Time to Write 35

“Can you come here for a second?” My little brother yelled to me.

I sat on the stone wall and swung my legs over. We were playing in the field and I had run to catch up with Joey. He was standing next to a deer. Blood was oozing onto the grass where she lay. Joey’s face was red and full of tears. “What can we do?”

I thought the doe was dead already but Joey didn’t want to accept it. I went over to him and put my arms around him. “It’s too late” I said. “Let’s go home and see if Grampa will help us bury it”.

Joey wiped his face and took my hand as we sadly walked home.

Let it Bleed #21

The relationship was always a little off kilter, sometimes rocky but exciting, never knowing what was coming next. I liked it that way. I’d had enough of the mundane. He was funny, witty, intriguing, intelligent and a pleasing lover. The loneliness I felt was assuaged by his presence. I thought he was everything I needed and wanted.

Suddenly, or maybe it was always there and I just didn’t want to see it, the relationship changed. It was only a small thing, but it wasn’t me. I thought this wouldn’t happen, I asked for it not to happen. He knew what the rules were. But it did.

I gave him a third second chance. I was desperate? It’s over now.

A rider passed under my perch in the tree

Above him was looking, admiringly

“I see you’re a horseman” I said with glee

Don’t suppose you’d share your ride with me?

🍂🍂🍂

The rider looked up from his English saddle

“What do think? I’m completely addle?

There’s no room for you even to straddle!

Just stay in the tree while I skedaddle!”

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 2

I like Jennifer Lopez. I’m stating that as a fact because I’m about to show you the worst picture of her she probably ever had taken. She used to be criticized for her calypygian curves. And I must say I thought she was and still is beautiful as one of the hosts of “World of Dance”. But why she donned this dress, which I would rank as one of the least flattering monstrosities anyone could wear, I have no idea. Maybe her publicist was having a bad day, a very bad day.

June Writing Prompts

Putting My Feet in the Dirt – June 1, 2018

How appropriate prompts are sometimes. The example of a sprinkling of balderdash fits today’s events perfectly. I was just sitting here minding my own business when I was interrupted with a text from my credit card company. They said they were warning me about a debit today and would I confirm a certain purchase made today. TODAY? I haven’t used that card since April 27 to see “Infinity Wars”!

They gave me a number to call in the text, but me being the suspicious, been burned a few times already person that I am, just texted back No. Got out my cc statement and called that number in case the text was fraudulent. Turns out it was used and the text was a valid warning which I appreciated. After our conversation found out the card had been used about ten times since I had hidden it away on the 27th of April. How could this happen I queried, since it never left my possession? Then I learned about mobile apps. OMG! Now what? Another plague on society, mobile apps. At least that’s my opinion. Because anyone who sees your cc number can set up a mobile app using it? This isn’t just a sprinkling of balderdash, it’s the whole enchilada!

Is anyone else out there as crazy as I am ( I didn’t use the word frustrated because I’ve used it so much lately, well since 2017, that I imagine you’re sick of reading it) or is it me? So here’s the thing, I use a cc for convenience since I don’t drive, bus pass denied, and basically don’t go anywhere so never have ready cash. On the rare occasion I’m out, I use a card. I don’t use ATMs because they charge a fee to get your own money out of the bank, another plague. Many places don’t take a cc so it is inconvenient, but I don’t shop! I get groceries once a month, period.

Okay I’m done for now. The cc person said they’re sending me a new card. I said no hurry, I have no intention of using it, I’m paying it off!

I can hardly believe it’s already June, where does the time go?  This month I decided to get *my girls involved once again, and so many of these are ideas are taken from the minds of an 8 yr old and a 16 yr old.  They always come up with some great prompts, and so I’m glad I asked them for their help.

If you’re new to the idea of writing with the help of prompts, here’s what I like to do with them…

To begin, settle into your favorite place in the house with a hot drink to warm your waking bones.  Once you’ve warmed up a bit; grab your journal, a trusty pen, and a timer.  Then, set your timer for ten minutes and begin writing about one of the prompts listed below.  Don’t worry about spelling, punctuation, neatness, or anything like that; just write!  Write about anything…

I must write this today, Friday, because Saturday is high school graduation for my sweet grandson and a gathering afterward. Cool!! It’s probably not going to be very cool tomorrow since some genius decided to have the ceremony at 1:00PM and it’s outside. Brilliant! Cap and gowns over clothes, etc not very comfortable. It was 89F here yesterday but tomorrow it’s supposed to be a pleasant 73F. Keep your fingers crossed.

I purchased a sun hat from the Dollar store for the occasion. . .oh lordy it’s been a while since I wore one of those! : )

As to the subject to be discussed on the prompt, your favorite word, should I be discreet and say it is “cool” which I seem to be saying a lot lately, or the one that pops out when I am startled or scared or hurt that causes my 11 year old granddaughter to shoot me a look? I’ve even written a few of those words here on the blog but don’t spell them out completely. I know full well that I shouldn’t let any of those horrible disgusting words pop out, but they do.

Full disclosure: I was having an argument with my husband a few years ago and said a “bad word”. He calmly replied, “It’s my understanding that anyone who uses language like that has a bad vocabulary”. Should I tell you how I replied to that bit of wisdom? Nah, that was a really bad one. It’s funny to think of it now. Probably the most trying thing in my 40+ years of marriage was his ability to remain calm, never argue and just slip in a quiet killer comment.

So we’ll just stick with cool.

Maude is Producing an Heir!

I moved Maude into my bedroom where more sun might urge her to hurry up and produce roots. Mickey on the other hand has been moved outside to the patio since he was just laying around in the bath. Men!! : )

Maude is producing, I just don’t know what! : ))

Maybe I need to send her over to Elaine’s. There’s something in the water or flowers in the meadow that increases procreation!

MLMM Tale Weaver #173

Growing up, we had a wooden box telephone on the wall in the kitchen. It had a speaker that protruded outward in the front, resembling a small trumpet, and a receiver to hear hung on a hook on the side of the wooden box. Every home was connected by a party line. Each home had a different ring, such as two short rings or two long rings, etc. The ringer was a crank on the other side of the wooden box and you turned it once for each ring. There were no numbers, just different rings and everyone knew who was who.

You could also ring an operator if you needed to call outside your area. These phones were infamous for listening in to people’s conversations. All you had to do after you heard a certain person’s ring, was pick up the receiver to listen to their conversation. Our small farm community had one older woman who loved to spend time doing this. There was no privacy for anyone.

One day my sister’s friend was working on the woman’s farm and then came over to our farm to visit. We received a call and heard someone listening. My sister’s friend yelled into the phone,”Mrs B, you’re beans are burning!”. When he was working for her he noticed she was baking beans. She screamed, “oh no and hung up.” We all had a good laugh.
