30 Day Song Challenge #23

A song you think everyone should listen to, I really don’t know. I won’t presume to tell anyone else what they should listen to.

I like a lot of songs for different reasons and some inspire me. I think “This Is Me” – another from the Greatest Showman, is how we should all feel, but that is only my opinion. I’m sure you’ve heard it many times:

30 Day Song Challenge – Day 1

Two, no. . .three mints in one!

I shall compose a mask for myself.

It should be handsome, friendly, and bedecked with power.

A mask of such mystery you might never suspect who I really am, what I really feel, or how I really act when you are not around.

I’m Batman!

FOWC with Fandango — Compose

Busy day, getting into the spirit..

Okay, I caved. There’s snow falling, so I bought a tiny fake tree with tiny fake-looking lights and added a few decorations from my trunk around the room. I couldn’t stand long enough to hang the wreath so put it around the tree instead. Not bad. I have a new set of birds to keep an eye on the tree.

Made banana bread and hot tea and putting my feet up : ).

I know, sparse and crooked, but Charlie Brown and I have taste. : )

REBLOG: The Christmas Spirit lives!

Tonight I was working the late evening shift, sitting by myself at the office. I turned on the radio, to fill the silence. In the evening, this radio station usually holds a sports open-line show, and people call in to talk about hockey, football or any other sports they feel like talking about. I am not that much into sports, but the conversations don’t distract me as much as music, and the radio host, Derek Aucoin, is a dang good guy. He has a way with people that makes it enjoyable to listen to the show, even if the subject is somewhat boring.

Tonight, since it was the last show before Christmas, and Derek opened the line to any subject people wanted to talk about. A girl called to say how she just wanted to offer her mother a good winter coat for Christmas, but she couldn’t afford it. Another listener called to say they…

“Four Weddings and a Funeral”
Lovable Englishman Charles (Hugh Grant) and his group of friends seem to be unlucky in love. When Charles meets a beautiful American named Carrie (Andie MacDowell) at a wedding, he thinks his luck may have changed. But, after one magical night, Carrie returns to the States, ending what might have been. As Charles and Carrie’s paths continue to cross — over a handful of nuptials and one funeral — he comes to believe they are meant to be together, even if their timing always seems to be off.

“Your trips to the mall deli are over”, as he mauled the receipts in the shredder.

“I just wanted to get your favorite lox for Hanukkah. It’s not like we can just go fishing here in the desert, there are no lochs here!

“Well I’ve had it. We can’t afford these expenditures. Today I’m going to the bank and put locks on your accounts.”

“Bah humbug!”

MLMM First Line Friday 12-21-18

Continued from MLMM Tale Weaver #202:

The radio was playing the oddest song. He turned it on after the first strike in my side. I was so surprised by the attack, I just looked at him. He turned away and I staggered back holding onto the lounge chair. He glanced over his shoulder at me and turned on the CD player-radio. The song was, “My Funny Valentine”. His smile was back but not the friendly one I was used to. How odd such an old song was playing but it seemed he had willed it, as he began humming along with the music.

I was so stunned I don’t even know if I realized I was stabbed! I felt dizzy, it must not be real, must be a nightmare. . .wake up will you? He turned back around and as I saw the blood on the knife, not a big knife, he must have had it on him the whole evening, my mind was dazed, was he actually coming at me again? Humming that creepy song as if he was going to make me his own valentine, carve me into what he wanted.

I tried to step back to get to the door, but my legs were stuck in the spot. Blood dripped faster from my side, I felt it warm and sticky on my hand, and he came again and again till I was lying helpless on the floor.

As everything seemed to fade, my only thought was I hope they call, I hope they sense I’m in trouble, someone, anyone, help me, and that song playing.

MLMM Tale Weaver #202

“Evening becomes you”, he said as if everything was perfectly normal, he was complimenting me, he was not standing there with the knife, and I was not breathing my last laying on the floor.

I first met him at an online dating service. Of course his picture was delightful and very inviting, so I decided to text him back. The next few days were nonstop meetings and I was hooked. He was devilishly handsome, a term that proved too true. He was charming beyond my dreams and everything was what I wished for, wished so hard I failed to see it was too everything, too perfect.

As I lay here bloody and regretful for ever having met him, my only hope was one of my friends would call. The three of us had a pact to periodically call each other when we chose to date someone we didn’t know well. The plan worked if I adhered to it, but I was so blindly positive I ignored my inner warnings.

This night started out well, drinks and dinner at a well known spot, and then when we reached his car in the lot, he roughly pushed me against it. Thinking he didn’t realize how powerful he was I laughed nervously. I knew we were reaching the point where the evening wouldn’t end in just dinner. I thought I was ready. I made some flippant comment, almost a flirt, and he smiled and we headed to my apartment.

Everything seemed normal until his face changed from the usual smile to a darkness that was new to me. I should have realized I was in trouble. I may have been able to calmly walk into the bathroom, lock the door, call my friend, or even 911. But I was not that person who thought ahead. I was careless and trusting and now here I am, a bloody heap.

FOWC: Intervene

I must say I’m not keen

On most things that intervene

Putting them in between

Them and what I actually need.

For example I can be seen

On an app or on a screen

When something pops, ruins the scene.

I’m no technology queen

I’d rather have what might have been

Before all of this supposed sheen

Seriously, it’s not in my genes!

I guess my old ways I’ll have to wean

Use new technology to glean

Redo, accept, upgrade to preen

And start fresh, my tablet clean.
