FOWC: Probability

The probability of my writing a blog response to a challenge is ninety-nine percent.
The probability of the challenger reading it is about five percent.
The probability of it being read by my followers is about two percent.
The probability of it being liked by all of my followers is zero percent.
The probability of my blog posts being actually read and commented on is minus zero percent.
As long as you let probabilities rule your life in blogging, worrying over stats, contemplating whether you should or shouldn’t do this or that, blogging becomes a job, not a fun activity.
Word of the Day Challenge: Patterns
Joe rolled out of bed, brushed his teeth, combed his hair and dressed. Walking into the kitchen he popped two slices of bread into the toaster and made two poached eggs. Filling his orange juice glass a second time, he smacked his lips on the tangy liquid. Homemade strawberry jam from the freezer, and he was all set to face another day at his humdrum job at the factory. He packed his lunch everyday, consisting of three sandwiches on white bread: peanut butter, cheese and bologna. An apple for dessert and a thermos of coffee completed his fare and he climbed into his 1967 VW beetle and drove to work.

Mike pushed the alarm for the second time, feeling rather sick after a long night at the club, dancing, drinking, and flirting. The flirting usually led to a longer night of enjoyment, but there was always that pesky alarm the next day. Mike dragged himself into the shower, shaved, applied too much cologne and donned one of his navy ensembles. Polished shoes always finished the look and he was ready for the day. Stopping by Starbucks for the “usual” triple shot expresso with skim milk and a cranberry scone to be eaten as lunch, Mike returned to his bright red Alfa Romeo and drove to his company on Wall Street.

MLMM Wordle #208

Being a reasonable person with an ordinary, if there is such a thing, psyche, I rarely let everyday occurrences rub me the wrong way. Life is short and constantly trying to persuade yourself it’s a bowl of cherries is futile. I am no one’s clay pigeon to be destroyed in a single shot by a supposedly well rehearsed purveyor of vitiated information.
Yesterday I rose from my sleep, prepared myself to greet the public and set out for the mailbox. Rarely do I receive anything except pleas for money from charities, some newspaper ads and the occasional bill. Most of my bills are paid through EFTs/ electronic fund transfers.
The monstrosity of Medicare, Social Security, additional needed coverage in case you have a hospital stay, AARP, etc are all a huge part of my income drain. I have used them all and have been well for the past five years, but the payments steadily increase. It makes me extremely frustrated. I would take a long dive off a rooftop, if I could get up there, if I had an elevator, and if I didn’t have loved ones. Sometimes I see people on the street and I think, one missed payment and there I’d be.
The mail this day contained a letter warning me my health coverage was going under because of missed payments. I checked my bank account, payments came out automatically, as always, so this was false. I made the mistake of calling to tell them that and after being on hold for three different people and over an hour of complete frustration, I finally said, if you record these calls, how come your inefficiency hasn’t been discovered? Having a mostly hidden temper, I just hung up.
P.S. I did respond to the letter, of course after I thought about it and retrieved it from the trash. I asked my daughter if she thought it would be inappropriate to just scribble two words over their typing, but for some reason, she discouraged it. 😂😳🙄😂
This is not Flash Fiction, dear MLMM.

MLMM Photo Challenge #228

The two seasoned detectives enter the crime scene, and upon seeing the suspect, Joe spoke to his underling in a low voice, “this gives “kitty” a whole new meaning”. The woman-turned-cat sat in the chair with her knees up in the darkened room, quietly smoking a cigarette. Joe gave his partner a lascivious smile and proceeded to the body. The woman in question seemed unmoved, only taking long draws from the cigarette.
Detective Friday leaned over the now blood soaked corpse, noticing deep scratches over the face and torso. Mike seemed to be less interested in the body, having difficulty taking his sight from the cat’s eyes. “Ma’am, I need to read you your rights. . .”
Slowly the woman puts down her legs and as Joe turns on the lamp to better see the body, he hears a muffled scream. Joe looks across the room and finds his partner slumped next to the empty chair.
The only evidence found at the double murder scene was a few hairs of a black cat.

The Secret Keeper #156

I should never have pursued him. We should have “passed like two ships in the night”, as the saying goes. All around us the cold icy waters of our lives flowed and we were just drifting, alone in the darkness of our own worlds. Staying the course, staying free from the curse I now know as love, would have been the best choice. I never seem to make the right choice.
It wasn’t complicated; two people with too many unmet needs, just passing. The mistake was mine. I felt I had nothing to lose, so stopped and made a connection. Never knowing fully or even really caring if it was unwise, I sought the journey. I always hoped for a happy ending.
The initial needs met, the laughter and wit exhausted, it ended, as all desperate love affairs do. The meetings started to wane, the laughter grew a bit forced and the passion ebbed. I should have known better. I took a chance. I lost.
Ragtag Community Prompt: Coddiwomple
How can anyone resist such an interesting word?
**

CODDIWOMPLE JOURNEY
His outing cut short
As he exclaimed this retort
To his mother who scolded
“Come back as you’re tolded”
“My tricycle’s wobbly
I’ll fall, probly”!
And that’s just what he did
With two knees skid.
**
A slight bit of poetic license used.
