Okay, stop with those curt comments! Cut the paper the right size this time! And no tissue paper wrap over those dark game boxes, you can see right through. You know, Joe if I didn’t know better I’d think you hated the daily chores Christmas brings. The shopping, the decorating, the baking; it does seem a bit much I guess.
Oh my dear Evie, I would not dare court the idea of being a Scrooge with Christmas only ten days away. We’re almost done anyway. And when the whole family sits down together, it’s all worth it.

Shops around the corner
Is an old idea
In a village maybe
But in the city, not ideal.
Suburbs are the worst
Only malls to find your gifts
Crowded shops built side by side
To help avoid snow drifts.
I’m missing mom and pop shops
And grow a bit nostalgic
Like sugar plums and caramel pops
Not what today’s kids pick.
It’s either computer games or VR
It seems there’s lots of changes
Games and books are preferable to
Socks and sweaters that cause sad faces.
No matter what gifts you choose
Be careful not to lose
The meaning of the season
To give love without a reason.

17F and snowing here, the loud snowplows have been out since 6 a.m. My grandson is giving a speech at the Mayor’s Youth Council today at noon, followed by cookie decorating with children.
What’s worrying is a bus trip for granddaughter’s basketball to Laramie in these road conditions. Like Forrest said, “life is like a box. . .you never know what you’re gonna get”, which is true for Wyoming weather.

She decided the home could use something bright
Thought soft loving kitties would be just right
They went by the shelter, chose them with care
Had treats and beds and collars to spare
Only one thing that she didn’t think of, litter
The home supervisors were more than bitter
Rules of the home started to loom
You can’t just leave all these cats in these rooms
They’ll need litter boxes and disinfectant perfume!
They ran into a store just as Christmas Eve ended
Dawn and the kittens plus litter all descended
The staff of the home at first were not pleased
But the smiles of the residents gave them ease.
