Monday Media Late

ā€œFather Stuā€ on Netflix is rated R because of language but it is a very good story starring Mark Wahlberg.

ā€œStuart Ignatius Long (July 26, 1963 – June 9, 2014) was an American boxer and Catholic priest who developed a rare progressive muscle disorder. He was portrayed by Mark Wahlberg in the 2022 biopic, Father Stu.ā€

This week’s theme is HOME
Your three words today are:
ROOM
FAMILY
INTEREST

***

A home is not just a place to hang your hat, but a gallery to show you or your family’s interests. Most homes have a personal space or room that shows the occupants’ personality. In my case it’s the main living area.

1. Are you an early riser or late starter to the day? It all depends on what plans I have but usually awake with the sun.

2. Do you adopt Breakfast like a king, Lunch like a prince and Dine like a Pauper? I make a latte after I’m up and then eat a meal around three-five if I’m at home, but if I’m out with family it varies.

3. Do you have a sweet or savoury tooth? Unfortunately, both but lately it’s more savory.

4. Would you prefer a hot relaxing bath or a massage? Neither, I can’t get in and out of a tub and remembering so called massages on my back for PT that caused more pain, no thanks.

5. What has been the highlight of the past seven days for you? A lot going on in the fam right now, school dances, a wedding in less than a month and that’s just the beginning. Seeing my granddaughter all fancied up with her boyfriend and that fresh romantic tinge between them was probably the highlight.ā¤ļø

A lively tasty punch, she murmured
Using her finger as a stirrer
ā€œMadge’s Mannersā€ was only a book
Defiantly ignoring their blatant looks
She is the heiress after all
And their minds so very small
All greedy, weary relatives
Hoping for a generous give.

Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge

***

I don’t think I can take it

Certainly can’t fake it

Accosted by a maga

Don’t they even havea

Clue as I’m quiet, views I’m not sharing

Not topped by the red hat they are wearing

I don’t think I can take much more

I turn my back but it’s getting sore

Pelted by their lies and junk

It’s America, I used to thunk.

MLMM Wordle #288

***

Imagine if you will, there is a teenage boy, ready for Halloween, dressed as a pirate with a scarf wound around his forehead and a gold earring dangling from one ear. A huge fake sapphire necklace adorns his bare chest, hoping to sway his colleagues to join in his costume ruse as they all trudge on a footpath to the pavilion, each hoping to win the ā€œbest costumeā€ prize.

An abrupt sidestep by the boy as he confessed his parents didn’t know he was there. The old ā€œI’m sleeping over with a friendā€ tact had worked once again. Funny, he thought to himself that parents still fall for that.

The crowd was large and everyone was milling around showing off their costumes while volunteer judges drifted through the crowd making notes on their clipboards.

Joe thought even if he did win, he’d have to leave his pirate gear and the prize at Mike’s house, hoping he wouldn’t scarf down the treat basket or more on point, take advantage of Joe’s hoping-to-be-girlfriend who handed out the prizes.

The Sunday Whirl

Seemed a simple solution, that box of tiny pills, pills to make me normal, fit in, as my parents always wished I would. Their search to find a sweet answer, not accepting the truth, would be a game they could tolerate. My parents’ eyes and ears no longer wanted to know what I felt, how I was treated, supposedly thinking time would be their ally and I would grow out of it. Believe me when I say I did try to rattle my cage ā€œout of itā€ when I first realized I would be forever shunned by them. But I think now, the word queer or gay or bi is more accepted, hopefully saving lives as it is.
