Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt 99

It won’t take fifty-two

And no surprise to you

Anathema times two

Is what I think of you

Policies fought for many years

Now seem to be in arrears

Judgements by a particular few

Using their “faith” to undo

Insighting scary mobs of angry women, men

Seems to be your new trend.

Story Starter 28

“We the jury, find the defendant, perfectly innocent!” Mr. B. dismisses the jury with 64 well chosen words from a 300+ page document that probably no tax paying citizen will ever see. There will be taunts from each side of the courtroom as to hidden truths, downright lies, misinterpretations, accusations and discussion in every avenue, but the bottom line is, justice did not, will not prevail.

SoCS – March 30, 2019

Goooood morninnnng Bloggers! It is Saturday, it is cloudy, snow on the ground, it is chilly and one of those yes, a second cup of hot, please. . .hot whatever. I’m trying a new coffee, French vanilla, not exactly perfect, but okay. I don’t have a lot of dough to spend on Starbucks where a “grande”? costs the same as an entire meal, so I experiment at home with different flavors. I just finished my daughter’s recommendation, creme brûlée which I liked, but am now bored with it. Now an actual creme brûlée dessert is great. I think my mom used to make the New England version, egg custard browned on top with cinnamon. To me it’s the same dessert without the fancy name.

I hope everyone here has a fantastic weekend! For something different and fun, buy a pack of bubblegum and see how big a bubble you can blow, js.😂

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS March 30/19

Lights, Camera, Action!

The neon glow enveloped the city built by and for corporations. Mary looked in awe, her dream coming true. She had wanted this life, being an actress, since she was six years old. Her first attempt was a talent contest at her elementary school when she received first prize. From then on, all of her efforts were to achieve the one thing, fame as an actress.

The lights mesmerized her as she walked down the most famous street of all. She noticed there were very few people on the street this time of the night but she felt no fear or intimidation. She worked hard to be here and enjoyed the reward of seeing the neon lights in person.

The closer she came to the bright pink column, her eyes seemed to lose focus. She thought it was just tiredness after the long bus ride. She passed a derelict who reached out to her, whispering, “turn back” in a gravelly voice. She hurried by him when a few feet past, another figure stepped out of a doorway frightening her with another warning, “go back home”. She started to feel goosebumps on her skin and an eerie feeling came over her. The printed signs didn’t seem to be in English, just symbols. Mary thought her dream had come true, but as she turned around, the scene changed. The encompassing neon lights became too bright and she passed out on the street.

“Another one for our experiments, Sydney. She’s lovely and young. This will take time, heh, heh.” The two henchmen carried yet another victim into the large building–corporate headquarters for “Youth Beauty Serums”.

Worth the Effort

I was always told nothing of value could be accomplished without putting in the effort. . .if at first you don’t succeed. . .words I’m sure we’ve all heard quite a few times. The idea is to dedicate yourself entirely to a project and with hard work and perseverance you will end up with a desired outcome.

Certainly we’ve seen this in our current leader. Everything he does is to promote himself and his off the wall–pun intended–ideas; not to improve our nation as a whole, not to help the helpless, promote goodwill in the world, but to help himself. He wants to be president again in 2020. How can we prevent this? By taking age old wisdom of the first two sentences and applying it.

Manicured fingers tweeting

Hate and dominance repeating

Busy thumbs don’t ever stop

Printing words that are pure slop

Talking hate, it never ends

Berating all of our old friends

Secrets, treaties, no amends

Isolation seems his trend.

Dedicate – Word of the Day Challenge

They Call me the Black Widow

The widows web, amicable, mea-culpa

I weave a steel strength web

Attractive, welcoming all

It’s beauty is amicable

Causing them to fall

My work is arduous

My widow’s web

Effects are torturous

But my invitation clear

No mea-culpa, dear.

Three Line Tales – Time Dances On

Shy and vulnerable, they sat, stealing glimpses across the dance floor. The urge, even a compelling feeling rose over her, as she sat uncomfortably in the straight backed chair.

Could she take this chance? Next up was the Sadie Hawkin’s dance when any young woman could ask any young man to dance. A visible shiver ran up her spine as she anticipated her challenge. The announcer paused and spoke into the microphone with a large grin and a wink. “Get ready, gentlemen, it’s the ladies’ turn!”

Kate almost stumbled, rising from her seat. Her aim was clear–Joe, the unsuspecting target.
