Daily Prompt: Bubble

I wanted it huge

You know, big!

But fate stepped in

And pulled a trick

I had the gum all squishy, nice

Along came Mike with bad advice

“Just roll your tongue around it, John

Then blow like the dickens, long and strong”

I should not have listened then, I fear

Now have bubble gum from ear to ear.

Time to Write 34

“I didn’t do it.” Tom looked at Mary beseechingly. He needed her to believe him, especially now. The way it happened, he couldn’t blame her for being suspicious, but he didn’t do anything wrong.

Tom needed to try harder than that she thought. “I trusted you, maybe I shouldn’t have”. She had tried to forget the past, but now it all came back.

Mary met Tom right after he had broken up with Joan, his friend of three years. She had been ill lately and Tom visited her when she needed him. Tom believed she might die, as she was very weak. He no longer loved her, but couldn’t refuse her asking to see him.

Tom was actually innocent, but Joan had other plans. When she knew Tom found happiness with someone new, she set out to destroy the relationship. Her plan was to fake illness, corral Tom and make Mary think he was unfaithful.

Her plan almost worked until Tom went by unexpectedly and found Joan acting perfectly healthy. After hearing her explanation, he was walking out when she grabbed and kissed him.

Unfortunately Mary saw it all, and accused Tom–to Joan’s delight. He tried to explain to Mary he didn’t do anything wrong. Seeing Joan standing there laughing, Mary realized what happened. “I believe you”.

Joan went back inside, slamming the door. Her plan failed when she realized they had what she never would.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 6

He was very sad and tearful

But she was never fearful

As he heard the fateful earful

The night of the rehearsal

Said in a manner sneerful

“The wedding is off.”

****

He at first was broken

From the words she had spoken

Sat on the church pew oaken

Holding her ring, his token

Rejected by his chosen

Sat and cried.

****

He had avoided all temptations

She piqued his imagination

Thought he’d risen to her station

But tonight her revelation

Had no crystal clear consolations

The man was devastated.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt 53

The blooms were hidden under snow

Their quiescent bulbs were resting

Among the soil and roots of trees

The daffodils were silent

Waiting to emerge in spring

Welcoming the suns warm rays

They move a bit, upward bound

To rise above a chilled ground

The layers cannot hold them long

Only till the robin’s song

Is heard, do they awake

Wanting more than bud to make

A long stem a requirement

To sprout and hold the bud

Pushing through the chilly soil

It’s almost reached its reward

Reaching, growing sun toward

One leaf, more, splay their arms

A yellow flower holds the charm

The daffodil has arrived.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 5

Today is Cinco de Mayo, and people are celebrating everywhere! Now don’t be surprised if your mouth or stomach starts morphing into magma if you partake of too many spicy treats during this holiday. The same goes for margaritas, you’ll only have yourself to blame while waiting for the bubbles of Alka Seltzer tablets to dissolve. Meanwhile, some beautiful images for the day:

SoCS 5-5-18

It’s a Letter for soccer, with all the added badges and pins displayed on a letter jacket. The letter jacket below is worn by my grandson who is graduating in two weeks. Yes, the S for South is upside down, since repaired.

I had fun helping students with high school letter jackets, rings, etc as a side job. When I worked in the old days–believe me, it’s changed a lot–in the jewelry department in a TX Wal-Mart, it was a small town. We had two high schools, fierce competitors, and we were allowed to make displays in the glass cases back then. It was my favorite activity. School colors draped under the available items and even a few petals, pompoms, etc was such fun to create. Sizing was important so the ring would last a while, but there were always the huge adhesive taped ones their girlfriends wore. There were few girls who bought a class ring. I bought my own in 1963, with an “emerald” stone and gold band since those were the school colors. I still have it.🐝

TMAT 5-18

Most people my age have had a few, not just one defining moment in their life, but here’s a great one!

It was my third child coming. We already had two beautiful sons. My parents were visiting to help out. All night I was in labor, morning came–my mom took one look and said “you’re having a baby today”. I called the doctor, he advised staying home. He was golfing. By afternoon I was crossing my legs, actual advice from the OB nurse saying my doctor wasn’t at the hospital. Finally, with my husband running behind the gurney, made it to the room where our daughter was born. I write about her and her family here, often. She’s my lifeline.

Three Line Tales 118

Oh, hi there! Good to see you, better to eat you, but that’s my lot in life now…being observed by every tasty bit of human you can imagine. I especially savor (drooling but you can’t tell) the little chubby ones that are perched on the human’s back in a harness, already caught.

Why do they continue to tempt me, weaving to and fro by my vision, even tapping annoyingly on the glass. Little do they know I am strong, could break through.

It’s not a bad life really, no hunting required, fresh food every day, clean unpolluted water, why complain?
