Putting My Feet in the Dirt 8

It was a birthday present since she was born in February. A gift for the soon to be princess of Thelandoffantasy. It was a village in a far off country known only to the folk of large imaginations. It always had beautiful moonlit nights, sun filled days and rainbows appeared with no rain.

Fantastic creatures were seen such as unicorns, fairies, and even a centaur or three. Everyone consumed whatever they chose in food or drink and remained as beautiful as their sixteenth year.

On this day the prince of the land, because there were no nasty kings, was to be wed to the lovely beauty named Snowbellecindy, daughter of the next village, Foreverfantasydreamtown.

The teardrop necklace was chosen not only for her birth month but matched the color of her eyes, and was named the Amethyst Tears.

It was her first day of high school. Her long strawberry blonde hair pulled back from her face in braids and a blue shirt with jeans. The medium blue of the shirt drew attention to her large beautiful blue eyes.

It was a country school, no fashion statements were made by the students. It was a “wear jeans for everything” type of small town and still is to this day. She was a shy girl, a soccer and basketball athlete, well rounded by a library of pored over, well read books, and skilled in sewing and quilting as well.

Being shy did not masque her confidence however, and she could stand her ground with the best of them. The fact she grew up on a ranch with tending and caring for animals and a loving large family only rounded out her personality.

She entered the first classroom with strength given to her by this atmosphere.

Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction – The Yellow Tent

The nonagerian stared at the bright yellow tarpaulin. It stood out like a sore thumb. The garden was meant to blend into the neighborhood. The very idea of it being close to retirement housing was disliked by its occupants.

If garden paraphernalia didn’t stand out from the natural environment, it was somewhat tolerated, and community gardens were for the disadvantaged. But having them close to her pristine abode made her nervous as to their comings and goings while not working in the garden.

The audacity of the yellow tent was absolutely shocking! She closed the shades with a thump.

MLMM Wordle #206

The screenwriter’s career, no longer revitalized by ancient hero stories since most movie age patrons preferred to sit at home with video games portraying those characters themselves. The opinion of misguided critics were the last straw down the road to scatter unflattering opinions of his life’s work. Atemporal films were not much in demand, and even though he was also well rounded in the fantasy genre, his knowledge of science fiction was no longer relevant.

He felt like a lopsided locomotive, trying to stay on the tracks to success, but always leaning to the dangerous death of failure.

Monday Movie

Late again….outside activities result in my posts being fewer this week. Think of it as a needed vacation from my scribbles.

The choice is one that’s so sad it is hard for me to watch, but I did, this week: “Braveheart”. Since the ancestry site is researched by my sister, I am ashamed to say we are related to the most evil king Longshanks. Forgive me.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 7

One lonely lantern sat on the porch

Sitting quiet after a long night

His candle was melted

The dawn of the sun didn’t need him but last night he was brave

That was his job, being the watcher on the porch

A light for saying no evil darkness may threaten here

Monsters beware, wildlings scatter

This is my home, only the true and good may enter.

Later in the day as thunder and dark clouds interrupt the sunlight he will be asked to serve again with a newly made candle standing upright and lighted.

The child within will feel no fear as her protector shines bright.
