Sizzle

As the temperature rises to 28 degrees Fahrenheit, it’s difficult to imagine anyone sizzling in the sand on a beach somewhere. I tried finding the warmest place on planet earth with varying results…certainly never here😀

The Terrible Poetry Contest

***

Here, then, are the specifics for this week:

  1. Joanne Fisher won the crown last time round; she’s suggested a Theme of what one might find in one’s pocket. The form? A tanka.
Tanka poems are not difficult. The master, of course, is Colleen Chesebro, mother of Tanka Tuesday. Like haiku, there are syllables involved. The pattern for a tanka is 5-7-5-7-7. “Tanka consist of 5 lines written in the first-person point of view from the perspective of the poet” (more information, below).
  2. The Length is five lines.
  3. A tanka does not rhyme.
  4. Ah; just make it terrible!Cause Gollum to regret he ever asked what was in there -even for the chance of some nice, juicy poet-meat.
  5. Rating: PG or cleaner. I don’t know what you keep in your pockets, but I’m betting it’s no edgier than lint or a cell phone these days.

REVENGE

standing with that look
satisfaction of a kook
made her pay the fine
for another’s love sublime
relax, he’ll get his in time

I know it’s not supposed to rhyme, therefore a terrible tanka☺️

MLMM Wordle – Operator?

***

Joe started to grumble, tightening his grip on the subpar mobile phone that never executed an internet speed of more than most common cheap cels. He bought it with the promise of a new 5G capability, even in this backwards area. It was his only link to civilization at the moment and his car was out of gas.

He sat back down in the cabin’s porch rocker, and watched the shadows in the surrounding woody area. The cry of some animal he didn’t recognize was getting closer. The only help he had was a sharp pocket knife he always carried in case of emergencies. He hoped this wasn’t going to be one of them.

Cheerleading

Joe, a precise English professor and parent, decided to enhance his usual orderly venacular with gusto…hollering, “get them suckers!” at his son’s high school football game.

Word of the Day: Occasion

Reminiscing about the early days of radio, Joe said, “yessireebob, it was quite an occasion! There were people running around in pointy foil hats, constantly looking up to the heavens…as if, you know, anyone had actually seeeeen anything”, he chuckled.

“Even Pastor Joe held nightly prayer meetings hoping to dispel the evil aliens that were rumored to be on their way to invade earth. Of course the local stores were happy to supply multiple provisions just in case it was true.

Yup, it was quite an exciting time! Same thing happened years later when the “Close Encounters” movie came out. Lordy be, people will believe anything!” smiling knowingly.

Six Sentence Story – Canvas

Surveying the messy table full of artists’ brushes, he winced.

Was this worth it?

The mess, the angst, the disappointment?

Only to garner a few shillings on the street?

He stood once again in front of the incomplete canvas.

He picked up the palette, and his favorite wide brush, thinking “you betcha!”

The Sunday Whirl

The white corridor lay before me. The last refugee of warm air escaped in foggy breaths. My distant target seemed like millions of moguls away and I could hear the crack of my previous attempt the year before, when I broke my femur. A few lodge staff of the ski resort had fled to my side to see if I was alive. Gadgets to carry the winter wonderland victims were assembled and I was carried into the medical unit. I was soon added to the list to track losses of customers. However, I returned, determined to tackle the black ski slope once more—probably a bad decision.
