Lumberjack Contest

The lumberjack competitors started to disperse, quickly fighting through squads of onlookers to join their favorite event. The log float contest outcome depended on the river’s current and even the most unctuous of competitors didn’t look ahead with confidence to the outcome. However, the crowd would never tire of seeing the swarthy contestants knocked off their rolling feet, doused. Many layers of thick wood were bonded on the targets for the contest of axe throwing. The lumberjacks yelled “yeet” as they threw, meaning to add accuracy to their powerful arm strength.

Eugi’s Weekly Prompt: Gratitude

With gratitude to all who follow

Read, write with words she presents

Her own efforts never hollow

With no criticism or descent.

These people who present the prompts

Accepting all, is what everyone wants

The acknowledgement she provides

Enables submissions given with pride.

Word of the Day: Jubilee

This is no time for a jubilee, or celebration. It is a time of sadness and despair. Watching the NYPD in their cars, mowing down protestors, is one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve seen today.

Jackie Robinson quote:

I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me… All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.

FOWC: Thief

It didn’t come in under dark of night

It was always there, hiding from light

Under the rocks, buried in caves

Once fought by knights or knaves

Freedom, conscience, truth, are now travesty

All stolen by our leader’s dishonesty

The fruits of his labors now are sealed

A thief of civility now revealed.

The Sunday Whirl 5-31-20

Through the thick smoke of the singed egg dish, she sipped the frothy fresh orange juice. The cottage was filled with the acrid touch of burned breakfast but the juice was a lift she needed this day. She could only hope the decimated kitchen would be her lover’s final straw and he would leave.

An order from her mother, “learn to cook before he leaves you” resonated in her thoughts as she added a bit of whiskey to her fruity drink. How dare she say something like that to me, she thought. What an old fashioned idea. I am not the barefoot and pregnant type and now maybe they will both realize that. Margo sat in her now empty house and started to breathe in freedom.
