Story Starter 9 – “Look what the cat dragged in”

Oh I love having my ears rubbed, don’t you, Tabby?

Not really, Spot. I’m not a hands-on type of person.

You’ve got to be kidding! You don’t like to be petted?

Nope, nada, niet.

I can’t wait to go out to run in the yard. Coming?

I’d rather stalk than run, but enjoy yourself.

Later that morning, a dirty bone and a dead bird lay in the doorway. Spot snoozing on the sidewalk and Tabby licking her paws.

Genre Challenge 8 – Cowpoke Chat

Sure is a regal view, ain’t it Pete?

Regal? Since when are you usin’ them words? What’s that mean?

Well I wasn’t goin’ to say anythin’, but I’m seein’ someone. I’ve been missin Maddie so much, I been down to the saloon every night.

You? One of them dancehall girls? You know they ain’t no good, prolly been with every cowpoke in there at least once.

Them’s fightin’ words, Pete! I really cotton to her. Sounds funny, but we spend time just talkin’, like me and Maddie.

You payin’ to talk? You crazy? We talkin’ right now! Guessin’ you owe me a dollar, heh, heh.

It gets real lonely out here in these parts, Pete.

Just a house with sparsely spaced continents;

What we call countries mark our different but

Intricately designed rooms, some of which are divided

By an ambitious swimming pool.

Easy to forget we are all connected

Till you remember we rely on the same light;

Probably a good thing that the orb of light

Is within sight, and not within reach,

You just know some eager fellow

Would’ve already tried to claim it as their own.

And guess what? Those that play the part of our parents?

Those that claim to run governments, in our best interests?

Making rules behind their lavish podiums?

Do more when fattening their pockets with that Charles Darrow currency.

This is why I chuckle when they think I am, at all, interested in what they have

No, you delusional pieces of unintelligible refuse

Bonus movie

“Die Hard” – original with favorite villian, Snapes himself, in his early days – I miss him! Bruce Willis, as his “McClane” best, although I like the sequels as well. Funny lines, inept police captain and action of course. This is the first one, made in 1988 – Warning, video rated R.

MLMM Sunday Writing Prompt 3-10-19 -All in the Title

Mr. and Mrs. Deadtree loved their daughter Marie without question, but they were constantly worried. They thought of her as The Girl With the Cast Iron Smile, never letting her true feelings show. Surprised The First Day Marie seemed Suddenly In Love with someone, but they were encouraged.

As plans were constantly delayed, their daughter seemed to have Invisible Roommates as trying to meet her friends was a Hollow Entreaty. They were also anxious to meet her beau, but her sudden happiness seemed to disappear like Light Interrupted in an otherwise dark day. It was A Distant Hum on The Other Side of Nothing as they realized it was a temporary pause in the Dark Days: Biography of a Self-Possessed Cynic, a sad memoir of their daughter’s life.

Story Starter 8

“I smell Cheetos”, Randy complained as the three teens watched the movie.

“Of course you do, Randy. It’s Pete. . .again. I think the zenith of his snacking capabilities starts and ends with cheese. I’ve never seen him dip a vegetable much less a cracker!” Jack fumbles in the large tub of buttered popcorn, smacking away.

Pete replies, “Did it ever occur to you guys that some people prefer cheese breath to popcorn breath?”

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 9 and 10

Pandemonium of a new kind, bristly but sensible

***

It was that kind of day. Joe woke up in a bad mood, the time change made him dread a longer day at the market. Today was “five dollar all you can eat” at the market’s salad bar, or pandemonium of a new kind as Joe called it.

Every Tom, Dick and Henrietta took advantage of this day’s offerings and trying to keep up with the refills was madness! It was the ridiculous idea of upper management of course, trying to get more customers for groceries, but it ended up being a free for all for the employees. Trying to ignore some individuals filling their pockets with pastries and baked goods made him wonder about society as a whole.

All of the employees including Joe, hated these Sundays. Nonetheless, they acted bristly but sensible considering they all needed their jobs and enjoyed working at the market during the week. Sundays were just miserable.
