Todays prompt: Write a poem using the words
“notes”, “memory”, and “knife”

***

I wrote a story instead.🙃

The knife came out, almost as if on its own, like a horrific memory of something he did in his past. Suddenly aware it was there in his hand, gleaming silvery sharp and lethal. He tried to fold it, put it back in his pocket. He didn’t want to ever hold it again. He didn’t even want it in his pocket but no matter where he tried to put it, it found it’s way back into his pocket. He tried to joke it off saying, well at least it’s folded shut when it lands in there, but he was actually terrified.

The paranormal psychiatrist just kept a silent steady nonplussed gaze at her notes. It seemed she really wasn’t listening to him at all.

“This isn’t a dream, Dr. Nough, it is really happening. Look, can’t you see it?” Joe placed the knife close to the doctor’s arm and insisted she stop writing and look at it. Her nonchalance cued an odd feeling in him and he stepped closer. Now the knife was in control. It quickly sliced a long curve into the doctor’s neck. “See? I told you, it’s not a dream, it’s happening!”

An attendant grabbed Joe as he was calmly walking down the hospital corridor. “This isn’t my fault”, he said to the guard, “I told her it was happening.”

Simply Six Minutes – Barforama

  1. Set up a timer or sit near a clock so you can keep track of the six minutes you will be writing.
  2. You can either use one of the prompts (photo or written) or you can free-write.
  3. Get ready and write for 6 minutes, that is it! Can you write a complete story? Can you think of a new Sonnet? Can you write 400 words? 400? 500? There are no restrictions on what kind of writing you do, but you should try to be actively writing for six minutes.
“I didn’t do it, did you do it?”
“Nah, I think Mikey did it.”
“What? No way Jose, I wouldn’t touch that with a ten foot pole!” The five boys dressed in Halloween masks stood peering into the bag. “Guys, I think I’m gonna puke!” Then of course they all felt like that and whatever was indeed “in the bag” was now covered in regurgitated Halloween candy.

Yeah, they call me a beatnik

I don’t really care

I won’t ever be like them…square

I have thoughts you know

About the earth and it’s care

I have tried to expand my mind

With whatever is there

My friends understand me

We all live together

We keep to ourselves and they call us a cult

We just want to survive and figure it out

War and protests, rights for all people

Don’t need to be in a place under some steeple

We respect your space and you should ours

As we speak our poetry in clubs in late hours

We just want peace, to travel around

Spread the word that the world isn’t sound

So call me a beatnik, whatever you choose

But respect the concepts, we have new ideas and views.

A track of tears detected
Emotions shown, and unexpected
Surprised at his show of feelings
Unraveling so, she found it appealing
No bravado in his manner
No manly, macho banter
A simple “sorry” softly spoken,
Wreathed, then enclosed her heart
It was, real love.

Vermont Autumn

***

The season is autumn where every flower’s leaf eventually falls to the earth, providing sustenance in wait for spring. This is the second time of year when the breeze is filled with scents to envelop your being, turn your mind to childhood days when a crisp apple was ready to pick and munch. The air is full of the orchard fruit, cider, and promise. The first of the year’s scents come in spring when the smell of maple from sugaring bins boils into syrup.

3TC – Information Age(ing)

“You always let your emotions get the better of you”. If I had a nickel for every time I heard that—wait, you better make that a dollar…you know, inflation?

If I’m feeling sorrow or anger, you’re going to know it. My feelings go straight to my face and even if they don’t, they’ll be coming out of my mouth.

The only thing sad about it is some of my curiosity’s waning. I always thought curiosity was a good thing. You can learn a lot if you’re curious. But now all you have to do is open your phone, turn on your TV, or open your computer and you are completely inundated. And not in a good way.

Spam and junk emails, texts, advertisements and horrible political ads invade us every minute of the day. And no one seems to know how to get rid of it or stop it.

So I think I’ll keep my curiosity because I like to learn “stuff”. I like to read about “stuff”. I like to research “stuff” and if you’re not curious, you don’t do that. You take all of that crap that they’re putting out as facts, which it is not.
