Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt #75

She never liked enclosed places. Being claustrophobic, she wasn’t looking forward to training for submarine tours. Some classmates were very excited, but the thought of being down under the sea, submerged into unknown depths was making the hair stand up on her neck.

San Diego tour guides were trained in all types of water vehicles at the parks, and the last tour guide training was to be in a mini sub. Joining the group stepping in, wondered how long she could hold her breath if needed.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 7

It’s rather chilly

Think I need to warm

Coffee didn’t do it

Maybe I will swarm

Some cloudy concoctions

Sweet and white

With hot chocolate

Making it right

Or maybe make a creme brûlée

Not like I have it everyday

But Sundays I’m always alone

Unless there’s a Bronco game shown

Then the other ladies and I

Might go shopping, spend a dime

But today is cold, prefer to stay inside

Have a warm sweater around me tied

Soup may also be had

Have only canned, that’s too bad

Prefer the homemade kind

So guess I’m in a bind

A grilled cheese will have to do

I’m warming now, how about you?

October Writing Prompts

Movie Monday

This is a violent movie, no question. However, it shows the talents of many actors. It deserves every MA rating, R rating. But it is fun to watch the acting talents of Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Wahlberg, Jack Nicholson, and others we now watch all the time. Made in 2006, “The Departed” – Martin Scorsese, need I say more?

Haunted Wordsmith Challenge – Mirror of Truth

Not bad, he thought to himself as he pushed his stomach in on his profile. I just have to remember to take a breath when no one’s looking. He turned this way and that, examining his outfit. Boots polished nicely, vest freshly pressed. Impeccable white starched shirt buttoned to the collar and topped off with a black string tie of the latest fashion.

Jack was now ready to entice young ladies at the dance. He hoped the younger ones would take a liking to him since he didn’t have much luck with the older regular attendees. His reputation for being a “Wham bam, thank you Ma’am” guy had been on the lips of many. It never seemed to stop him, though. His idea of a date left most women wanting. . .for everything.

Smoothing his dyed black hair back with a bit more Royal Crown hairdressing pomade, Jack thought his look complete. It was at this last moment he spied something on his face. What was that? A moustache? He didn’t have a moustache! He looked closer. He felt his face and sure enough, there was something there! He peered into the mirror even closer. Surely his eyes were deceiving him. Jack thought of himself as impressively groomed and didn’t care for facial hair. He again fingered the bit of hair on his upper lip, and it seemed to be growing quickly. What matter of trick is this, he thought?

The trick was on Jack. He couldn’t help himself fingering the new addition over and over. A perfectly greased black curled “Snidely Whiplash” moustache was permanently fixed to his face from that moment on. It served as a warning of sorts to any unsuspecting young women he might take an interest in.

MLMM Saturday Mix 10-6-18

(handle, light, bag,wind,man)

The gentleman shifted in his seat. The train was exceptionally bumpy today. His suitcase toppled off the seat and onto the treaded platform. A stiff breeze rushed in the window. “I think the weather is making this trip more unpleasant than usual” he said to the young lady across from him.

Miss Blake was going to ignore the man but since his case had fallen at her feet, she had no choice but to engage him. “Let me help you” as she grabbed the braided rope handgrip placing it back on the seat beside him.

“Thank you, Miss. May I ask, what is your travel destination?”

“Of course. I’m going to see the capital. There is a harvest festival in the area I plan on attending.”

“Oh, my. . .my destination as well! An Octoberfest you say? I’m going to the capital for business, but the festival sounds inviting.” He held her eyes for a second, hoping his attempt at joining her would be accepted.

“Well then, would you care to meet there? They have wonderful warm cider. Perhaps you could join me?” He noticed a sparkle in her eyes as she offered the invitation.

“Delighted! Here’s my number, will you text me when and where?”

“Yes.” She took the number and the train came to a stop. Both passengers left the car with a much brighter attitude than they had at the beginning of their trip.

MLMM Photo Challenge #232

I try to capture you

Your every detail sketched

Your personality showing

Good and evil combined

Two sides of a face we all have

I can’t seem to draw only one side

For you have many facets

A diamond, an emerald–

Do you compare?

Are you the jewel of the man I thought I knew

Or the facade I’m finding now.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 6

I like to travel to the unknown

Spend my time blown in the zap zone

I like to hop on my rocket ship

Put on my goggles for a safe trip

My eyes protected against the clouds

And those birds squawking loud

Listening to my favorite tunes

“Rocket man” is the one I choose

Or something like “Stairway to Heaven”

Helps to complete the sweven

Only a short trip this time

Need to wake up and make some rhymes.

My favorite version of “Rocketman” by Andreas Kummert. I always like the original auditions before all the producers, makeup and others ruin the contestants.

October Writing Prompts

SoCS 10-6-18

Howdy! Chilly, cloudy and damp, unusual for WY, but of course someone is moving in next door so it’s raining! Happens every time, Murphy’s at it again. The Prompt today is card. Makes me think of the old saying, “he’s such a card” meaning, clever, funny, etc. so I looked it up and this is the “official” meaning.

Haunted Wordsmith Challenge 10-6-18

“Once upon a midnight dreary…” she chanted over the boiling cauldron. Laughter permeated the classroom as the students nervously contemplated Miss Jones’ intentions.

The teacher of the year award winner wanted to set the mood for Edgar Allen Poe’s famous poetry. It took a lot of extra work these days with such competition from all sides of technology looming in the classroom. Miss Jones excelled in keeping her students interested and was most times successful.

As she had prepared the kettle with dry ice ahead of time and when adding the prepared blood red juices, it smoked, causing an interesting aspect to pique the interest of the sixth graders. Seemingly all knowing, jaded at the age of twelve, even the most nonchalant were fascinated. She had previously placed “the raven” above a high window and other suggestive items were placed strategically around the room.

“As I pondered, weak and weary…” she continued.
