Wyoming Wind Power Controversy

Complaints about the wind is prevalent here in Cheyenne. The USAF even uses it to test planes here. But could it be an answer we all need?

Casper Star Tribune:

“With fossil fuels, like coal, Wyoming sets aside some of money from taxes in a permanent mineral trust fund. The idea is that severing valuable products from Wyoming now robs future generations of those resources, so taxes compensate for that.

Wind should be similar, particular when everyone is talking about economic diversification as fossil fuels face uncertainty, Cale argues.

“Like it or not, we have to have something to replace our tax base,” he said. “Clearly coal is going away.”

Despite being consistently blocked in his and Madden’s push for increasing the tax, Case said he will simply try again next year.

In the meantime, he’s looking for ways to bypass a hesitant Legislature and appeal to voters. He thinks he can garner enough support for a citizens’ initiative. Case is also reaching out to opinion writers that raise concerns about wind in the media and is trying to convince members of Wyoming’s Republican party to get behind a tax increase.

“There is just a lot on the table right now,” Case said. “I don’t think people even understand that these projects multiply the number of turbines that we have now.”

Other considerations might have solutions:

http://www.digitaltends.com:

We’re big fans or renewable energy sources, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t come without their own (sometimes unforeseen) challenges. One such challenge? The issue of birds, including federally protected avians such as bald eagles and golden eagles, flying into wind turbines. While bird deaths by wind turbine are comparatively rare next to other causes of fatality, it’s still a problem that needs to be looked into — particularly when it comes to endangered species.”

These articles are just a tiny bit of information on using wind for a power source. Here in the western states we have the opportunity to harness it, but there are debates. What do you think?

MLMM Saturday Mix 5-19-18

I lay on a pillow of liquidity

Eons of memories float with me

There is no top or bottom

There’s no choice in the path

There are only moments and thoughts

Some not of my choosing.

Movie Monday Oops, the draft published itself! 😱

An oldie but goodie: “Desk Set” with Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn. Their first dinner together is very funny. You can almost feel the rapport these two actors have, right through the screen.

Bunny Watson (Katharine Hepburn) is a library reference clerk stuck in a dead-end relationship with a boring television executive (Gig Young). Her life is thrown into turmoil when computer expert Richard Summers (Spencer Tracy) enters it. He has been assigned with automating her department, and she is fearful that Summers’ new computers will automate her out of a job. She despises him at first, but eventually each of the two start to fall for the other’s charms and strong personalities.

FFftPP Week 20

They ignored the signs. They ignored the warnings. That’s what teenagers do, after all, they’re invincible! That was the attitude of Joe and Frank as they rushed into the water jumping on their surfboards. Weather looked ominous, but they decided to take one last ride on the rough surf.

The first to flounder was Frank, flailing against the current and disappeared. Joe was oblivious, watching the thunderclouds approaching. “We really should pack up, with this storm coming”, glancing behind him for his friend.

Searching the waves for Frank, rain was pelting making it hard to see. The waves were strong and he found it hard to remain upright, surprised at the rising surf. He helplessly searched for Frank, but was having a hard time just keeping himself above the waves. Suddenly thrown off, the board still attached by an ankle strap. The water was swirling around him, causing a vortex. He felt himself being pulled under, the strap breaking away. His lifeline was leaving him, and he had no way to retrieve it.

As he went under, thought he saw a glimpse of Frank and reached out for him. It was the boys last vacation.

Daily Post: Complication

Tuned in to the proper station

Set the dials to the destination

For the royal wedding’s duration

Thought I’d completed the assignation

Then awoke to find frustration

Thinking what in tarnation?

Excitement turned to sad deflation

Upset to miss it, tried to ration

DVR causing palpitations

Thought there’d be no complication

Now have to settle, with no placation.

SoCS May 19, 2018

The Royal Wedding day and of course I thought I had set my DVR to record the whole thing, woke up at five to find it wasn’t recording. Now I am relegated to switching channels between BBCA and news channels just trying to find something current. No luck, just commentary, which gets a bit old after a while. So I am recording that and will switch off commercials as I watch it later. I am surprised to see some American celebrities attending. I am excited to see Prince Harry and Meghan who both look very much in love. It does bring memories of Diana which leaves an empty hole in the affair. Seeing Camilla Bowles, of course now accepted, gives me a headache. Okay, I’ll just stop talking now…

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 19

On your nose fizzy kiss

It was bottled bliss

Burn on your throat

In the form of a Coke.

An addiction of sorts

Not one you snort.

1886 the beginning

Reports say it was in it

To avoid all liquor regs

Coca leaf, kola nut, used instead.

It wasn’t until as late as 1929

The company was pulled back into line

It’s still unclear since 1980

If there’s still a trace

Used at their place.

I admit I used to like it a whole lot

The drink known still as Coca Cola.

Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction 5-17-18

The Lincoln Theater in Cheyenne, WY closed its doors last week. It is now vacant and plans for the property are not disclosed. There have been rumors a type of night club may be coming. There are lots of “bars” in Cheyenne. It’s very sad to see an historic icon’s demise. Located in the downtown area, I would assume it is a prime property. There are two other theaters in Cheyenne, one being revamped at the small shopping mall, which itself is trying hard to hold onto businesses. The other is a another redone theater with ARQ seating now available.

MLMM Tale Weaver 171

“I see the light” little Marie screamed over the crowd.

“You’re going to be fine, I tell you!” Liberty stood up straighter than ever, shining the beacon she has held for many years. She was placed there on an island generations before and had a job to do, shine the beacon of hope to all people who arrived in her presence.

“I see it momma, now I know we’ll be okay. We have a new home!” Marie was beyond excited. Promises had been made, and here they were written right in front of her in stone, so it had to be true. It had been a long ride, dangerous at times, but now she could feel welcomed and safe.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 18

Continuing my emotional trip down memory lane with another loved song by “The Association” — “Never My Love”. It’s times like these, listening to these YouTube romantic dreamy songs, I think forgotten ruins comes into play.

Nothing is as perfect as you think it will be, the photographs of wedded bliss, the dreams of youth and never ending hope for the future. At least in my experience, as I reminisce and think about my past, what I thought it was going to be, and what it actually was. My personal belief is that nothing is perfect. As I look back I remind myself to forget the ruins and concentrate on the beautiful visions, because I believe we all have both.
