This is a reblog of a post done in February 2017. I’m trying to play catchup after having company a few days:
He’s touching me!
I am not, it’s Harry, he touches everybody.
You’re pushing me, I’m going to fall off!
Well if you fall off, just join those wimpy guys inside.
Hey, we’re not wimps, it’s warm in here.
Charlie, keep your paws to yourself!
Uh, sorry, Kate, it’s just so crowded up here.
Joe, sweetie, your whiskers are tickling my nose, you’re so cute!
Shelly, I just love your little beady eyes, dear.
Crowding to the right from Whitey and his brother Biggie.
Okay everybody off to the left. Whitey’s crowding as usual.
Tiny pops up, big ears showing.
Hey, look out there! Is it cheese? I think it’s cheese! Come on guys, let’s check it out!
So goes a day in the life of mice.

The market was bustling, everyone knew Wednesday was the best day to come. Every vendor put out their newest creations and if you wanted a good choice, you had to be there early.
This day Suzie and Mary were determined to find the items needed for a secret quilting project for their sister. Since Suzie was older and had her own apartment they could assemble the sewing project without their sister discovering it.
They had already made photograph squares to use, but today a few special pieces of material and trims was their quest.

The old forgive and forget came to mind as he listened intriguingly to his uncle’s tales of his father’s childhood.

The boys packed their belongings in their mother’s worn suitcase. The brown leather handle was barely hanging on but they knew she would never have minded them using it.
Ever since their mother died, the two brothers were closer than ever. The father of the two was a hard worker in a poor neighborhood, and gone most of the time. The grandfather the boys loved dearly, watched over them occasionally while their dad was away at work. The three grew even closer because his wife, their grandmother, had passed a few years earlier.
When they finished packing for a week trip to stay with their grandfather, they stopped a moment in their parent’s bedroom. Looking at a picture of their mother, placed on the bedside table, they noticed a rose beside it, now dried and withered. The rose was placed by their father.
“Dad sure misses her, makes me feel bad for him.”
“We all miss her but I think it’s worse for him. He thought she was magic.”
Heels clicking on the rough path
Stepping outside the moon’s light bath
Dangers ahead with discovered tryst
Not even a covering of thick mist
For lovers meeting, wishing to hide
The cobblestone passages did not provide
A shelter for the forbidden meet
They should have chosen a quieter street.

They called her the Zephr. The college boys used that term when speaking of Miss Jane. More polite young men never mouthed the name publicly but knew what it meant, feeling the same.
Jane was one of the rarest of women, no need for accoutrements, she was a natural beauty. Her complexion pale as was the custom in those days, with pink lips and slightly blushed cheeks adding to the attraction. In class many male students would drown in her dark blue eyes, completely forgetting their studies.
Keeping to herself, Jane didn’t realize young men were mesmerized as she passed by.

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 10
In the summer following my birth my older sister sat with me reluctantly as she must have envisioned her carefree childhood was now turning into a responsibility.
Powerful and persnickety, Fearless Fosdick rides again.

Standing here, still waiting. At least I think I’m standing. The train rushing by so fast–the power of it might blow me away. Away from you, waiting for you.
Are you coming? I don’t see you or even feel you, but I’m standing here, waiting.
Is this even real? If you come will you see me? Or am I dreaming again, dreaming of you and I running away together.
