Happy 210th Birthday, Abraham Lincoln

“I was born Feb. 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky. My parents were both born in Virginia, of undistinguished families–second families, perhaps I should say. My mother, who died in my tenth year, was of a family of the name of Hanks…. My father … removed from Kentucky to … Indiana, in my eighth year…. It was a wild region, with many bears and other wild animals still in the woods. There I grew up…. Of course when I came of age I did not know much. Still somehow, I could read, write, and cipher … but that was all.”

Thank you, Mr. President, for your service and sacrifice. We won’t see the likes of you again. One of my childhood dreams came true when I visited the Lincoln Memorial as an adult.
Still Monday here

It’s “do as I say”
The conundrum is:

Putting My Feet in the Dirt 12

Smuggling, snuggling or struggling……describes my nights perfectly. I don’t really smuggle, unless it’s a kindle under the covers, keeping my hands warm enough to read.
Snuggling would be great, but alas, I live alone.
Struggling is the real problem, trying to sleep. Sleeping is a gift for your brain and your body as a whole. Every part of you needs to rest at some time.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt #93

Looking out on the sunrised scape
Memories of happier times invade
Holding a newborn or older child
A hand in safety, a mother mild
Time passing quickly and as my eye
Saw the sun rise in the most blue sky
I see the children grown and drift apart
Choosing life and love from their own heart
The sun has left the height of noon
Sunset will be coming soon
Moving always towards the horizon.

MLMM Wordle #120

Just an old grimalkin, stretching herself out on the attic floor. Dusky shadows drifted in from the only window, but she still strived to lay in the sun warmed spot. She wrapped herself around the tattered upholstered chair leg like a vine of strangleweed.
The elderly feline was considered by some as augur of the future, a curse of sorts, and that is why most of her time was spent in the attic, locked away from the children.
The cat’s human family often held gatherings of a cabal nature, featuring ether and dripping candle wax in strange signs. The most depicted was the zodiac sign of Capricorn, the goat head, which to them, symbolized a devilish figure.
In these secret meetings, the cat was brought out on display, as a threat to any who might be unsure of the beliefs of the group. Any misgivings, thought to be well hidden, were immediately rooted out by the grimalkin.

Grocery Shopping, Kid Style
The very best way to shop. While mom was in the eyeglass section with the 12 year old, I had a 16 and 12 year old to myself, (helping) me shop. Delighted it was Friday where samples were displayed by two vendors, Lindt and Ghirardelli chocolate and Cheez-It’s. The lady at the chocolate booth was not smiling and practically skewered us with her eyes as we approached.
Having no compunction in meeting that look, I grabbed two samples, one for me and one for my daughter at the eye clinic. My two grandchildren each took one. The Cheez-It lady was open and friendly and had samples of a new Diet Coke – blueberry and strawberry and offered all samples with a great smile. We laughed as we tried each one. I said to her, it’s nice to see your smiling friendly face, unlike the lady over there. She said, “take what you want. . .I just fill the cups”. (An honest reply.)
We are not used to drinking soda and the carbonation made for a few loud burps later which added to the joy of the day. It’s the little things. . .
Another highlight was a man coming towards us with a weird sideways stare at my cart, the whole time he passed by, as if to say, “don’t move anywhere near me” to which we all laughed hysterically after he passed. Seriously, I was parked waiting for the salad lady to put out new lettuce! Along with that and three elderly like myself, gentlemen, offering help of different kinds, it was a great time had by all. I did threaten to search the starer and sideswipe him, just a little, but suddenly my adult self kicked in and I forgot about it.
Having a very short list to shop for, we engaged in an economical activity, determining which Valentine candy box was the best deal. . .a math lesson if you prefer. We decided as we perused the aisle that Hershey’s Pot of Gold was the best deal, if not the best chocolate in the group. This is the 16 year old with proof. . .100+ chocolates for $20.00!😂 Most prices started at 25 – 50 cents per piece.

Am I the only one? 🙄
I don’t use the green or blue frogs. I get emails from the bloggers whose prompts I do. At the bottom of the email is their website address. After I finish writing my post, I copy and paste that address onto the bottom of my post. It also makes it easy to find them in my drafts folder in email. Lately when I copy, it comes out looking like a long line of gobbledygook that looks the same, so indistinguishable as to which Blogger wrote what! I can either copy their address from an old Prompt post or screenshot the whole email and type it in myself. Is this the new editor I’ve been hearing about that is causing this? Or is it me, again?😳
