SoCS July 18, 2020 – Links

Links, can’t live with them, can’t live without them. Unless you’re a hermit, living in a cave, you are linked. Linked to email, to location, to every address you’ve ever lived, link to every credit card you ever held, your bank accounts, your health information, link to your contacts–real or not, LINKS!

As you can see I do not like having my whole life linked. I have lived a while so my links are many. Every time I push a button, strike a key–even here on the blog, I am linked to some huge system. I cannot use the phone, sign a paper, or pay a bill without some autonomous “thing” somewhere recording it, putting it in some obscure file, and using it when it suits them. If you question this use of your information you are surely put on another list somewhere and labeled.

Saturday morning should be a good day, free time to enjoy your life. Not today.

Fandango’s Friday Flashback from 2017

MLMM Saturday Mix – The Wheel – July 15, 2017

***

For appearances sake, I am the typical family man, with 2.5 children, a nice, but modest home, and a good job. These were not easily won treasures, although my wife might describe it differently. My wife is the one who keeps me focused, on track you might say. The track is well known to many as a wheel, an endless wheel of life. It needs men like me to keep rolling. Men like me.

I suppose the start of every man’s introduction to the wheel begins around the age of sixteen, when obligatory feelings arise of seeking employment other than mowing the lawn. Graduation, college, and then the wheel gains power.

I was initially eager to jump on the wheel. I met a woman who made me feel all powerful, and I constantly proved this by maintaining our lifestyle, fathering children, and providing the typical “husband of the year” profile. My wife could be heard exclaiming my many achievements to her friends at social gatherings. My children would defend me to their schoolmates if needed. By all accounts, I am the perfect man in the perfect position and take my place on the wheel with pride.

But I am not that man. As I started this confession of sorts, I said in the beginning, it is for appearances. Underneath the facade, I am tired. I want to stop the wheel and get off. I need to start over, at sixteen, with dreams intact.

3TC – Poultry Crime

It wasn’t the chickens

It was the eggs

Counting them, we cheated a bit

I stuffed only two in my pocket for later

To eat with some bacon and fried potater

Our boss doesn’t let us eat on the job

After working all day we’re a hungry mob

Late at night is when we can dine

Figure we’re owed a few eggs as a fine

He hasn’t suspected in my time

And we don’t think of it as a crime

Maybe some day he’ll let us eat dinner

Otherwise the egg crop is bound to get thinner.

dVerse Poets – I Am an Autumn Maple

Please, sit down, I don’t mind. In fact just get comfortable, lean against my trunk. Yes, it is a bit rough, but that’s the beauty, isn’t it? A large tree like me needs a strong base to hold up my arms. My arms, so many varied sizes and lengths, decorated with various jeweled colored leaves–honestly, I am a massive work of art. And when the snow comes, I spread these arms of mine, stretch them thin to enjoy the white joy of that season. I may take a nap or two during this time till spring suns wake me. But for now, sit back and dream, enjoy the autumn splendor that I am.

MLMM Tale Weaver 7-16-20

It’s difficult to think of the state of the world in crisis as a blessing. But maybe it is, maybe it is a wake up call to us. The earth seems to be revolting in climate because of how we foolishly and selfishly pollute it. People are now up in arms because so few follow the golden rule to treat others as they wish to be treated. Wars rage on with no accountability, inhumanity flourishes, plague spreads, and some think this can all be solved by hateful acts of violence and self important so-called righteous actions. Will we wake up, take stock of what we’ve done and how we came to this? Is there hope? Maybe there is, maybe we will realize we need to change, maybe it could possibly be a blessing.

FOWC: Nearly

Sometimes my sense of humor doesn’t jive with others. An example of that is the post I put on yesterday with a clip from a well known movie with Monty Python. MP is one of those “you either love them or hate them” groups, but we have always loved them.

The night before with no sleep and after rising, coffee and shower, much better. So as ever, a line just pops into my head and I share it.

Then last night not sleeping again, thought, that was probably an insensitive clip considering the news every day. So my apologies to anyone offended.

I nearly always find myself struggling with appropriateness while trying to bring humor, but it isn’t the first time, won’t be the last, I’m sure.
