The Sunday Whirl

The felon checked his work. The pinpricks would soon close up leaving no evidence of the slithery perpetrator as Joe shoved it into his bag and zipped the lid. “You did nice work” he whispered to the tiny viper. With a chilling sneer Joe completed yet another murderous trip for his employer.

The distraught husband would never miss his payments again and all traces of foul play would be banished in his wife’s ultimate demise after a string of similar attacks. Her heart simply could not take another episode and gave out.

Six Sentence Story

***

She had heard the old saying, “a key to a man’s heart…” but she was no Julia Child. She had no old favorite recipe book handed down from generations. However, she did know a great caterer—no, that wouldn’t do, that would be lying and not a way to start a relationship. She remembered Barnes and Noble was a good place to find a cookbook and went up to their counter to ask for advice. It was then she forgot about cooking an enticing recipe for someone else, seemingly mesmerized by the clerk’s bright blue eyes. They say love at first sight is a myth, but he was equally smitten by her big browns.

MLMM Saturday Mix

Welcome to the Saturday Mix, 4 June 2022! This week we are dipping our toes into the pool of OPPOSITES. Our challenge is all about “opposing forces” and the use of antithesis in our writing. You will need to use the two opposing words in your response – which can be poetry or prose. Our words this week are: – expose and shelter – floor and ceiling

***

He looked down at the floor

As he hung from the ceiling

A shelter no more

His mind started reeling.

What monster was this daring to expose

His magician’s secrets?

Now the audience knows!

My first thought was Arnie, you know Arnold Schwarzenegger? Remember him and the book “Pumping Iron”?

It was published in 1974 with Arnie on the cover.

“Schwarzenegger was known as the Styrian Oak, or Austrian Oak, in the bodybuilding world, where he dwarfed his competition. He won his first amateurMr. Universe title in 1967. After moving to California in 1968 to train and compete in bigger events in the United States, he won three more Mr. Universe titles and then the professional Mr. Olympia title six years in a row (1970–75) before retiring.”

That Darn Evidence

The detective looked at the serration on the victim’s neck. “Yup, looks like a bread knife to me.”

“I think you spent too much time in traffic today and you shouldn’t compromise your reputation just because you’re tired. Have another cup of coffee, and we’ll let the experts decide.”

The detective looked over an article the victim had displayed on his computer: “Hemp is the new string of natural products you can grow to improve your health, even a possible cure for certain types of cancer.”

“Well that doesn’t tell us much…”

His partner agreed, but then, “except maybe he was making reservations for a flight to Oregon to buy some. Look at this, pointing to an e-ticket on the desk.

The detective shrugged and asked, “why kill someone over this?”

After further investigation, the two policemen discovered that the victim’s lover didn’t want him to get cured from the cancer he was suffering from. If he did, then there would be no insurance money.

The lover, Joe Schmoe, was later discovered in his kitchen trying to dispose of, you guessed it…a bread knife.

depressing news and there’s too much celebrity going’s on to care about.
There is a WAR going on, have we forgotten?
