Rag Tag Prompt: Ragabash

This word describes how I’ve felt for the past twelve hours, like rubbish, however it does remind me of a great movie with Sissy Spacek from 1981 “The Raggedy Man”.

“It’s 1944 in the small town of Gregory, Texas. Divorcée Nita Longley has been brought into the town by the telephone company to work as its switchboard operator, a job which requires her to… See full summary »

Does anyone else have this problem?

image

Okay, never mind answering.  Whenever I ask that question, the answer is always “No!”  Last night I was sitting here minding my own business and tried to post something.  Niet,  nada, no can do, sweetie…..wifi was out.  I checked the router, unplugged, etc, you all know the routine, and Internet just kept blinking red.  I’ve decided that after ten o’clock when all is supposed to be quiet in apartment complex land, that without wifi I am dead in the water.  Why not use your cel phone, you ask politely?

Because my fairly new phone, okay I bought a refurbished one on Amazon, was dead.  I saw it going under so plugged it in and it just gave up the ghost.  So basically without either device I am stranded.  I have no recourse except to go across the hall and wake up neighbors if I need help.  Which let’s face it, would not work, unless I crawled over there…I am in a wc and the only reason I would really need help was if for some odd reason I fell and couldn’t get up, which I can’t.  Go ahead, take a respite from this blog and laugh!  I don’t mind.  I AM one of those “help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” people.  I hate to admit that, but it is true.

Back to the problem… I made two mistakes yesterday.  Not ordering a new cord and battery for my phone and two, clicking on “update” for WP.  I don’t seem to learn.  I am an old dog and I don’t like new tricks.  Now I have to go through someone else’s post to get to my site, until WP decides to accept me with a user name and password I’ve had for over a year. And yes, wifi came back on this morning at five.  Notice how all hell breaks loose on the weekend when no offices are open for assistance?  Well that’s been my experience.  Kids never get ill during the week, accidents never happen then either…right?

My family is out of town.  My daughter brought me an “old reliable” phone, not a smart phone, in case I need to call for help, and a different cord to charge my dead (smart phone – I use the term loosely, or is it the user that is not smart?) phone.  If all else fails I can use “old reliable” to call my grandson who’s always available. . .the oldest one, the firefighter.

One more thing, have you ever had problems trying to register or reregister any device on the net?  Thought not, it IS just me after all.  (Sigh)

I added the pretty bird so you’d at least have something nice to look at.

A Reflection On The Week

I couldn’t have said it better myself….

Tony Burgess's avatarThe Tony Burgess Blog

This has been a challenging week for the American community. Everything from children being separated from families to suicides to the political unrest in our country. My friends its easy to be discouraged and troubled. For many this is a time of being on the edge because they find themselves disenfranchised and there seems to be no solution. People are seeking justice, peace and most importantly love. Prayer is one solution, voting another, understanding yet another. This is going to be a long summer and who knows what’s next.

MLMM Tale Weaver 6-8-18

Neither man wanted to vacation in the country. Repairing the old cabin for vacation use was not their forte, but as husbands often do, acted to appease their wives. The cabin needed work, most of it could be done without expert carpentry, and the women thought it could be accomplished easily. As soon as the basic repairs were made it was the women who would clean and set up the household.

It was the fourth weekend when things came to a head. Joe and Harry were disagreeing about the way a door should be hung. Anyone who has attempted this task knows the frustration and pitfalls. After much heated discussion, Harry stomped off. Joe didn’t mind, preferred to do the job himself which was impossible for an inexperienced person.

He started to wonder if Harry was ever coming back, not that he really cared. Using all of his free weekend time with Harry on this project for what seemed an eternity, he’d begun to feel a little too close to his neighbor. Deciding he should probably see if Harry was all right, found him dangling by a root on the cliff. He told him to hang on and ran back to the cabin to retrieve a helpful tool.

Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction – Freaky Freddie

Did I read it right or fail to listen?

The Prompt this week is “man glisten”?

Brings only one thing to my head

Oiled body builder by name of Fred.

Fred took his body seriously

Mirrored image he deliriously

Gazed upon without remorse

Waiting for someone to endorse.

After every workout planned

Muscled arms down to his hands

Were scrutinized with eager eyes

No indentation was disguised.

Took pride in every single bump

Worked them to a healthy lump

Of tissue, vein and tendon there

Watching his exercise with care

Narcissism his constant friend

Was winning in the end.

June 7: Flash Fiction Challenge

MLMM First Line Friday

The video footage was grainy, but Taylor recognized them easily. He just shook his head in disappointment. After everything he had done, every extra bit of attention, reading the advice books, counselors, it had come to this. A total disregard for others, the instructor and respect for others’ property and well being.

Taylor was the new father of two 13 year old foster children, twin boys, abandoned by their parents at an early age. The boys had been in the state system since age seven. Taylor thought he could manage them, and decided to give them the unconditional love he thought was missing from their childhood. He enrolled them in local sports teams he thought they would enjoy, bought them trendy clothing, gave them cel phones and basically spoiled them in his home. He so enjoyed fatherhood, he seriously considered trying to adopt the boys. He was single and this might pose a problem, but he approached the boys about it. They were surprised, but eager to have what Taylor thought was a dream come true for them.

The boys were happy on the outside and seemed pretty normal so far, in Taylor’s eyes. As time went on he noticed small things but ignored their indications. It started with missing assignments in school, graduating to misbehaving in class, intimidation escalating to fights at free time, stealing food, and other behaviors that took Taylor by surprise. He decided counseling both at school and professionally might be the answer. The teenaged boys were getting bigger and Taylor had no assurances from these sessions things would change.

At one of the sport classes the boys were taking, the instructor videoed his sessions. It was one of these taped sessions that Taylor was watching now. The karate teacher was a large Korean man and very strict in his classes. He had spoken at length with Taylor and assured him his classes would show an improvement in the boys’ behavior. However, his attempts failed and after the unusual frustration of this teacher, Taylor was shown a video of the final class the boys were allowed to take.

Discouraged by all attempts to help the boys, Taylor decided to discontinue his foster parent decision. He tried in every way he knew how, to be the one to help the boys, but with no success. The twins did not react with remorse to his decision, in fact they showed no emotion whatsoever. They had been through this before. They did not seem to realize it was their behavior at fault and fared better in foster homes where they were one of many, not supervised closely, and counting down to when they could be out and on their own.

#writephoto – Remains

I told you it wouldn’t work.

The diet guru was a jerk

100 calories a day!

Now here forever do we lay

☠️☠️

When you asked I was too honest

Did not mean your heart’s demolish

Most everyone can pinch an inch

Didn’t mean to cause a flinch

☠️☠️

I have to say you did look fine

At first, only 100 dined

But then it just kept getting worse

The diet failed to be reversed

☠️☠️

If we heeded our conscious warnings

We wouldn’t hear our loved ones mourning

It’s not too bad under the heather

At least we’ll always be together

☠️☠️
