100 Word Wednesday

“Can you wait? I’m so excited, I can’t wait!”

“See those guys coming toward us? They might be with the band!” The two girls were going to their first concert without their older brothers. With no adults to curb their behavior, were feeling free and anxious.

The line started to move forward and they shuffled along with it. As the two young men neared they became more excited, thinking they stood out from the crowd, which they did. The two felt faint when the young men closed in.

The men opened their coats showing police badges. “Show us your IDs”.

One Liner Wednesday

I’m my own worst enemy.

“In reality, being your own worst enemy is just another way of shouting out to the universe:  I didn’t make this, so I shouldn’t have to control or change it.  I didn’t choose this, so I shouldn’t have to undo it.” http://www.bustle.com

Write Anything Wednesday

Compassion might not be a word you would use when speaking of teenagers, but I will.  There are many very young people who are full of compassion, love, and respect, but we don’t hear about them.  As in most news articles, errant behavior gets the headlines.

I was eating lunch at a Denny’s type restaurant with my seventeen year old grandson…..you know the one…. my chauffeur, wheelchair racing, loud exhaust car, soccer playing, percussion playing, often texting, drummer one?  The one who takes me to the movies, shopping, etc?  We were eating lunch and talking when he was suddenly quiet, so I asked him what the matter was and he nodded in the direction of an elderly lady eating by herself.  I asked what?  He said it was sad–eating all by herself.  I asked, trying to keep it light, as I usually do, want to ask her to join us?  He answered no.  But this gave me another insight to his unselfish caring for others, compassion.

Picture Prompt – 148

What I see here is beauty –

This cave with thick wet brown floor

Walls of damp green softness

If touched would feel like velvet.

Pools of reflected light

And soft leaved branches.

This is natural beauty.

Looking beyond this enclosure

Are hues of sandy water

Greenish blue plates of salty seas

And an orb shaped chunk of stone and earth.

These objets d’art are some of nature’s finest

All enveloped by a pale blue sky.

Wheelchair War

A weapon you say?

When pushed in a chair

With no control

Hang on tight

Or you might be air-

Borne like a rocket

If hands in a pocket

Instead of gripping

To the sides if

Forward you’re tipping.

They think it’s all fun

Fill your lap with stuff

Then start to run

Till I say “Enough!”

I’m holding the bags

Hands not gripped

So out of the chair

I could have slipped.

It’s all in fun is their input

If I fly out from the catapult.

JK, They are very careful with me…….🙄🤠😂

Liebster Award

I am impressed, can you tell?  Surprised hardly covers it, but I thank Rob at https://robertmgoldstein.com for nominating me for this award. His blog is always interesting, informative and his art and photography great.  He has “lots to say about lots of things”, so give him a read.  You won’t be disappointed!

1.  I am a redhead and a Virgo, so don’t be surprised at anything I do or say.

2.  My family comes first in my life.

3.  I have lived in vastly different parts of the states and loved them all for different reasons.

4.  My favorite flavor is maple.

5.  I eat nothing buggy looking.

6.  Autumn is my favorite time of year.

7.  I am patriotic, proud to be an American, even now.

8.  My father grew up in the wild west.

9.  My mother drove a horse and buggy to teach school.

10. I have three older sisters.

11. I have worked at two different Wal-mart stores, TX and CO.

Now that’s out of the way, whew!  Now for the easy part, 11 answers to Rob’s questions:

1.  My favorite age was probably around thirty-seven.  I had a full time job I liked, kids in high school, and  healthy.

2.  My most prized possession, that’s a hard one.  I suppose my wedding ring? Material things aren’t my specialty.

3.  I prefer my eggs scrambled and not runny!

4.  I don’t have a favorite author right now, but I have loved Daphne DuMaurier best over the years.

5.  I don’t dance and was not good at it when I could, except in high school.

6.  My current favorite quote heads my blog, “the secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on the old, but on building the new” Socrates

7.  My favorite word?  Keeping this g-rated, I’d have to say, Cool. Not necessarily mind blowing, but I seem to use it a lot!

8.  Ocean or mountains?  No hard decision here, definitely the mountains.

9.  My greatest accomplishment?  I’ve had a few mini ones, but my children and their success and happiness I’ll steal some credit for.

10.  I have a lot of favorite actors because I’m a movie fan, but choosing one?  It’s between Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.  But seriously, I find it hard to pick only a few.  And that’s just the men!😊

11.  I do not sing well.  I found that out when singing in the car and the radio suddenly blared!😂

Nominating eleven blogs is a difficult thing to do and at first I thought I can’t do it, that anyone taking the time to read all this would be among my  choices, but then I thought, well I wouldn’t be writing this if Rob didn’t choose me. Thank you, Rob, I appreciate your confidence.💓🌸  Here are some of the blogs I enjoy.  If you have an award free blog, why?  JK!  No worries….

Proud of Myself Badge Presentation, number???

I am elated to present this badge of honor again.  To be honest, he was getting a little lonely down there in my media section.  Congratulations Cyranny! at cyranny.wordpress.com, who came out of her cove and completed a dare I put to her.  She hugged a firefighter tonight and even had her picture taken with him!  Now that deserves applause!  Not only for stepping outside her comfort zone, but giving the first responders recognition they deserve but seldom receive.  Like the police, firefighters and 911 dispatchers are hardly recognized for their lifesaving skills. Proud of you Cyranny, and btw, you’re a cutie.💓🌸💗🌷

The Secret Keeper #90 – In the Library

The Secret Keeper – In the Library

I sat back in my overstuffed, favorite chair, reminiscing about my life. I had accomplished much in terms of wealth, but were the sacrifices worth it? I am still wondering that, thinking of how I could have been a better person all these years.  Now at seventy-five could I have been as satisfied, less lonely, and not as dedicated to my work? As I rested my head and closed my eyes in my personalized library, thoughts turned to my youth.

As a boy I had the usual dread every morning, before the rise of the sun. My alarm or a poke from my father, would alert me to the time. Timing even then was important in my young life, for I had a job, a paper route. Many, mostly friendly customers of mine didn’t protest if I was a bit late, but then there was old Mr. Brown, the last one on my circuit. Every morning, no matter what time, early or late, he’d be standing in his doorway, impatient look on his face, waiting for the news to be delivered.

When I think of it now, he was probably the best motivation I could have had at an impressionable age. I provided a valuable service which he paid for. It was my responsibility to deliver the paper on time, unharmed, and in a courteous manner. Unlike other boys in my group of friends, my job was year long. I didn’t mow lawns or shovel snow, I just ran papers around the neighborhood.

This sense of responsibility while remaining an actual “labor free” job, did much to urge me on to other similar vocations. I became an early riser out of habit and continued to be, as a professional editor. The newspaper delivery business was just a stepping stone bringing me into the view of actual newsmen, reporters and editors. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect and tried my hand at them all. I read voraciously while at college and spent hours in the library, either studying, or reading for pleasure.

After realizing editing was my best application, I researched even more on how to be the best. I was fortunate to receive life’s gifts after hard work and perseverance, finally owning my own publishing company. I am proud of my accomplishments.

I suddenly felt extremely tired, my daydreaming was coming to an end. I needed to get up and seek out my bed. As I tried to rise, I felt very light. I rose up and was shocked to see my body still seated. I felt dizzy, thought I might faint, when I realized I was being lifted, floating into the ceiling of the library. Except the ceiling was no longer there and my body in the chair was seeming further and further away. I felt incredibly light and carefree. Perhaps all the fantastical books I had read were actually true. I surely hope so.
