Rory’s Late Night Quick Draw

Well describing myself in seven words might be a chore, since I’m such a fascinating creature. . .humorous (looks aren’t everything), compassionate, impatient, loving, wheelchair bound, and curious.

I find humor in almost everything.

French fries

Plum wine

Maple walnut

“And Sometimes I Just Sits” by our own Jim Webster.

“Hurt Locker”. . .again!

Pot roast

Bacon and eggs

I love all music, except most rap

Fourteen days in Hawaii

Hawaii again

Toss up between wolves and tigers

I like most games, currently Scrabble with grandkids

Watching any sports my grandkids play or rugby in general. The Red Sox this year were fantastic!

There was a little girl who had a little curl….thought it was about me. . .probably was

It must be red, maybe blue, green?

Any day spent with my kids and/or their kids is perfect

Thanks, Rory, it was fun!

A to Z Challenge – V – Veterans

The plight of Veterans came home to me again last night as I watched a particularly poignant episode of “Seal Team”. Part of the episode showed a sadly typical day at a VA hospital with patients waiting and not being able to be treated.

I realize this is fiction–the premise is not. I saw this treatment locally at a VA hospital here which is a chosen hub by surrounding states.

We seem to spend money on weapons we’ll never use and vacations for wealthy leaders, but when a person returns after a tour of duty, seeing and experiencing things an average American couldn’t imagine, we drop them like a hot potato.

I’ve met PTSD sufferers, seen the lines, and helpless employees in the system. This dynamic needs to change. Our current “king” hasn’t a clue, much less the mental capability to know what it’s like to be in their shoes.

Three Line Tales #169

Shedding her raincoat in order to reveal her best assets, the especially-favored-by-older-men enhanced assets. The tight pink sweater barely covered the red undergarments, but that was intended.

Adjusting the thigh high fishnets and checking the straps on her stilettos–dang those were hard to walk in on slippery streets. They were necessary for every “lady of the evening”, as the old ones called her. It was a more pleasant reference she much preferred to the other terms used by careless young cads.

These were all facts she had resigned herself to, for in this type of profession you can’t be choosy.

Three Line Tales, Week 169

Haunted Wordsmith Story Starter

“I have no idea how it got there.” Jack didn’t even try to appear apologetic.

“What? You expect me to think you’re innocent, like you didn’t mean for me to see that stain on your shirt? I suppose if I had delayed doing the wash another day it might have disappeared? You’re not even trying to hide this!”

Marie held up the shirt and shoved it towards her husband. The extra bright red lipstick plus smudged makeup on the shoulder of his shirt proved what she thought, and all she needed to know. This was it, she’d had enough. She bagged the evidence and made an appointment with her lawyer.

Jack was resigned to the divorce proceedings. He’d felt this way a long time and was ready to be free, no matter the circumstances.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt #102

Best bib and tucker was his look

He’d read all the fashion books

Trying to make the best impression

Even went to a charm school session

Joe was enamored well

Saw a girl, it was an instant spell

When he saw her his heart swelled

A beauty, and her name was Belle.

Belle was from a societal peak

Where Joe’s position was rather bleak

Skipping over his low agnation

Wanted to act above his station

No one but Joe thought this was needed

Even Belle, if she had been heeded

Joe approached coiffed with cravat on chest

And hoping that Belle would be impressed.

Netflix Series: Rake

I started a new-to-me Netflix series “Rake”. After the first episode passes and you can eat again the rest are better.

I love this type of character and there is a lot of humor, even pathos. Which I think go hand in hand in life. It takes place in an Australian atmosphere and Richard Roxburgh is the lead as Cleaver Greene, an appropriate name. From the net:

“Richard Roxburgh plays Cleaver Greene, a talented but self-destructive barrister who uses unconventional methods and usually defends those beyond redemption. With unyielding optimism he takes on only the most difficult court cases that no one else wants, from suicide bombing to sex offences and thefts to psychotic school girl drama. At the same time the Sydney barrister tries to put his personal life in order, where his addiction to short term highs and women land him into trouble.

Awards: Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actor”

It has everything, rated R definitely, no apologies, I like it.

A to Z Challenge – U – Unknown

Feelings, words, his thoughts expressed

Penned on papers, in card successed

Held against your heart hard pressed

Love so elegantly confessed

The paper crushed upon your chest

With your tears, softly compressed

Realize what once thought best

Comes from thinking you were blessed

Mingling now with all the rest

Only promises were his quest

Now will not ease the saddened breast.
