Six Sentence Story

“My stomach is tied up in knots” he exclaimed, folding his hands over his midriff. “I don’t think we can afford it and my classes are going to increase this coming semester!”

“Don’t be such a worry wart, we’ll get by just like we do now. Marriage vows between us won’t change anything financially. Besides, I just found out this morning I received an additional grant that will help.”

“I don’t think it’s just finances, sweetheart…”

MLMM Saturday Mix

The ‘Double Take’ challenge focuses on
the use of homophones* to build your
writing piece. You have two sets of
homophones and you are challenged to
use all of them in your response – which
can be poetry or prose.
Our homophone sets this week are:
bold – brave
bowled – knocked over
and
cannon – big gun
canon – body of law

You may think your bold persona

Strutting your cannon of lies

But there’s still some among us who aren’t so easily bowled

The canons of law will be your demise that justice will uphold.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

Dancing the little two step, sliding back and forth
Makes me wonder if you ever tell the truth
A man’s worth his word, a quote I heard somewhere
Doesn’t seem to apply in today’s world everywhere
Say what you mean, mean what you say, and don’t renege, is big!

SoCS 9-17-22

I don’t know how “fun” it actually is when you hear a song and can’t stop humming it but this Lambchop unusual interpretation of the original Sisters of Mercy’s “Corrosion” is one of mine. Now that I’ve listened again, it’ll be on my mind track once more. When I hear certain words a song pops in my mind —I know, my brain is weird. It’s a ring around my mind that sets up a continual ring in my ear.

Enjoy your weekend!🥳

3TC – Graveyard

Pinterest

The crow sat atop the small tombstone, as usual talking incessantly about the afterlife to the only remaining creatures who could stand to listen, Chunky the squirrel and Chewy, the rabbit. Both must have been desperate for company as they sat there, seemingly mesmerized by Chatty the crow. They didn’t provide any feedback except for the occasional “uh huh”, indicating they were still listening.

The only slight spark came from behind another grave marker, an old gray crumbling one which was actually a ghost incognito. “I see you are philosophizing again, Chatty. Perhaps they’d like to hear from some who’s actually been there.”

Sijo Wednesday – Soar

It’s such a wonderful thing, watching your life as you soar

Seeing you conquer, what you’ve accomplished, and I am amazed

You’ve exceeded my dreams, maybe your own, too, or is there more to come?

Moonwashed Musings Weekly Prompt – Maaahhmm!

Free shipping! she touted
as she begged, even shouted
I need these shoes
pleading
while her mom was reading,
the news.
Quick glance at the shoes
mom said whatever
you choose,
not realizing then
she could never spend
such a huge amount
in their small bank account.
As her daughter kept whining
mom stopped reclining
ventured a look
at the shopping app nook.
Surprised and in awe
couldn’t believe what she saw
gave her daughter looks grim
so she went to him,
her father adored
the daughter scored
so did Jimmy Choo
as her dad bought the shoes.

Todays prompt: Write a poem using the words “depth” and “chemicals”

***

It was only through chemicals that Dr. Jansen thought he could achieve the level of deep investigation he needed. Previously trying LSD and other illegal drugs had barely scratched the surface. He believed that in order to reach the true depth of the meaning of life, he’d need to experiment with the newer cognitive enhancers.
