Then how do you explain the streak in the sky last night? I’ve never seen a falling star like that, have you?
The two campers couldn’t take their eyes off what they found on the trail that morning. The night was disturbing enough, but here it was, just laying there in a newly made crater.
I think it’s an alien.
Where’s the spaceship then?
Maybe it disintegrated in the atmosphere?
The small body was perfectly still. The only movement was an undulating jupiter glow.
“It’s broken all right, no doubt about it. What in tarnation were you doing up on the roof? There are people who need jobs, who earn money doing this type of work. I can’t understand why you’re up there in the first place. Adding some unnecessary overhang to the shed? Tsk. Tsk.
I saw pictures of you working–thought to myself, he is crazy! He’s going to kill himself getting up on that roof! Then there’s the rain making it slippery, not even mentioning lightning. You know being that high holding metal tools, probably the craziest of all! Bet your back is going to need fusion to repair it! (Tsk, tsk)”
(Dan was not listening to his irritating neighbor, who just stood over him while he lay there unable to move.)
I have no idea how this draft was published. As you can see or did, it was devoid of words?? My iPad combined with WP has been on and off and up to tricks all day. I blamed it on the wifi going in and out….but publishing a draft from two days ago without me pushing a single button? Hmmm, any ideas?
Anyway- I could just as easily have written “I digress”- my favorite, but thought I’d spare you. . .
The wink came about as a discussion on a long car trip on Tuesday. The occupants were my daughter and two of her children and me. The kids were fifteen, a boy, and twenty, a girl. I’ve written about both of them here.
The boy winked at his sister, an independent young woman who then brought it to his attention that it is not appropriate for him to wink at her. That started it. A discussion about whether winking is not just a gesture saying you’re cute or I agree, or that was funny, etc, as I think of winking, but a sexual flirtation, inappropriate for a sibling.
Of course I added my two cents saying I’ve never been able to wink without screwing up my whole face. Of course there’s a difference between a quick wink and a sultry slow one, I agree, but this wasn’t what he did. My granddaughter does not agree. To her it is a form of sexual flirtation. I put my foot in my mouth further by saying I think it’s cute. I don’t see anything wrong with it. Then we got into what is flirting. I said I like to flirt, see nothing wrong with it. I sort of flirt here on the blog all the time, in a funny way in comments. At least what I think of as flirting. Maybe I have it all wrong. If anyone has been offended by my comments, I sincerely apologize.
It was generally decided by the group that winking is an inappropriate form of communication. Oh well, another one bites the dust.
Saturday, a day to sleep in, no worries about dress, hairdo, makeup, that’s what it’s supposed to be, right?
Then you get the call……because when you got home at one last night from watching Mission Impossible with your grandson and went to the ten o’clock show because the seven was sold out, you’d been babysitting all day Friday, tired, but really wanted to see the movie, and spend time with your grandson since he’s leaving for college in ten days and since he’s been working nonstop all summer you’ve rarely had any time with him, you know, the great one I’ve written about many times, you go, you have fun, but then it is Saturday and you wake up all warm and cozy, don’t want to move and you think you’d better turn your phone on, and of course it rings immediately, some horrid Samsung choice of ringer when other people with iPhones get to choose really neat rings like the GoT theme song, or even Knight Rider, remember that?
So it’s raining, nicely breezy and cool, and I have company for the rest of the weekend. Everyone else is at a soccer tournament in Denver.
A stream of consciousness, for sure, actually more like a FLOOD! Whatever, have a good day and a better one tomorrow. 🙂🙃👍🏻🌷
She swept in, white gauze dress flowing around her tanned body. More than one interested young man noticed the beauty that entered the bar.
Sand fell from her feet but no one seemed to mind. The afternoon was hot and most of the hotel guests had taken a break from the sun and gone inside. She walked up to the counter and the bartender asked her peference. “Nantucket breeze” she ordered.
He smiled a knowing grin, as she always had the same thing, every afternoon the past week. He fixed the drink in a slow manner, hardly taking his eyes off her, thinking “some days it does pay to get out of bed…” Bartending can be a dull job, especially at a resort like this one. It was only a few customers that made it worthwhile and she was one of them.
