The Haunted Wordsmith Finish the Story #11

I was tagged by http://crushedcaramel.wordpress.com to contribute a chapter in the following story. Thank you, and have a sensational time in Australia!

Here’s my part:

As she left the room, Adam opened the folder to see what he hoped would be there, an overseas assignment. He hadn’t traveled the earth much and if it was all going to hell, he wanted to see as much of it as he could. Adam thought he would make a good spy if that’s what it took, after all, he had seen all the James Bond movies, all the others he could find, but kept the fantasies to himself. Basic training was hardly a picnic, but if he could endure that and still be chosen for a special assignment, he was excited.

There were forms to fill out, many contract clauses calling for complete secrecy for any mission he completed. Adam signed quickly, felt no need to view “the fine print”. It was his naïveté and abilities that made him the perfect candidate. After filling out every paper, Adam returned to Doctor Bluebell’s office. “Right, then” as she took the folder, “now it’s time to meet the big guy.” Adam was wondering who the “big guy” was, thinking it was a Major or Colonel, and then laughed to himself as “M” came to mind. A huge door slowly cranked open and there he was…

MLMM Sunday Writing Prompt

“Take it away” I screamed at them. Sitting across from me, sitting there with their disapproving eyes, as if any answer I would give would be correct. They already decided I was crazy, and I was tired of these tests. What did any of them mean? Why ask to see these pictures over and over? Each time I say the same thing, the same answer and I’m tired of it. How many more days will they drag me here to be tested again?

I know I’m crazy, I know they’ll never see what I see. But it’s there every time, the fear, when they make me look at this one. It’s his face, looking at me with disdain, his tiny rimmed spectacles, his overly long mustache drooping over that hideous face. I see it enough, in my nightmares, I don’t want to see it again! They drag me from my comfortable soft room every week, only to force me once again to describe these images. When will it stop?

They finally took me back to my room, and I huddled under my soft mattress. Soon they’d bring my breakfast, always the same, but it was a distraction. Time is only from one meal to another, bedtime, and then the photo session, that’s how I keep track of time in weeks. I only know this because I overheard their “weekly session” introduction while taping my answers.

The orderly came, no breakfast today he said, but you have a visitor. Taken aback by no breakfast I thought I never should have screamed at them. I should have answered quietly as usual. I was taken down the hall to a room empty except for a man sitting at a table. He turned when I walked in and as my eyes adjusted to the brighter room, I saw him. This was no photo, this was him. I tried to run but the orderly took me to the table and made me sit down. “Hello, my daughter, you’re looking well..”

Every so often they let me travel

REBLOG: Jim shares thoughts I have myself.

You know what it is, every so often somebody leaves the door unbolted, and before they know it, I’m away.

Actually with me it’s more a case of every so often people remember me and ask me to come down to London for a meeting. Therefore my aim is to ensure that I attend the meetings and then get to view the finest sight in London. This is a Virgin Pendolino destined for Glasgow. Best viewed from the inside of Coach B as it pulls out of Euston.

Still I got to London and had to stay overnight, so got to mooch about and discover various things. One was Golden Turmeric Latte. Who ever knew it was even a thing? I confess to not actually trying it, the sign was outside a coffee shop rather more exclusive than I am. Still, it’s good to know that London, apparently the one…

The Photographer

Just one more my dear, please

The sinister words came with ease

Grotesque, though offered to appease

His captor as her death is seen

All the while the lens kept clicking

As her heart beat slowed its ticking

Magnified images he was thinking

As in her pain he was drinking

Just one more he pled again

As life drifted from her brain

His specialty, photographing pain

His clientele unknown remain.

What’s in a Name?

A writer of books, poetry and prose

He was very famous, heaven knows

The problem lies in interpretation

Or maybe lack of education

He wrote and wrote pages with glee

And though his works sold tremendously

His private thoughts were yet to be seen

Even now they remain ungleaned

The writer is quite at odds with himself

Keeping personal writings on the shelf

Until he felt the confidence of fame

Now hell breaks loose upon his name

His previous works were all a lie

Taken from another’s more masterful eye

And if it weren’t for a clever spy

With unwarranted fame, he would have died

His current efforts now discovered

Remain unread by previous lovers

Indeed his fame is now sullied

Former readers now feel bullied

Discovering the hero is just a faker

His published works now have no takers.
