Putting My Feet in the Dirt 10

It was quite a gathering including a new member of the group, a self absorbed, slightly rancid, paranoid midget named Tiny. Tiny didn’t always appear so disheveled, but he had just gotten off the airplane from Hawaii, and didn’t have time to change. Tiny also thought his appearance would draw questions from his friends and was never deterred from relating his latest adventures. On this particular outing, he’d been a stuntman in a pseudo-documentary about the volcano eruption.

The rest of the guests including me, were dressed accordingly, casual, but clean. The entire group loved challenges and this party was a particularly challenging one. All of us broke into four different groups, each before four piles of leaves and the leader of each group held a paper clip. The object of the game was to be the first group to move all the leaves in their pile to a dumpster ten feet away, using only a paper clip. It was quite the challenging task!

I have to admit my team came in last, but a good time was had by all and then we just fizzled. Music started to play, refreshments served, and interesting conversations were held.

MLMM Saturday Mix 6-9-18

She was waiting for the mail, always a special treat. Unlike most “modern” correspondents, Lulu enjoyed the art of letter writing and found a few male companions who felt the same. There was quite a variety in her choices, some romantic, some adventurers, although most were just friends. So much can be expressed in handwriting. It is an ancient form of expression that cannot be compared to even a typed note and certainly not conveyed in a text.

One interesting man she corresponded with was from the United States, in the state of North Dakota. He lived far away from the bustle of life and was self sufficient. He had a vegetable garden, cows, chickens and fruit trees. He took pride in learning the culinary arts. Because he relied on the ingredients that were readily available to him, his experimenting was somewhat limited.

Lulu opened the latest missive from the man in North Dakota. In this letter he included his latest endeavor, a recipe for making moose mousse. Lulu couldn’t help but laugh with endearment, reading every word with a smile. She enjoyed the companionship she received through her correspondents, and was entertained by their adventures. The gentleman from North Dakota was no exception.

Sunday Photo Fiction 6-8-18 – Flirty Flamingo

My dear, you’re looking lovely today, so lithe, so slender, so……pink!

Why thank you Charles, I am very happy to see you, too.

Lucinda, may I ask you something?

Shyly, Lucinda blushes, turning a dark rose in color.

Lucinda, would you like to come to my nest? It’s so public here. I have some rare etchings you might like.

Oh, Charles, what are you thinking?

Honestly, Lucinda? I would love to spend the day with you, and I think you would enjoy my special preening techniques.

Lucinda bends low in embarrassment. Will there be snacks?

Oh, definitely, a large variety of carotenoids.

Well then, lead the way, dear Charles.

Time to Write

image

This is just what I need, quiet.  I don’t mind the soft whispers at all.  Compared to my noisy busy life, this is my sanctuary and so much more pleasant than  the usual traffic noise, horns honking, screeching of brakes, people yelling. . .even the compression of other people’s bodies against me when I’m just walking to the bus stop.  It’s humanity, hundreds and hundreds of people pushing, bumping, shoving you with never an “excuse me, so sorry,”or a pleasant greeting.  People, surrounding me at every moment.

Until.

I open the door to this haven, this quiet, this utopia of stillness, the library.  The scent of leather bound tomes, paper holding adventures that beg to be explored.  Even a bit of dust doesn’t deter me from seeking out unfamiliar books.  Writers, authors, all, that took the time and energy to compose a story or poem, or list facts of history, craft maps of foreign lands, or photographers who compiled albums of beautiful venues.

I am so grateful for their efforts.  I find respite within these walls.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 9

Sitting here admiring the sun

waiting for my charger to run

up the cel phone so I can use it

trying to be calm, not lose it

but look, here is the thing

sometimes life doesn’t ring

right, like waiting for a postage due

What’s beyond the ballyhoo?

Is it karma or is it fate

are you too soon or you too late

It seems you have no control

every plan’s attempt is foiled

Phone’s still only eighty percent

Guess I should stop writing this vent.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt 58

IMG_7703

I’ll start right off with pneumonia
Had it once and it was annoying
Couldn’t breathe, hospital stay
Since the shot, not another day
With this disease
Not breathing with ease
It really caused quite a panic!
Thought I was “going Titanic”
Going down, no space for air
The feeling can’t be compared
Was on oxygen at the time
Even that aid was not the chime
To help, relieve my chest
I’ll spare you all the rest
I’ll just say:

True pandemonium.
