100 Word Story – Dark Track

Will he find me here? Dare I go down there? I could get lost, but the path is there. Nothing to lose, I can’t stay where I am. He’ll be coming to look for me as soon as he knows I didn’t just go get laundry off the line.

It’s so dark, no flashlight, not even a match. Why did I choose this month to stop smoking?

My eyes are getting used to the darkness. Looks like there might be a light way up ahead. I hope they have a phone I can use. I’m calling the police this time!

Writing Prompt -8

On this subject I think it better to know when so you could gather your loved ones around you.  On the other hand, if you knew how the world was going to end, possibly you could prevent it.

Excerpt from:                       https://pplscrt79.wordpress.com/2017/01/11/breastcancer-not-just-a-womans-issue/

I only put some of his post here.  Please check out the whole blog post at the address above.

“I can understand if this were some rare ailment that we barely hear about. That would make sense that people would have to be made aware of it. But next to lung cancer, breast cancer is the second-leading killer of women in the United States.
The second-leading killer of women in the United States. That hurts to even think about.

Yet, many of us still need to be made “aware” of it?

MEN, this is mostly for many of you.
In terms of “awareness,” I think WE need to do a better job of helping the ladies out with this. I didn’t share my friend’s post earlier this morning looking for brownie points. I did so because I felt a responsibility to do so. We cannot treat this as a “woman’s issue.”
This affects ALL of us.
We ALL have women in our lives. That alone should contribute to us wanting to learn more and to encourage the women who mean the most to us to get checked out. To continue to perform those self-exams. To make breast health a priority.
But in order to do that, we must show them that it is a priority in OUR lives as well. Don’t leave them alone to fend for themselves when it comes to this. Women are not helpless by any means, but we have to show them that it means just as much to us as it does them. It should.

There have even been stories out there where breasts lumps have been caught (and thankfully treated), during sexual activity. Don’t laugh at that; that’s not meant to be a joke. Hey, I’m not trying to ruin your flow. But if you’re gettin’ on with the get on and you feel something that doesn’t feel right or if any doubt occurs in your mind, SPEAK UP. Please. Don’t be ashamed. As I just said, there are stories where this was the ONLY way this was caught. I know it’s hard (no pun intended) to stop once you get so far into it, but when you think about what could happen if you don’t speak up and it ends up being something. That should be enough to get you to say something.
Always better to check and not need to than to not check and…WISH. YOU. HAD.

In general, I don’t care much for the idea of “Men’s Health” and “Women’s Health.” I wish that health was a concern for EVERYONE. That means that “women’s health” is “OUR health” and vice versa.
Don’t get me wrong. I get the concept. They are separate like this to highlight the issues that mostly strike men OR women. But often times, I feel like each gender cares only about the issues of their own.

Whenever I hear about a disorder or disease of some kind, however rare it is, I look it up. Mainly because of my abnormal curiosity, but also because it may be something that strikes me or someone close to me. I can’t expect everyone to do like me on the rare stuff, but it’s sad to me that breast cancer isn’t something that more of us care about BEFORE it hits close to home.

I understand that not talking about it doesn’t mean that a person doesn’t care. I just think that we as men have to take the first step and let our ladies (figuratively, not possessively) know that they don’t have to fight this alone and this is not “us against them” (for lack of a more appropriate expression).
I fuss to my wife all the time about getting checkups and checking herself out. As she just turned 40 last year (I will pay for that later on), I worry about her even more, so I’m proud to be, as she lovingly calls me, a “nagging sitcom wife” (long story) to make sure she puts herself in the best position possible and is on top of this.

So guys, help me out here…when you see women talk about this, let’s give our support. Let’s share their posts. Let’s talk to them about it. Go to the women who may be in “perfect” health and you know…give them a friendly reminder to get checked out. To check themselves out.
Now, unless you are married or dating, DO NOT offer to “check them out” yourselves (SOMEBODY was thinking it). But in all seriousness, let them know we care and breast health is important to us also.

And remember…WE as men can get breast cancer also. Remember Rod Roddy of the “The Price is Right”? That is tragically how we lost him.”

Anything Wednesday – Makeup (Rant)

Makeup.  I’m not selling, promoting, or condoning the lack of, or use of, makeup.  I used to love makeup, tried all kinds, the new looks, etc.  I even revisited that love before Christmas when my granddaughter wanted me to advise her on buying some.  She has coloring similar to mine.  I found myself once again wanting to experiment with new colors.  I encouraged her to be bold with her own.  She has enormous blue eyes and now wearing glasses, she needs to play them up a bit more, imho.

She has allergies and like me her eyes water at a few things, so uses waterproof eye makeup.    I am allergic to a lot of brands even the ones supposedly allergy-free.  Years ago I had her same trouble, trying to find a color of makeup that covered, but looked natural.  It’s hard for those of us who have whiter or blacker skin to find the right formula, even if you’re not allergy prone.

Don’t laugh, well, okay, go ahead, as I reveal the fact that I was a beauty consultant eons ago when women were introduced to their “season of color.”  I am a redhead, so mine was Autumn.  But I digress, (yea, got to use it again!).  I asked her what she thought of trying a blue eyeliner.  Just recently I started using a tiny bit of light brown liquid eyeliner myself.  Pretty daring at my age, and no, I’m not one of those ladies with bright red rouge, etc…..I know you were thinking it!

She was reluctant at first, but needed encouragement to step out and try new things.  She just started college this August, so was on her own for the first time, about an hour-+ away from home.  Doesn’t sound like much but when you’re used to nine other family members around, it’s a big step.

Oh, the rant…..using liquid eyeliner accurately is an act of terror.  If you have swollen eyelids from, let’s face it, old age, yuck, or sleepless nights, or crying, applying this tiny feathered wand is a feat unrecognized as an Olympic event.  People, do you agree?  I say people because I have respect for men who, dressing as women, seem to have an uncanny ability to use makeup.  The fact of aging and makeup is a tough one.  As my youngest grandson in a matter-of-fact tone said to me, “you look firmer”!  Grandkids, you gotta love ’em.  But it’s true, it can with moisturizer, improve your look if you use a small amount.

So here’s to you with the steady hand, fingers and arms.  More power to you!  It’s a harmless way to express yourself, so go for it!

Who has perfect eyebrows like these??

Daily Prompt:  Cling

He was meeting her for the last time. He tried not answering her calls, her texts, and nothing worked. The more he tried to ignore her, she didn’t seem to get the hint he was done. He had to admit she was very attractive, and that’s what first drew him to her. They only had a few dates before he realized that attraction wouldn’t last.

Her apparent good looks were the start and finish of it. He found her constant touching, caressing, and clinging too much for him. Growing up in the institution, he wasn’t familiar with all this affection. Sure, he wanted to be loved, but on his terms.

The taxi arrived at the diner, and he stepped out, only to be attacked by her once more. “I’ve been waiting forever!” she squealed in that annoying voice.

“We need to talk.”

The Worst Job in Cheyenne

I believe the worst job you could have in Cheyenne is a trash collector, garbage man, refuse retriever, whatever is PC these days.  Tonight it’s not the neighbors that ruin sleep, it’s the wind.  Tomorrow at six a.m. the trucks arrive to pick up the trash bins.  This complex has quite a few, but they are always overloaded.  The trucks have those grippers that rise up, reach down and bring up the bin, dropping the contents into the large back of the truck.  Even with this convenience, there are people who have to police the area and leave it clean.

Imagine the night before pickup and the strong winds we get.  Put yourself in the place of one of the people, on a cold blustery morning, running after pieces of trash.  I just had an idea…..what if they utilized unwanted dogs from the pound to retrieve these blowing bits of trash?  The dogs would think it was play and the men would get a break.  The wind isn’t going to stop.  Overloading trash bins isn’t going to stop either.  I think my plan might work.  What do you think?
