It was all a misunderstanding. She never meant for anything to actually disappear, it was a mistake! Dressing up like a witch was Julie’s way of showing her independence. The rest of the villagers could wear those drab colonial outfits, but she wanted to stand out and make her presence known.

Julie’s parents didn’t know how to handle their twelve year old daughter. They were just looking forward to her thirteenth birthday when she would be married off to be someone else’s problem like her sisters before her. Of course, Julie had no plans to marry. She thought dressing up as a witch would scare off any possible suitors.

Only hearing stories handed down in adult conversations, Julie imagined that witches had powers. She wanted power. She needed the strength of it to leave her parents and this village. She secretly practiced spells on the cat. This day she made up a few words, waved her twig of a wand and pointed at the cat. Poof!

Julie’s family removed the witch clothing and hung the hat in the yard. Poor Julie was doomed from that day on. Justice not served.

FFF #4 – Foolish Incantations

I see you there, no need to hide. I knew you were always around, somewhere close. Are you here to mock me, remind me of his absence? No matter how I tried to fill the gap you left behind, you were always there. Now that he is gone too, I thought you’d be together, wherever that is.

**WP acting up, so apologies for any errors, dang blizzard!😂

FOWC: Wifi

Blizzard conditions

Ice and snow

Going nowhere

Everything’s closed

It is winter, should be prepared

Everything stocked, warnings aired

Cabin fever, tempers flared

Schools are closed

Dogs warm nosed

Satellite out, so no tv

Wifi is the choice for me

iPad is working still

Writing, my time will fill

It’s temporary, it won’t last

This weather will soon pass

Then you ask, faking obtuse

After this, what’s your excuse?

Sometimes a life of leisure

Isn’t the imagined treasure.

Genre Challenge 9

I admit it, I was needy. It had been a daunting experience, stretching my faith to its limits, and I was looking for an opening, a solution–anything to draw me into the light. It wasn’t as if my actions were dangerous, and honestly, I didn’t really care at the time. As I said, I was needy.

It started innocently enough, a phrase here and there, often with an expectant innuendo. I knew what I was doing, at least I thought I did. Loneliness can masquerade itself, and in my case, as bravado. I told myself, it’s okay to flirt with him, pushing the envelope into a desperate twist of affection.

Of course, as all things of dreams and fantasy, it lasted a short while, and ended with some sadness, although no regrets. I often think of him, the rare smile, the wanton look in his eyes, and the words. . .it was the words–whispers in that beloved accent, that entangled me.

MLMM Photo Challenge – Places to Go!

Jerry and Joe were so excited; here they were, on their way to new adventures, new sites to see and it all lay before them. “I’m not sure which way to go, left or right?”

“Me either! Let’s go down the middle just for laughs!”

The two pushed harder on the gas and zoomed into the unknown. Two young college grads with nothing but diplomas, one hundred dollars in their pockets from graduation, and an inquisitive eye on the future.

“Life After Death” by Damien Echols

“myself back into the hospital. Unfortu-” nately, that meant Lou would be constantly at my side. Until I could be out of there I had to succumb to his endless dribble. My only salvation was the daily visit from Doctor Jones. He was my ruin and salvation all in one. Constant traveling to foreign lands, with deserts, jungles, secret treasures, lost antiquities, all required strength which sadly I no longer had. Lou had warned me, but the pull of danger and adventure drew me instantly to the archaeologist.

It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

He was there, waiting. As the freezing rain pelted his fedora, he could only wish this was the one. She said the 10:20, but he met every train that night, just in case. He never thought she’d risk everything like this. As the engine roared to a stop, his heart started pounding.
