Jujojan-01-20-2017-Transcendent

She was always in the mirror

Wished her beauty was much clearer

Then dreams of love from the Prince

He wouldn’t need to be convinced

To notice her, but she was plain

With such a spectacular brain.

She needed to be transcendent

Dress in something with an essence

Do her hair a special way.

Would he see and turn away?

She didn’t know that he had spied

And looked on her as future bride.

Appearances can be deceived

But her knowledge he perceived

No need to shirk his princely duty

Brains were his idea of beauty.

#JusJoJan Daily Prompt – Jan. 20th/17

Daily Prompt:  Privacy

I admit to wearing leggings and socks

Otherwise my knees tend to knock

I don’t wear gowns with too much lace
To sleep, no makeup on my face
My goal is warmth so legs will rest
Keeping me up, they do their best.
I never shut the bedroom door
Unless my company has to snore
So privacy is not on my list
Got claustrophobia, get the gist?
So even if someone took a peek
They wouldn’t find what they seek

At bedtime I am fully clothed

But then, I am not betrothed.

Younger days when being married

Nightclothes over years were varied.

Soft and sexy is how it started

After kids those gowns departed.

Privacy with kids is hardly abled

So sexy attire was often tabled.

Now I can dress for myself

But still have some things on the shelf.

Ok, I give up on spacing!  It never looks here like it shows in the preview.   What’s up with that?

Photo Challenge-148

They stood at the edge of the lake.  She looked down to see that the moonlight cast their shadows on the water.  She looked bigger there, downcast as she was, she couldn’t stop looking at it.  This was a mess, she never intended to leave, especially with help from him.  He was such an undesirable little man, but she had no choice.  He had the answer.  The only answer she could use, especially now, with the baby.  Yes, she was running away.  It was the only viable decision.  Taking a chance with this man was her only recourse.  Turning away from the lake, she wrapped the baby tighter.  Waiting for the boat was taking longer than expected and the early hour was chilling.

He took another smelly puff on the cigar.  “This little cutie will pay off well”, he thought.  “‘Course I feel sorry for her, but I can’t think about that.  This is what I do, for a price, a big price.”  He adjusted his hat as he gazed upon his shadow in the water.  “She’ll be okay, and I like the money”.  He looked up to scan the lake for the boat.  It would drift in to shore silently.  No need to raise suspicion among the lakeside residents.  He didn’t want any complications.

The baby started to squirm.  He was hungry and tried to move towards his mother’s breast.  “You’ll have to wait till we’re on our way”, whispering to the infant as if he could understand.  She wrapped him tighter.  If only the boat wasn’t so late, she would have been gone by now.  She looked around.  It seemed no one was awake, all quiet, and then a faint motor hummed.

The man took a few more puffs on that odorous cigar.  “That’ll be him.  Ready?”  As soon as the boat neared shore, she handed the old man the money.  It was everything she had, except enough to take care of her son till she could find work.  Stepping into the boat, she looked back at the place she loved, once upon a time.  It seemed  forever since she was an innocent teenager, though only a year and a half had passed. She sat down and looked only to the lake.  That life was over.  She hugged her son, hoping they would survive on their own.

I Don’t Like January(s)

Twists and turns in relationships cause unhappiness, worries, depression, dreams, joy, thrills, and can either help maintain, or destroy them. I have experienced all and still felt the need to try again. Life is out there for us to experience, not all good, but certainly not all bad. I commented to someone here that “you’ll never know until you try”. Not said for the first time by me, but good advice?

The last two years I’ve had the best and worst of a relationship, constantly changing, but rewarding overall. I took a chance. I am not one to be quiet, (no remarks from the peanut gallery, please) so gave it my all. I don’t regret it.

There’s no funny poem to write. I’m not ready for that. I do not like Januarys.

Random Words- Week 1

She walked down the hallway. She wanted to hide, she was so shy. But this was a new opportunity, a new job. It paid no commissions, which was her downfall, being so timid. This paid a weekly salary of $300.00 flat. It was not as much as she’d hoped, but enough to get by. The work was easy enough.

She opened the door to her new office. I can handle this, she thought.

Picture Prompt-42

Ty tried to explain, to tell them, many times.  No one seemed to listen.  So now he was done; his girlfriend, his job, all of it.  He couldn’t stand the pressure any longer.  He was sitting in the alley, calling his best friend to ask for help.  “I’m done, Scott. You said you had a friend in Vegas with a job.  Was that legit?  I need your help.  I can’t go back and I need a place to stay.  Can I come over?”  Ty relied on his friend, the only compassionate person he knew.

Of course Ty’s friend said it was okay and actually felt good about being able to help.  Ty had a horrible life.  His foster parents, even his old girlfriend, never seemed to really care about him.  Ty had been shifted from foster homes over and over.  Even the school didn’t help.  They knew the situation, but didn’t want to take it that one step further to help. He even admired Ty, his ability to try adjusting to each new family.  He’d known Ty for five years, all through high school and now.  He wanted to help him.  He hoped the construction job in Vegas would be an answer for both of them.  He needed his friend to succeed at something.  This trip might be the answer.  He opened the door, and welcomed Ty with a hopeful smile.

Daily Post: Exposure- Noir

She sauntered into the room with a dangerous attitude. It was smoky, but she scanned the room for him. She liked to feel those eyes on her, as she slid onto the barstool. Every movement was calculated for the most exposure. She took the opportunity of attention, and hiked her skirt to adjust the holster on her thigh. She was looking for trouble and his name was Pete. After the patrons’ eyes focused back on their drinks, she leaned over the bar. “You seen Pete?”

The bartender smiled nervously, and stuttered “uh, not tonight, Lacey.” He knew Pete well, and thought his hiding in the back room wouldn’t keep Lacey from finding him. When she was on the war path, everyone just kept out of her way.

Lacey knew he was lying, but couldn’t blame him. His awkward smile gave him away. She slowly slid off the barstool, adjusted everything that needed it, and started for the poker room in back. The customers decided it was time to leave.

She threw back the curtain and opened the back room door. All eyes were on Lacey as she entered the room with that slinky, slow revolving body they enjoyed watching.

“Pete here?” She knew the answer but wanted them to squirm a bit. A sudden noise drew her eyes to the right. There he was, drunk as usual, losing their money in another futile poker game.

“Lacey! Don’t worry, I only lost a couple hundred tonight. Glad to see you came,” lying through his clenched teeth. He went over to her and tried to kiss her on the cheek. She pushed him away and he fell into a chair. She lifted her skirt and took out the gun she always carried.

“This is the last time, Pete. I warned you.” The other players hurriedly scattered away from Pete. Pete’s face blanched.

“But, honey, I love you! Don’t, Lacey, I promise I won’t come back here!”

“I know you won’t, Pete.” She shot him three times, just to make sure his promise was kept.

Jujojan-01-21-2017 and SoCS- Glass

First thing?  Is your glass half empty or half full?  This has always been a puzzle for me, because each day is different.  Some days you’re on top of the world, playing cards with your grandkids, or receive the text I did today:  “R is craving Rice Krispie treats and says we suck at making them.  She loves yours best.”

“I don’t have the ingredients,” I text back.  R writes: “then roll down to Safeway”. We are all laughing at this point.  R is the granddaughter still recovering from hip surgery, home for the weekend for PT.  The kids always preferred my RK treats because I add butterscotch chips and peanut butter.  They are getting the ingredients, and I’ll  cook.

My glass is always half full when it comes to family.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS and #JusJoJan Jan. 21/17

Photo Fiction-72-300 Words

It’s just an old lock, look, a vine growing out of it, it is so old. And rusty. Its colors are beautiful. It reminds me of living life. There is still usefulness here in this lock. It’s not broken. Life has mistreated it, leaving it alone, and unattended, so it has started to rust. But it is still a vital piece of equipment, and time has improved its beauty from a shiny silver patina to warm, colorful hues. The bright green ivy coming from the protected inner part of the lock is the plant’s beginning, starting roots are safe there. This is a lock that has secrets tucked inside, waiting to be discovered.

What do you suppose this lock has been used for? Most probably a high school locker, or a bicycle chain attachment? Was it used on an old trunk with secret papers inside? Could it have been used on a toolbox in a woodworking shop? It might have been on a storage unit that holds memories of a life gone by. You think it’s too big for a teenage girl’s diary holding passionate writings of her boyfriends? Could it be from a door in an old house that no one should open? Was it used to protect a jewelry box full of antique treasured items of a ninety year old woman? It might have been used to keep rifles, guns and ammunition from the hands of prying children.

The bright green ivy plant is a new and completely different part of the lock. No matter how old it is, it is still trying to reach out. The lock refuses to be ignored, and is inviting its surroundings to see it is still here, waiting to be noticed, used, unlocked and locked again.

Mystery Blogger Award

Thank you https://poetry2473.wordpress.com for nominating me for this award. I am surprised by new followers and humbly accept the nomination. I find your poetry very beautiful, often expressing my own thoughts.

Three things about myself are, I love humor, I have a Viking heritage, and I love the Rocky Mountains.  A link to my best post?  Well you’d have to specify, funny, serious, or just plain weird, because I never know what’s coming until I start writing. Posts I like may not be well received.  It’s pretty much a gamble for me.  And that’s part of the fun!

Questions from poetry2473:

What is the meaning of life?

What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?

Where is the most beautiful place you’ve traveled?

What is your meaning of a successful life?

What makes you happy?

1.  I don’t know the meaning of life.  The most important thing to me personally, is LOVE and all the different meanings of it.

2.  Well that could take a while since I am a goofy person.  I have gotten more clumsy as I’ve aged and was on my way to being disabled.  One stands out.  I was going from the transport chair to the front seat of the car.  My legs suddenly collapsed.  I was going down in between the two when my granddaughter grabbed me.  She saved me from hurt, but injured her hand from the car doorway.  Her hand, now four years later, has a two+inch thick scar from the incident.  Every time I see it, I feel horrible.  She laughs it off saying it gives her character.  What a great kid.  Now almost nineteen on a Daniels’ scholarship at UNC in Greeley, CO.  Nah, I’m not a bit proud….

3.  The most beautiful place I have traveled to was Maui.  We had 13 days to explore Hawaii, and it was so relaxing.  It was a dream come true.  We spent three days at Waikiki and it was a disappointment because the beach was not clean and the city was like any other with one exception.  There were many prostitutes in the street and they tried to seduce my young teenage boys.  Maui was totally different and the island was so diverse.  I would love to see Maui again.  At the time, visitors were not allowed on Kuwai but I would love to see that too. The family wanted to visit the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor.  I couldn’t even look into the water.

4.  I think a successful life includes purpose in your everyday living, whether it be your faith, your family, or  your work.  We are truly lucky to have a shelter, clothing, and food.  The love of family and friends is a bonus.

5.  Many things bring me happiness.  The answer in number four above is foremost.  Positivity and humor are  important things I use to “get by” everyday.  I love writing here and reading other people’s feelings here.  Music also plays a part.  My kids and grandkids figure in all this, top of the list.  I am a lucky person, always have been.  So, who wants to go to Las Vegas?

Here are some of the blogs I love to read.  Every person is unique in their offerings and style.
