FDDA#10

Burgers with cheese and a dill pickle

Hot fudge sundaes and lime popsicles

Tender pork chop or crispy bacon

Salads as long as I’m not the one making

Corn on the cob with butter and salt

Chocolate cream sodas or shakes with malt

Roasted beef with veggies a plenty

Dark chocolate patties with inside all minty

Hot dogs with mustard and relish

Cooked over a campfire to embellish

Rhubarb pie with no strawberries

Any soup hot, with grilled cheese

Maple cream fudge with lots of nuts

Spinach in salad or boiled with no fuss

I could go on and on til I’m dead

Now tell me your favorites instead.

Fandango’s Dog Days of August #10

Which do you choose?

I suppose you all think I’m crazy

No way a holiday on the beach being lazy

Is my idea of fun.

Running and jumping in waves is delightful

Snorkeling where fierce fish swim is just frightful

That is not for this one.

Sand gets in your lunch so it’s inedible

Sand up your swimsuit always inevitable

Asking again, is this fun?

***

Give me the mountains, cool and crisp

Where icy breath causes a lisp

My idea of a vacation wish.

Trees and grass and cold running streams

Rippling over rocks and rainbow trout seen

Fried up on a campfire, a tasty dish.

Later s’mores fudge filled graham treat

Made at the campfire all messy and sweet

Is my idea of making life rich.

MLMM Sunday Writing Prompt – Choosing Context

He noted the situation had become grim/concerning/chucklesome.

Not everyone enjoys a good joke as well as Joshua Pigbottom. In fact many late afternoons in the local pub brought gales of laughter for some and disgusting comments from others. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop Joshua from espousing every worn out comic reference till the lateness of the day sent most listeners home for supper.

Mr. Pigbottom was not that lucky. In fact the only “family” he had was the group of pub customers that gathered every afternoon. One neighbor only, Charlie, had tried to befriend Joshua, realizing his evening lights stayed on till morning, and his garden terribly overgrown. The neighbor had knocked on Joshua’s door many times receiving no answer. He noted the situation had become grim.

The neighbor’s day began after Joshua left for work. Charlie started trimming the grass, pulling weeds, and even planted a few bright flowers near Joshua’s entry door. As the day wore on, Charlie could hardly wait to see Joshua‘s reaction when he came home. He peeked out of his curtains to see Mr. Pigbottom turn into his yard.

Suddenly Joshua stopped still, observing the garden, and looked around to see if he was in the right place. Charlie was laughing behind his hiding place and then was surprised to see Joshua retrieve a handkerchief from his back pocket. As he dabbed his tears, Charlie came out of his home, went up to Joshua, and introduced himself.

Sunday Photo Fiction 8-9-20

Everything looked beautiful as she walked into the small street. “Everyone takes such lovely care of the area here,” she offered to no one, and kept walking. At the opposite end of the street she could see another person, possibly a tourist or student. Eyes down turned to their cell phone, as most people do these days. She thought he must be used to this beauty, never glancing up, even as she passed by. She wondered if he took it for granted–the colors and flowers surround and as she stepped into the cafe, glanced back and smiled.

Ballerina

Shifting her books to the backpack from her bed was a Wednesday chore. The classes on Wednesdays each required a textbook, and because there were no lockers, all had to be carried at once. The heaviness caused her to bend forward more than she naturally would, but she preferred to think of it as a really long stretch.

Maria had been dancing since she was able to walk. The daily sight of her twirling in the yard, flying over rocks and landing delicately in the grass was normal–all to meet the basic ballet standards required to move into more challenging classes. She never seemed to run out of gas and never complained of being sore from her efforts to improve. It was no surprise to see her accepted into a famous troupe, basking in the flash of concert lights and cameras.

Story time

Mathilde B Goode was an independent soul from the age of three. She realized at this ripe old age that she had to stand up for herself. It began when everyone except her immediate family constantly mispronounced her name without the “h”. Her small voice became louder and more so as she would repeat the correct pronunciation until they said it right. Then of course she became known as Goody, a taunt from other elementary students when they realized she was no ordinary seven year old who took no prisoners.

After enduring her school years, Mathilde excelled in college and received honors with her degrees. She was never satisfied until she had achieved two doctorates, one in English Literature and one in Communications. She was adamant in trying to better educational systems, and her success was yet to be achieved to her satisfaction.

It was a lonely life Mathilde lived, as she concentrated on educational goals and her dreams of improving communication skills in the coming generation. This was all about to change one afternoon as she entered yet another library in the city. Walking the aisle of modern literature, she noticed and was noticed by a man in his early thirties. They happened to reach for the same volume and the attraction began.

Tea for two in the library cafe was a weekly treat and many discussions about the loss of basic language skills in the school system. Both Mathilde and her new friend were determined to change things. As a result they co-found a new set of textbooks that were student friendly. Having completed one of her goals, it was an easy time for Mathilde to concentrate on something else for a time– romance.

Samson D Lightfull had a similar childhood background and the two blended together like sugar and cream. They spent their middle years together improving school education programs all through the US and retired feeling they had succeeded in their goals.

Mathilde and Samson had two children, Mary and Joe, not as extraordinary as their parents, but the family had the most important thing, love , and of course, a proper education.

A Warning

Lately I’ve been getting texts of all kinds – scam texts. They call me different names and I’ve blocked at least four different numbers a day from these texts.

One says my Netflix is going to be canceled if I don’t do…

one yesterday said my phone subscription would be canceled if I didn’t respond…

another said my medicare would be stopped if….

usually it’s just, hey we have your new iPhone, etc waiting if you…

But now it’s getting so annoying I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried blocker apps and they don’t work. I’ve blocked tracking, changed browsers, etc. I’m at my wit’s end!

Maybe you are aware and maybe you’re not, but don’t fall for these scammers. And if anyone knows how to get rid of them, please tell me.
