Leftovers from a rainbow’s end
Wishes spoken and answered
A feather near an autumn leaf
Colorful memories shown to send
The message–dreams do come true.

In these days of isolation
There is a compensation
Staying together as a family
Listening and learning how they be
No need to rush to some other place
Jumping here and there to race,
But tranquil bodies in this place
Sitting calm around a fireplace.

My daughter and family’s home has a gas firepit in their backyard and it is heavenly to sit around it at night.

“It’s nothing, I promise you,” he offered.
“No need to have that look of pity on your face, George. Your habit of looking at me like that makes me ashamed of who I am. On the inside, I’m just the same as everyone else!”

She said “my dear, looks like you’re having a spell”
After she said it, he promptly fell
It helped he was standing near a well
Where she pushed him in and now he dwells
In a deepened dank pit with her foregone swells.

First, I have never heard this word before and have to congratulate Cyranny for coming up with it! And I’m not telling where my mind went when I first read it. Turns out it is perfectly mild.😄

I boiled the water, was in a hurry
Company coming, had to scurry
Poured the hottest water from the tap
Burner set on high, kettle spout flapped
It was chilly, I wanted it hot
Knowing coffee would hit the spot
Opened the coffee tin, only a tittynope
Forgot to reorder, I’m such a dope!

Nine pm and the train whistle sounded low and longing again. Sitting in the porch swing, she remembered past days of summer nights when the neighborhood kids gathered to play kick the can in the street. The nine o’clock freight train whistle meant it was time to pack up and go home. She felt a comforting smile knowing her grandchildren kept the tradition.

Talk about a bummer, man
Look at him, that old man
Ratty clothes, dirty shoes
Obvious nothing more to lose
It’s all gone and we see a bum
We all walk past, feelings numb
You know what they always say-
Only one paycheck away!

Share a tune
Or a little ditty
Make the effort to better a day
Blues, classical,
Rock and roll
Guitar, trumpet or drums, yea!
Help to get you out of yourself
So take those old records off the shelf
Roll up the rug and polish the floor
Have a private sockhop and dance some more
No fun sitting around eating junk
Get up and wiggle around to some funk!
