The Secret Keeper #145

“Of course I’m not mad! I’ve made it perfectly clear all you have to do is tell me ahead of time! No, I’m not getting on your case. I’m not yelling, I’m merely raising my voice a little. Because! Because it seems no matter what I tell you, you don’t listen. . .just like now, you’re not even looking at me!”

Joe had turned away from his dad and stared at his food, one of his favorites but he was no longer hungry. He felt his dad was out of control. “It was no big deal, I just wanted to meet the guys for basketball at the park.” Joe got up to leave the table.

“Where do you think you’re going? You’re not excused. Sit down so we can talk about this. We have a problem and you ignoring me isn’t going to solve it.”

Joe sat back down but didn’t think his dad would listen to him. Lately his dad liked to be loud. Joe’s mind was in a muddle. How could his dad be so upset by this? All he wanted was to go out with the guys. Homework was done, chores finished, he thought he deserved a little time for fun.

Joe’s dad was thinking almost the same from a different perspective. He knew Joe was a great kid, never giving him any trouble. “I got so upset over nothing. Maybe he mentioned it and I don’t remember. I have had a really bad day. I shouldn’t be taking it out on Joe.”

Joe looked at his dad. His eyes were tired, in fact he always seemed tired lately. They didn’t have fun together anymore and Joe missed that. “Maybe I should just stay home, talk with him. I can play ball with the guys tomorrow”.

Both father and son looked at each other and started speaking at the same time, “I’m sorry”. . .and then smiles as they realized what was happening.

Weekly Writing Prompt #145

Rag Tag Community Daily Prompt: Atavism

Why is it the old recipes in your worn cookbook or recipe file seem to be the best? Are they truly the “comfort” food we all turn to when we are stressed, sick, or needing a return to the time when we were safely enclosed in a loving environment?

The atavism of turning to familiar feel-good food is universal. People just naturally feel more comfortable in familiar situations. Trying new things is an adventure we all need to do, but when the world starts closing in upsetting our normal routine, it’s good to return to a safe place.

One of my favorites:

Meet the Bloggers Prompt: Affinity

Sorry to say it’s an affinity

The love he had for divinity

White, gooey, always with nuts

The fudge that cavities love

In your teeth with so much sugar

Sickerly sweet in the cooker

He made a batch most every day

And ate it all, ’twas his way

Now Gummy, he was not wise

All that candy was his tooth’s demise

SYW – 6-11-18

Monday in the middle of June 2018! Who would have thought that I would be here spouting my opinions, my secrets, my hopes and dreams, my loves. . .right here on little ol’ WordPress? Certainly not me, but I have been doing this for two years and trying to keep my posts interesting and moderate. Once in a while I deviate to a rant, vent, writing out frustration so I don’t visit them on my family. Yup, folks, I usually let it all hang out here with you. So if you’re still reading, THANK YOU! πŸ’

But I digress….I love that phrase so if I ever have a chance to use it, even inappropriately, I do. It is time for Share Your World questions from ceenphotography.com and this week they are challenging, at least for me:

1. Who would be my imaginary friend? I think my mother. I would like to have her be a friend to talk with, and know how she handled herself in life, what she would think of the world today. When I was born she was forty, and then after, very busy in my childhood. Life on our dairy farm was idyllic for me as a child, but her role was a tough one. She cared for four of my grandparents, hung out washing, even in snow, ironed, cleaned, maintained a large garden, canned, cooked, baked, and that was every day. There was no electric washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, no convenience stores or groceries. It was all her efforts that we were privy to.

2. What decade would I think best? This is difficult because wonderful things happened in each. Having a great job, finding love, marriage, and two sons born in the sixties would have to be my first choice. Eighties the next because I was working a job I loved, three teenagers, and being healthy, and don’t forget the music! Seventies also had great moments, my daughter being born the high point, but also deaths in the family so it’s bittersweet. The nineties brought moving around, bad health for myself, but also my daughter’s marriage, grandchildren and was possibly the most rewarding. A very hard question, Cee.

3. After death how would I like to be remembered? That’s a no fair question for anyone my age and above. I could take what my grandkids say – the best grammie in the world – but I’m sure their other grandma is also told this. But for myself, I would hope I would be thought of as loyal, loving, honest and funny. The last one probably most prominent, because as you age you have to put that in the forefront to survive.

I am grateful for my grandson’s graduation and his like for his college destination. They visited Casper College last week and he’s looking forward to studying there. The high school counselor and coaches, teachers were instrumental in obtaining a scholarship for him and it is well deserved.

This week I’m revisiting doctors for an ongoing problem I hope to obtain relief for. And would it be too much to ask the universe to give T laryngitis for, let’s say, the next three years? Oh well, thought I might as well ask.

MLMM Wordle 200

She opened the box, her heart quickening as she admired the enhanced garnet, the tangible proof of his love. She was not alien to gifts, but this of course had special meaning. When she chose to wear it, it would not be a feeling of possession she felt, but of possibility.

Franklin was also her chosen one. . .she could now be free, no longer be objurgated by her father. Marie had waited for the dissolution of commitment as his obsession, not as a loving father, but as a receptacle for his outrage on the world.

The only doubts she had were if she could revert to a loving, giving partner with Franklin after the influence of her father’s abuse.

Marie placed the ring on her finger, looking at Franklin, mustered her most loving expression and said yes.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 11

Borrowing a phrase from a favorite movie, “Cool Hand Luke”–what we have here is a failure to communicate–at least in a proper, respectful manner. We have a loud mouthed, unpredictable in any good way, leader who prefers using snide remarks, rude comments, racial slurs, misogynistic behavior, bullying, and social media to convey information supplied to him from what must be a very small brain.

Where are the ethereal evolutions that should present themselves in a leader of the free world? I apologize to our neighbors, Canada and Mexico and the EU. What our leader/ruler/king reports is not how I feel, or many others who are also aghast at his behavior.

I wake every day to be flooded with his disparaging remarks, his total lack of empathy or concern for the citizens of the USA and none for any of those outside our shores, including Puerto Rico.

I am disgusted, discouraged and disappointed in our president. I think some of you may be angry or surprised, but people, I am sick of it. I read a post today about discipline. Our leader needs to be disciplined. Why isn’t this happening? Is it money, payoffs, bribery, collusion? Or is it all of these?

We need to speak up and say “I’m not going to take it anymore”.

Ronovanwrites Haiku Poetry Challenge 205

An oxymoron

With the words tyrant and hope

We have the tyrant

With no solutions in sight

How can there be any hope

A tanka this discouraging week, Ronovan.

πŸ™πŸ™

Or the Haiku:

Tyrants please themselves

Leaving little left but hope

The future is dim
