Is that a teardrop
In a trail going down your face
Then just let it flow
Wash out the present sorrow
Your life might change tomorrow.
Is that a teardrop
In a trail going down your face
Then just let it flow
Wash out the present sorrow
Your life might change tomorrow.
Will she love me, day and night
Or is this my own dream of delight?
Am I handsome, am I smart
Think I could ever win her heart?
These are questions in my mind each night
Or is her ignorance just an oversight?
At first you were soft
Beating high as a loft
But it didn’t last
And down you were cast
At first happy and glad
The ride turned you sad
Eventually, mad and
You felt unclad.
There are songs that sing
About your fragile strings
It is quite fantastic
How you’re so elastic.
What’s good about today? It’s National Pie Day!!!! The following is one of my older posts.
Daily Prompt: Tart
There’s one thing especially close to my heart
When the Prompt is fixed on something like tart.
It’s yellow and white, pleases the eye.
Of course you know, it’s a lemon pie!
The filling for me is a tart lemon curd
Not feeling it? Cause I used that word?
We always say filling, it’s the chefs and the cooks
Who besmirch the pudding in all of their books.
But, as usual, I tell this with TMI
I remind you it is my favorite pie.
The crust has to be specially prepared
So it doesn’t absorb lemon juice there
Without being…..dare I say soggy?
You’d need to feed it to your special doggie
Have to use real lemons, not juice from plastic
There’s where the flavor comes, truly fantastic.
To top off this marvelous delight
A meringue, sweet, fluffy and light.
So that’s my story of making a pie
Tart and sweet both, I tell you no lie.

Got it! We girls in the family went to see this movie today:
It was a little upsetting for me in parts because I remembered experiencing this prejudice first hand in the sixties living in Houston, Texas. Even in later years, the division was clear in some towns that had separate facilities for blacks and whites. I did not know of these important women and am so glad to learn about them, even this late. Everyone should see this.

He only spoke promises, such rhetoric.

They aren’t coming back. I should have known. A loving family with a mom, dad, a sister and brother for me. What is it they say –too good to be true? I should have known, just like all the others, a few days and then I’m back here. It’s not always my fault. This time I should have just stayed quiet, not answering their questions with the truth.
No one believes the truth. They think things like that couldn’t possibly happen to a girl my age. A lot of things did, and whenever they ask, I don’t lie. I tell them of my past.
A girl so young shouldn’t have a past. Her life could have been loving, with a nice school, birthday parties, and friends. The girl looked out to see a fourth hope driving off. She was getting so discouraged. No one was going to believe her, or take her into their family when they knew what she’d been through. I have to tell no one, not again. They just think I’m lying. I’ll just keep everything to myself. The nightmares won’t let me forget, but I can try to hide the rest.
A few weeks later, another prospective family came. They looked friendly. She decided she would do or say anything to get out of the facility. The matron walked beside her to meet them.

Sweet, of course
Unusual, maybe
Calculated, of course
Carefree? Possibly
Effort, much
Slow? Usually
Satisfying, certainly
Failure? Not an option
Useful, definitely
Long? You can only hope.
It’s just part of a plot.
The older woman not to blame
She’s happy to take his name.
He on the other hand is crafty and young
But on this day his hopes are hung
On marrying, then leave the old lady
A scoundrel is he? Well maybe.
You see his family’s fortune was taken
By the first husband of this maiden.
I admit it was hardly her fault
But try to stop him? She did not.
All she knew was he had money to spend
Where it came from she didn’t intend
To question, just enjoy.
Now she was loved by a different boy
Young and handsome, oh what joy!
After the wedding vows were spoken
He knew his wife’s heart would be broken
But all he wanted was revenge
And all her money he would scavenge
A broken heart did not concern him
Even though her future’s dim
Not his problem when he absconds
With the money, stocks, and bonds.
