Simply Six Minutes

Today’s prompt is:https://youtu.be/sNlgLSRZaos This video shows you the optical illusion

the ambassadors optical illusion
“The Ambassadors,” this painting was finished in 1533 by German artist Hans Holbein the Younger.

When you look at the painting head-on, you’ll see what appears to be a large, deformed object at the bottom. But when viewed from a particular angle, the blob turns into a human skull before your eyes.

“Are we all set for you?” Thomas (on the left) spoke to the artist who was going to paint a portrait of the brothers.

“Yes, fine, just try to hold your positions while I sketch the beginning of placement. Are you sure you want that item placed in front of you? No one will know what it is.”

“Certainly! It’s proof that our our new business, traveling through time, requiring a time travel permit and we are the exclusive vendors.”

“Time travel? So this painting will be your commercial, so to speak?”

“Definitely. What you see is a skateboard, a definitive item of twentieth century culture. It is very popular with young people and that is our target market.”

JuJoJa 10

It’s another prompt of the day! Today is your tenth prompt for Just Jot it January 2023, and it’s brought to you by Maggie. Thank you, Maggie! Please be sure to visit Maggie’s blog to read her post and say hello. And follow her while you’re there, if you’re not already.
Your prompt for JusJoJan January 10th 2023, is “periwinkle.” Use the word “periwinkle” any way you’d like. Have fun!

I took this opportunity to read about the lowly periwinkle and they are quite prevalent creatures! I stopped at the part about how to prepare and eat them…no thanks.

“They are nonnative (meaning they aren’t originally from here). They were brought over from Western Europe to be used as escargot (cooked snail). In other words, they were brought here to be eaten. Some people think they might be invasive (a nonnative that has a negative effect on the local environment) and compete with native periwinkle snails for food and space. The tentacles on their head are sensory organs that are used to see and taste. They have a strong muscular foot (which is the main part of the body that we see outside of the shell) that helps them to slide along the ground and to hold on tight to the rocks when the waves are crashing on them. Periwinkles cannot swim, but they can breathe underwater. They are herbivores (animals that eat plants).” National Park Service http://www.nps.gov

dVerse Poets Quadrille

It’s 2023’s first Quadrille Monday – when we write poems of exactly 44 words, including one word we here at dVerse provide. Bold

***

One thing I’ve noticed as I’m getting old

I no longer fear being too bold

Astonished or amazed with every word

From critics or praisers—many I’ve heard

Boldly referring to people they’ve met

All useless pieces of trivia

Which constantly flow from their head.

Joe’s morning was not going as well as he’d hoped. Taking a skeptical look at himself in the mirror he instantly thought “I need a renovation—a tuck here, a lift there.” He had been so upset about his appearance he had chosen an alternative to surgery. He wagered a good bit of his fortune on youth gurus and followed their recommendations every day for six months, to such a degree that his wife thought he must be seeing another woman on the side. It occurred to him this morning that what propelled him to seek a lot of these health routines was to improve their relationship, not harm it and cause suspicion. How ironic, he thought, stepped away from his reflection and dressed for work.

Apology

The salt air stung her face as she searched among the dozens of shells scattered in the sand. Julie followed along the edge of the sea so familiar to her. She had made many trips over the years seeking beautiful seashells, but today was looking for a larger special one to make a pendant for her daughter. She hoped the gift would mollify her daughter’s feelings. Being a mother to a teenage girl was not always easy.

Castlemania

“Wow! What a champ! Mike slapped his friend on the back and laughs and chatter flowed around the room. Did you see how he handled the castle’s secret passage? That sneaky rat Jinksey thought he could cash in on his lead, but Joe reached the king first! Great job Joe!” Joe sat back in the video gaming chair and pushed the VR glasses up on his forehead. Finally a winner, he no longer wanted to scrap the game.
