SYW April 30, 2018

The last day of April this Monday, and I must say I hope May comes in like a lamb tomorrow, we are pretty tired of the cold. Here are my answers to ceenphotography.com‘s questions above.

🌱🌱🌱🌱

1. I rarely carry cash and it is a problem. I can’t run into an ATM anytime I would like. Having been a cashier at one time I do organize bills. If you have a good number of bills you display in public, I would suggest always keeping ones on the outside visible part. Flashing big bills is asking for trouble. I always carry quarters, an old habit before I had a cell phone, or for a grandchild’s needed ride on the mechanical horse outside the Safeway store.

2. I have to be comfortable with doing nothing some times, although rare because of modern technology. I guess the word “modern” went out in the eighties, but I still use it! Everyone, even me, has earbuds for use in horrid waiting rooms, or bus rides, to listen to music, play games, write emails. So that doesn’t qualify as nothing, but it seems unproductive. I have lots of unproductive timeπŸ™„πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚

3. I would have to say my greatest strength is resilience, not really a choice, it just is.

This past week was a whirlwind of activity, mostly involving Jesse, the essay winner, and all the events surrounding him. Then soccer games, cold, but warmer than the week before. Cohen, being accepted by UNC and a scholarship pending. His sister is completing her second year there and it’s his parents’ alma mater. So fingers crossed, people, we need this.πŸ’™πŸ’›

Movie Monday

“Firewall” is a suspense thiller action movie I just found this weekend. I liked it and of course I like the actors Harrison Ford and Paul Bettany. The only trailer I found shows too much – I recommend just watching it without knowing any details.

“Bank security expert Jack Stanfield (Harrison Ford) builds a career on his expertise in designing theft-proof computer systems for financial institutions.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 16

This is my interpretation of space jam on toast, a dream to be surrounded by natural beauty in open space, is not only my favorite sweet fruited mush on my favorite food staple, but also the icing on my cake, the cherry on the whipped cream, and the cinnamon stick in my cider.

Have you ever noticed the scent of your clothing after coming in from outside? The fresh breath of the outdoors? People who hang up their sheets on outside lines in the country know this. It’s not been successfully captured by candle makers, even though many try. My daughter and I would shop for clothing in cotton that had this scent. Like the ad says, “the smell, the feel of cotton”, this scent does exist. It’s not the same as the outdoorsy one you get from an adventure in nature, but close.

Now that spring is evidently coming finally, the next best scent I hope to enjoy is newly mown grass. I’d love a candle made of that! πŸ’šπŸŒΏπŸŒΎπŸŒ±πŸ€β˜˜οΈπŸŒ³πŸŒΌπŸŒ»πŸ₯€πŸŒΉπŸŒ·πŸŒΈπŸŒΊπŸ’š

Time to Write 16

Another meeting, another power point that isn’t at all interesting, another two wasted hours on uncomfortable metal folding chairs….

This life, this torturous existence, just to make a living. And not a great living, either, no cabin to retreat to, no boat to while away the hours drifting on a blue lake, no vacation at a hotel in a nearby resort, no shopping at the “best” clothing shops, no dinners in fancy restaurants, no new car in the drive.

A living so you can live, just live; pay your bills, your taxes, and feed your children.

As I sit here enduring another young uninformed speaker ramble on about the business I’ve worked in for twenty-five years, I think, this new innovation isn’t going to work with my customers. They don’t like change. They want tried and true, reliable business from me. They don’t know about webisodes, memes, crossfunctional, retweets, gifs, or the latest iPhone or tablet. They rely on the Big Chief tablets and actual pencils.

AtoZ Challenge Z

As I sit here with one of my favorite companions, thinking of the Prompt, Z, I see the zoo I have around me, especially my Tiger blanket. I love his friendly face, with his protector, comforter, soft against the skin persona. He’s always up for a cuddle or happy just to lounge around by me. He’s luxuriously felt, warm, and always here if I need him. The artist of this beautiful face is Val Warner. I also have a thicker, not as soft, wolf blanket I adore. The rest of my bedding is white with pink flowers so I’m surrounded by nature at its best.

I’ve had a lot of fun with the AtoZ Challenge 2018, and thank you all for reading.

AtoZ Challenge Y and SoCS 4-28-18

Why do people spend a good amount of money for tickets, snacks, etc on a movie theater event and then sit and talk to each other the entire time? I’m asking, because that was our experience last night.

My grandson and I went to “Infinity Wars” at a special theater with great new sound, not too loud like a lot of movies these days, but clear. Two grown men sat next to my grandson because I was sitting next to my wheelchair. The theater was full. These two men were loud during previews but we thought they would quiet down. They didn’t. Every time the sound quieted when actors were conversing we couldn’t hear any of the actors because of their constant talking.

I was getting more irate as the show went on. I finally said “shh” to my grandson’s embarrassment I’m sure. Didn’t stop. Probably my grandson was afraid they’d accost him, he’s a little guy. Later I just sat up and leaned out and looked at them. No change. I finally said to my grandson so they could hear, “this is rude”!

These two “adults” were acting like two year olds.

Going to the movies is a luxury. We both looked forward to this one for months, only to have it ruined, for me at least. The manager came out and spoke to them. As soon as she left they continued. The whole experience, including the movie itself, was a huge disappointment.

Yielding to rudeness is not my style. If possible I leave, if not, I’m not just going to sit and take it.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS April 21/18

MLMM Saturday Mix 4-28-18

I’ve lived in isolated country on a farm, a small mountain town, three suburbs, and in a city center in downtown Houston. In every atmosphere I enjoyed life there. My husband and I built two new houses in Texas.

We lived in a small town in a home built in 1940 that needed constant repair from old age damage. It had a beautiful antique crystal chandelier in the dining room of an otherwise extremely modest small house. It was a treasure, but the kitchen had only one outlet that worked when it chose to. The whole electrical system was iffy and needed repair. We were renting, didn’t expect to stay as long as we did and then both of us had health problems. I’m surprised the house didn’t catch fire from the faulty wiring. The fuse box was constantly used because you could only turn on a couple of electrical things at a time or it would blow a fuse.

This home was one of my favorites, even though we had lived in much finer ones. The deciding factor was that we were close enough, a few blocks, to our daughter and her family to see and babysit often. Attending school and sport events was a beautiful life.
