This week it’s back to nonsense. Your task is to write a story in which you describe your meaning of the word woklecockle. It’s a noun so it probably needs to be the name of a person, place or thing.

Go have fun and be creative as I look forward to reading your thoughts on this word.

A to Z – P for Peas

Fresh green peas that is, preferably picked from the garden. Sitting on the porch with a pail of peas to shuck, resembled berry picking. Half went into the bowl and half into my mouth.

When I lived in Texas if you said peas it was always black eyed peas they thought I meant. The green ones were called English peas. In New England if there were black eyed peas we called them beans.

A favorite dish I haven’t had since I left NE, is creamed new potatoes, little ones, also straight out of the ground and fresh peas. If you’re lucky enough to grow these two delights, you might try this dish. Creamy white sauce consisting of butter, milk or cream, salt and pepper, flour, all mixed to a desired thickness, poured over and mixed in to fresh peas and new boiled potatoes.

A to Z Challenge – O for Oldness / FOWC:Anecdote

I had to laugh this morning, at myself, naturally, who else do I have to blame? That’s one of those things about living by yourself, no one else around to blame! I am spending the day with my daughter and kids. That means I take the big backpack to keep in the car for emergencies and carry my wallet for money, etc. . . a tiny wallet!

I’ve been having allergy problems with eye makeup so I rarely wear any makeup at home. Today I wanted to wear some. “Picture it” as Sophia used to say, old morning eyes and inept hands putting on the new gel eyeliner I purchased. Getting the stick out of the packaging took a few seconds, but then the end cap wouldn’t come off. I finally twisted it and off it came along with the nicely defined tip. I am sitting there thinking, well that’s another waste of money.

I took the wrap out of the trash to read directions to see if it could be resharpened, so did that. Now I have half a pencil in old hands. I was a bit excited thinking I might not be allergic to this one and got out the 3x mirror to apply. Old eyelids don’t care if you want to look better and do not cooperate. After one too thick line applied I had to remove it and of course it’s a 12 hour waterproof type so by the time I was done I looked like a raccoon that needed sleep. I waited a while for my skin to calm down and reapplied a small line, thank heavens for Q-tips!

Then went out to dress etc, came back into the bathroom to brush my hair and see dabs of brown on the tile floor. Apparently the lopped off bit of brown eye gel liner flew on the floor and I rolled through it get the Q-tips. I thought, omg, that looks like—-! So then I had to clean the floor, wheels, etc just in case I had a sudden heart attack and 911 came. My mother would be proud–at least I would have had on clean underwear.

Haunted Wordsmith Genre Challenge 4-16-19

“It’s prime numbers you need for the right sequence. Relinquish the device. It’s highly illogical this panel leads anywhere!”

Mike reluctantly handed over the device. The old pointy eared man was probably right. Everything Mike did had gotten them into this mess; maybe the old guy could get them out.

“Computers make excellent and efficient servants, but I have no wish to serve under them.” Mike had to admit the old guy had a point, especially now, but the numbered panel seemed to be their only means of escape.

“We never should have taken your ferry from Neptune. I told you guys it was too dangerous! That 3D metal printer you used, a huge waste of time. A day on the Hollideck, c’mon, it’ll be fun! Sure. . .now look where we are, stuck in Saturn’s rings!” Joe was always the “I told you so type of guy.” For a young man with three degrees in computer science, he disliked the old man’s ways just like the rest of them.

“It was your outlandish suggestions that got us into this, Mike, now what’s going to get us out?” Joe was watching the door behind them, his weapon ready. A terrible pounding began at the door. It seemed to start caving in on their side. “Hurry up old man, we’re about to be toast!”

At this time a tentacle like arm slid under the door, grabbing Joe’s leg. It slipped under and then once on Joe’s side, it ballooned and yanked his body against the door. Another tentacle came through and even as Joe shot it several times the laser didn’t seem to harm it. The old scientist furiously pushed numbers on the small device and the dark blue panel started to open. Mike screamed as the second tentacle started squeezing his leg. The old man grabbed Mike and pulled him through the wall panel, while Joe was shooting, and trying to push back against the door so more tentacles wouldn’t come through.

The blue opening started to close just as Joe freed himself. Mike pulled his friend through the panel just in time. Inside the safety of the blue paneled door, the three scientists realized they were not at all safe. Above and all around were ancient signs depicting tentacled creatures. It was then they noticed human skeletons at their sides, with still intact devices similar to the one they were using. No matter of scientific knowledge or technical devices could save them now.

MLMM Photo Challenge #259

The scene was exactly as expected. She looked down to see the look of wonder on her son’s face. He too was realizing a dream come true. His mother hoped this would be the answer, a reason to go on. She had written her uncle who lived by himself here and asked if they could visit.

It was a few months earlier that Marion and her son, Tom had lost the love of their lives, husband and father, Jack. A freak accident at his work and a sudden death to deal with. Being so young, thinking their lives were starting so well–their marriage, a son, a good paying job, everything falling into place. The factory was not a dangerous place to work these days with every machine automatic, but safety was often a second thought because machines are not supposed to make mistakes.

The news was almost overwhelming for Marion and her son, who was still young enough not to realize he would never see his father again. As the weeks wore on Tom became more despondent. Marion thought this trip to her uncle would be respite for them both. Her idea came as she was looking at an old photo album and showed Tom the picture of her uncle’s home.

Tom picked a few flowers and then ran down the hill. Marion saw her uncle come out to greet them. She finally felt some relief when she saw him, knowing she had made the right decision.
