Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt #104

Pulling out the old iPad

Always a treat, rarely sad

Start my morning routine

With coffee and the iPad screen

Many comic posts to meander

Or recipe site using coriander

Mental health written with candor

Lover of pets–a salamander?

All these types of posts are pandered.

MLMM Saturday Mix

The tall pines on the hill poked at the clouds-

odd shaped marshmallows drifting in a sea of blue

Meanwhile specks of coal fluttered by in distant coveys

seeking dinner served on a green carpet

Frightened fawns warily slipped in and out from spiky cushions

uneasy in their living room couches of large bush

Our obtrusive visit shunned by peeking fern fronds

Two legged visitors were not welcome here.

Word of the Day : Delight

Many thoughts come to mind with the word delight. Just this week I made a comfort food lunch, Gypsy Delight, which is an egg on bread with a hole in the middle so the egg flares out on both sides, fried with butter. I’ve heard it called different things, but my mom used GD.

Then there’s the afternoon delight. . .those were the good old days : )

A look on a child’s face, seeing anything. . .when do we lose that feeling of delight?

A father’s expression seeing his new born child.

Expression on a person’s face seeing their 80th birthday cake.

A delight for me was seeing this pic taken by my granddaughter while shopping. It’s finding beauty in the mundane, which I believe is an essential element of happiness.

There are lots of delights in the world, pbysical, spiritual, natural, visual and audible. Enjoy!

SoCS May–are you really sure? 4-2019

Just read a news report that Warren AFB located here in Cheyenne sent people for the launch in California of an unarmed ICBM for testing. It landed near the Marshall Islands. The article further explained that Warren AFB might be an ideal target for enemies with such devices. Talk about falling from the sky! Is it not bad enough we live in a brown, decorated with cement, extremely windy so even a sixty degree day feels like winter, non garden spot? Reports on a different page suggest Cheyenne is growing rapidly–why is certainly unclear to me.

Happy Saturday, people!😎

The Haunted Wordsmith 5-3-2019

“I’m hitting play!” Julie, being in her thirties, unmarried, but an oh so available participant, couldn’t wait to play on the new website. It was Saturday morning and the three women were gathered around Mary’s big screened monitor.

She and her friends were bored of playing Scrabble every Friday night, just the three of them, so changed it up a bit, often changing the rules. That is when they got their big idea.

“I need a D to use this word. “The others asked, “what word?” “Wizard” she said, and they all nodded in agreement it was a great word.

Next, it was Sylvia’s turn who was holding up two letters staring at the word net, hoping to add to it. She only had an H and an E left so she placed them in front of net, forming henet. “That’s not a word!” the others exclaimed.

“It is now” Sylvia laughed. Sylvia Googled the word finding the website title had not been claimed, and purchased it on the spot. They busily perused other dating sites, asking for photos of willing men. Their site was up and running the next day.

Three Line Tales #170 and Putting My Feet in the Dirt #4

Anne of Gruesome Gables poured tea, and now was steadying her hand to cut the cake. The knife was not large enough to dispose of her frowning relatives quickly. It was tempting, while pouring the boiling hot tea, trying not to scald them.

The party guests deserved whatever they got, and might this be the perfect timing, her mother’s birthday? Mary’s hand braced, although her instincts were to dispose of the women, once and for all. She glanced at their always disapproving faces, while horrid childhood memories flooded.

Maybe I’ll celebrate at Christmas–New Year’s would be appropriate, she thought, smiling.

Word of the Day: Seam

I thought as I looked, it must be a dream

As my safe existence seemed to burst at the seam

I hate to admit I muffled a scream

As the object observed gave me a chill

A spider or similar travelling at will

On my carpet near my bedding, I felt ill!

My sanctuary, my respite, so invaded

By an ugly creature I always hated

How close my vacuum, I debated?

I’d never touch such a horrid thing

How to dispose of it, wonder can it sting?

Can’t touch it or else I’d give it a fling

Odd shaped for a spider, not sure if it was two

Large enough, maybe having a screw

Whatever, still see it, my mind askew

I have a thing about spiders and crawlies

Oh you can write of your friendly follies

But I have a phobia, so laugh, get your jollies

While I’m praying the horror doesn’t move

While I sneak out to the other room

And retrieve my murdering electric broom

Aha I think, with a thank you to the vacuum I love

No need for an antiseptic glove

It worked, sucked it/them to the great above.

A new problem now, in the vacuum sealed with tape

I taped up the holes so they wouldn’t escape

Now it’s sitting there under trash bag drape

I hoped all night sealed in would be their demise

Now wondering if that was very wise

Need to empty the vac, and hope my eyes

Don’t get a wiggling surprise

Just spiders you say, I hear the chuckle

But my fear of them causes knees to buckle

To me, one seen, means there might be a muckle!

Guess I’ll have to do it, bare knuckle.
