t realize how frightening that was for you.  I’m sorry.  So glad you’re safe.  I love you.”

Picture Prompt-35

“We’ve got him, sir.  Yes, he’s running down the middle of the highway, hard to miss in that orange jacket.  We’ve got him in our headlights, he’s not getting away this time.”

“Good, pick him up and bring him in.”

Jack was running as fast as he could, but they were going to get him.  Maybe he should dart to the side and into the woods.  He couldn’t really see along the side, only the cement barrier.  “Why haven’t they stopped to get me”, he thought.  “I can’t keep running.”

The police car came up closer behind Jack, and Jack stopped running.  They put handcuffs on him and were about to put him inside the car, when they both fell to the ground.  They were immobilized for a few minutes and Jack reached down, got the key, and unlocked the cuffs.

Jack was wondering if this would happen.  It happened before, and that’s why they were arresting him.  Earlier in the day he was getting lunch at the local diner.  Since he was just passing through town, he had asked around to find some place for good food.  They recommended the diner.  The waitress at the counter took a shine to him and offered a free piece of pie after his meal.  When she handed him the plate, their hands touched, and she suddenly fell faint.  Jack was shocked, as were the other patrons.  He looked around, people started to stand up and Jack was frightened of what they might do.  He turned and ran out of the diner and kept running until the police stopped him.

He had no idea how this happened.  But now it happened again.  He had to get away.  He jumped into the police car and drove away as fast as he could.  There was only one place he wanted to go.

He had left the institute a week ago.  Escaped was more like it.  They had been studying him for a while.  Studying him included excruciating tests, making him dizzy, weak and disoriented.  He hated being kept against his will.  The tests involved were done by scientists and “doctors”.  They wanted information about his “touch”.

He’d only had these spells since he came back from Tibet.  He and his college friends decided to research some of the religions they had been studying and this trip was a bonus for the course.  After they arrived, they visited a temple that proved to be more interesting than they imagined.  When they first entered they were surprised to see monks actually levitating.  They had read of this, but couldn’t believe it until they saw it with their own eyes.  Naturally they wanted to investigate and learn how this was done.

Young and adventurous, their curiosity served as an override to caution. Jack was the first to have a one on one session with the leader of the temple.  Explaining himself and being open minded, he was easily led by the master.  Jack didn’t realize how powerful the sessions were until back in the states, he accidentally bumped a stranger on the bus.  He offered a hand to help and the person fell unconscious.  It was only temporary, but this happened a few times.  Luckily it didn’t inflict permanent damage, as far as he knew.  But he didn’t know everything.  The sessions with the master were secret and Jack didn’t realize what happened in all of them.  It was as if he was in some type of trance.

Jack was careful after this happened the first times.  That’s why he quit school and traveled, not wanting any permanent connections.  Apparently he was the only one affected by the sessions, but he didn’t really want to know.  He just knew he had to keep moving, only stopping to work enough for meals.  He didn’t need much, and he couldn’t make any connections with others.  He had no idea if this curse would last.

Traveling in the police car was not the way to stay hidden, so a few miles up the highway he ditched it and started walking again.  His destination was a man he read about in an Internet cafe.  He wanted to know why he was like this and how to stop it. In the next town he would find another coffee shop to do more research.  He hoped the men who stopped him were okay.  He never wanted any of this.  He wondered why the master gave him this ability, this curse.  He hoped to find the answers soon.  He was tired of running.

Daily Prompt:Capable

Again, an immediate thought came to mind at this Prompt. Capable is a perfect word to describe my daughter. She has a college degree, was on the Dean’s list and I have never, ever, not been proud of her. As a teenager when a lot of mothers struggle with daughters, I did not have that problem. For the most part, it was great fun.

She’s been married since 1993, to a wonderful man that I dearly love also. I could not have chosen a better husband for her. They have five biological children, and three adopted children. She has been a stay-at-home mom for a while and then when we moved to Cheyenne she became a teacher at the local school. Now she is able to be home and do tutoring, which is the best of both worlds for her.  She always puts her family before herself.

The word capable is very descriptive of her. Her husband travels for his job, and she takes on the responsibility of the home and the children. That’s not to say that he’s not there. They talk every day, very often. I would say they are in constant contact and at this time of year with traveling being dangerous at times, it is especially true.  He is always there for personal “events” and weekend activities.

She maintains the house, cooks meals, and nurtures the children, of course. This is not an easy task with eight children. At the present time three girls are in college, two with full ride scholarships, and the oldest son is a firefighter/EMT in town. The other four are still in regular school. Moving here to Wyoming from Colorado doesn’t seem like much of a step, but it was a lifestyle change. She has adjusted to this and so have the children.

Adopting children is a great adventure, but it has a lot of challenges. She and her husband are meeting these challenges every day. Some days more than others. Every child is unique but also loved and loving each other as a family.

When my husband was dying in the hospital, she was the one who made trips back and forth to be with him since I couldn’t travel in the altitude.  This was a six-seven hour drive each way.  A terrible responsibility, but was her choice, and that is her, completely.

This is just a taste of what goes on every day. As you can imagine, a large, loving  family is a lot of work and it takes cooperation and consideration for each person. I’m very proud of my daughter, and she is extremely capable.

Thursday Photo Prompt

She never knew there were golden swans,

Perhaps her eyes were playing a trick on her.

The evening was very dark, and yet the swan glows.

Even the water still glows with his wake.

He must be a magical being, for in the day he is white like all the others.

This golden glow may not be seen by everyone.

Could I be the only one privy to his secret?

I reach to touch the sparkling wake

And my hand feels a strange sensation.

The swan turns back towards me and transforms.

I look down and my hand is wet with gold.

The swan is gliding toward me and changing as he nears.

I step back on the bank, unsure of what I’ve done.

He utters incredulous words as he stands in the form of a man.

“You have broken the spell.”

Picture Prompt-34 (language alert)

Man, that is a long ass way from here! It’s hot! No water, how am I ever going to make it there?

Maybe I’m thinking of this the wrong way, at least I survived. Those poor souls with me may have their shoes, but they’re dead. Saudi Safety Airlines, my ass!  I don’t know what happened, but by sounds of the engine sputtering, I’ll bet they ran out of gas….pretty ironic!

Should have taken a regular airline, but this was a free ticket!  I can hear my dad now, “you get what you pay for”.  Crashing here, so far from anything…..I don’t even see a camel! And none of those oasis trees, either.

I thought winning this prize would be a great way to meet people, see the desert….yeah, I see you, desert, pretty damn amazing all right… this sucks! My feet are burning, it’s too dry, and now I’ve seen you, I want to go home!

This is my life, this is how it is.  I finally think something great happens, and then THIS! I pictured a place like they had in that old movie, Casablanca. I thought I would meet some sultry women. And what do I get? Dumped in the friggin desert!
