Putting My Feet in the Dirt 8

“How are you this evening?” She asked without looking.

“Same old, same old” Joe replied, tiredly. Why does she ask this every night?

Sandra thought, why does he always answer the same way? Maybe he’s just tired. Well I’m tired, too. “Did you get that special client to sign?”

Joe murmured “No, but I’ll see him again next week.” He turned into the bedroom and flopped on the bed, took off his shoes and laid back. There’s no chance I’m getting that client, no chance in hell. I am so tired of this job, my life, I don’t even care anymore. Joe sat up and loosened his tie, undressed from his suit into a sweater and jeans.

She was setting the table as she did every night at this time. “Dinners ready, coming?” Sandra placed the modest meal on the table. Maybe she should get a job too, help out a bit. But there were children to consider. They should have waited to have kids, they weren’t prepared. She sat at her end of the dining table.

Joe sank into his chair at the other end of the table. “So the kids ate early again? I hardly ever see them at dinner.” He missed the children and the fun times they used to have, discussing their day around the evening meal.

“It’s been a long day, they were squabbling, so I put them to bed early.” Sandra had come to her wit’s end by the time five o’clock came around, and Joe never came home before seven, so she fed them early. She thought it would be nice to have a quiet dinner with Joe, but he seemed too tired to care.

Joe and Sandra ate their meal in relative silence, each wanting to speak honestly, but instead, their conversation was saturated pleasantries.

May Writing Prompts

SYW May 7, 2018

In 1952, on this day, the concept of an integrated circuit was published by Geoffrey Dummer. What a name for someone who created the basis for all modern computers!

We had a few warm spring days, beautiful!

Below is a copy of ceenphotography.com‘s Share Your World post this week, and my answers to her always fun questions:

1. First I would make sure my family was “set” and then buy myself a cabin in the woods with wheelchair access! Yes, totally selfish I realize, but it’s only a dream.

2. You know this already, my family.

3. My ideal present would be good health for family and friends, even all of you in blogworld!

I’m such an open book here on my blog, you already know. Seeing my grandsons play, the senior’s team defeating an adversary after eight years of losses to them, his prom, looking smashing, seeing my oldest grandson, the firefighter, even though he was called away on an emergency after a few minutes together. This is LIFE, the BEST of it.

MLMM Wordle #195

I felt like an old piece of driftwood, a nene floating on the surf in abandon, waves clutching at the overused edges of my mind. Hawaii’s orange sunset glow didn’t touch the chill I felt, will always feel, with loss of her presence.

I tried to pose a confident swagger, but have no propinquity of that persona. I was trying to impress her of course, but that all failed as I walked nearer her. The bikini, barely there, only covering a small portion of well rounded breasts, and her skin, a smooth dark chocolate brown that made your mouth start to water. She was a vision of temptation and as I passed by, a scent of coconut oil emanated from her, furthering my appetite.

I would say I was quickly and completely mesmerized by her brief presence, almost bewitched. I made my way down to the sand and set up my blanket and chair, thermos of cold tea, and tried to do what I intended from the start–relax, forget all worldly things for a few days, and get myself sorted out. Of course that was never going to be accomplished now.

Her vision penetrated my mind as a sempiternal dream, escalating into obsession. I could not stop thinking about her, how it would be to envelop her in my arms and taste that chocolate skin. That evening I found myself searching the local establishments, desperate to see her again. I asked around, with no luck. After a fitful attempt at sleep I decided to peruse the boardwalk again, hoping to see her again, only this time, I would not just pass by.

It was Saturday and the walk was busier, crowded, but I did not give up. It was almost as if I was under a spell, I had to see her again. As I was about to take my gear back down to the beach, I caught a glimpse of her. She was walking towards me. I was frozen, unsure of what to do, how to approach her. I couldn’t just blurt out how I felt, how much I wanted her, to touch her, devour her. It didn’t occur to me that possibly she felt the attraction, that she might be looking for me, but she smiled when she saw me, and seemed to slow her pace. I put the gear down and walked unsteadily in her direction. I had no idea what I was going to say or do, but I was going to do something.

She was wearing a long multicolored scarf, covering her shoulders and flowing over those beautiful hidden parts under her bikini, and as she neared, it fell to the walk. I nearly lost my footing as I scooped it up. She turned to face me. Did she drop it on purpose? This is how a besotted mind works: she dropped it intentionally for a chance to stop and meet me.

My dreamed vision suddenly dimmed as she looked at me, crushing me with a scowl. “What do you think you’re doing? Give that back to me!” My imagined delight of meeting her dissolved into a salty puddle as she grabbed the scarf, turned and walked away. The chocolate left a bitter and sugarless taste in my mouth as I picked up my gear and walked down to the sand. Slumping into the beach chair, I motioned for the cabana boy to bring me a double.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 7

Hey Judy! This is really fun! Even Punky the pooch likes it. Look at all those fish!

Judy screams with delight as she spots an octopus.

It’s probably time to head back to shore, mom and dad might be worried.

Judy looks around, peering through the porthole, straining to get her bearings. I don’t know, Jim. Which way do we go?

Jim goes to look through the periscope. Nothing. He looks back at Judy. You had one thing. One thing to do: make sure the popsicle periscope was up and working. That’s all I asked of you.

I forgot they would melt in salt water! Sorry, Jim.

Luckily the parents of these two adventure seekers thought ahead. They attached a long line to their children’s submarine.

No Longer Fixable

Image: DeviantArt

〰〰

Why I try to mend this heart

There it is all apart

Pins and needles can’t repair

The heart you see just laying there.

It’s still attached, just to me

Because you left, chose to flee

I try hard not to give up

Hoping you’ll once again fill my cup

I think this time it’s finally over

When you said you’re but a rover.

I don’t think this fix will set

I’ll leave it here, hope to forget.

MLMM Sunday Writing Prompt 5-6-18

〰〰

It happened again.

Why I keep trying, just to keep failing, I don’t know.

This is the last time. . .

I know this because this is my heart.

Holding it here in my fist,

It has been mended many times but now stitching no longer works.

I am done.
