MLMM Saturday Mix

Welcome to the Saturday Mix, 5 March 2022!

The ‘Double Take’ challenge focuses on the use of homophones* to build your writing piece. You have two sets of homophones and you are challenged to use all of them in your response – which can be poetry or prose.

Our homophone sets this week are:

fairing – streamlining
faring– state of progress

and

lends – allows to borrow
lens– convex glass

A monarch’s brilliant coloring tells predators: “Don’t eat me. I’m poisonous.” The butterflies get their toxins from a plant called milkweed, which is their only food source in the caterpillar stage.

Fairing the image into an acceptable lens, she clicked the shutter a few times to make sure the faring of shots showed the slight movements distinctly. Photographing butterflies was only a hobby of hers and lends itself to frustration at times. Such fleeting beauty is difficult to capture.

Fandango’s Flashback Friday 3-4-18

MLMM Tale Weaver 161 – Badlands National Park, South Dakota

Not exactly a Tale weaved here, but traveling here was a wonderful experience for my family when the kids were small. My dad grew up around here in South Dakota, Wyoming Montana and Idaho.

Located 50 miles east of Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills, Badlands National Park consists of 244,000 acres of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles and spires blended with the largest, protected mixed grass prairie in the United States.

The Lakota people were the first to call this place “mako sica” or “land bad.” Extreme temperatures, lack of water, and the exposed rugged terrain led to this name. In the early 1900’s, French-Canadian fur trappers called it “les mauvais terres pour traverse,” or “bad lands to travel through.”Apr 10, 2015

For badlands to form, the land must be composed of alternating layers of hard and soft rocks and soil. When easily eroded material, such as clay or mud stone, is topped by more resistant material, such as sandstone, the harder horizontal layers offer some protection to the beds of soft deposits below.

Basketball Regionals have been on the agenda all week and I’ve seen some amazing moves by the players. Naturally my favorite player is my freshman granddaughter who plays in Freshman, Sophomore, JV and Varsity games. Since she has watched her six siblings’ who have played, she knows what she’s doing😄

One Liner Wednesday – Snacks

Feeling hungry I make quick tracks

Open the fridge looking for snacks

Preferring cheese cubes or fruit of some kind

Finding none I turn around behind

And open the dry goods cupboard low

Where all the salty things are stowed

Finding apparently I’m all out,

I fix an espresso till I fill the drought

It works for the most part and calories less

But salty cravings do cause some stress.
