SoCS 3-23-19

Good day from snowy Wyoming. Just when you thought it was safe to open the blinds permanently, now they’re closed again to keep heat in. I was blessed this morning with a visit from my grandson, home from college for the weekend, yea!

I see the Prompt is, “the last item you received in the mail“–no surprises here, a bill! A bill from a credit card company I’m working to pay off, slow but sure. It was a convenient help a year ago and now it’s pay-the-piper time. I rarely get any actual mail that’s worth reading–it’s like phone calls, everyone asking for money or selling something. I’m watching “I Saw the Light” – the tragic story of Hank Williams, played extremely well by Tom Hiddleston.

Have a pleasant weekend and smell the daffodils, if you have them!

Symptom Rebuttal

It was pointed out to me that my symptom post was negative and that didn’t seem like my usual post. It wasn’t I suppose, and it was intriguing to be challenged to come up with a rebuttal to satisfy curious minds as to my attitude? So here it is:

Happiness

Laughter

Smiles

Giving

Gratitude

Loyalty

Concern

Caring

Listening

Loving

Hugging

Taking a hand in yours

These are a few things I think of that make life better–in order to survive the problems life has to offer. Because each one of us in the world has problems, some more than others. If you reach out, listen, and even offer just a smile or look of sincere concern, you have made yourself and the other person feel better for a while. It only takes a moment and we all have that time.

Story Starter 19

“There is nothing under your bed” she said, emphatically. “Now if you don’t get to sleep, we’ll both be tired and grouchy tomorrow. It’s two in the morning and the alarm is set for six, so please, go to sleep!” Being the parent of a child with a huge imagination was usually a blessing, but lately, little Johnny seemed to be plagued with scary thoughts.

The alarm sounded at six as promised and Johnny checked around his bed. Finding nothing, he still scurried over to the bathroom door and shut it quickly. Washing up, dressing, all he did quickly in order to be out of his room and down to a warm breakfast. His mom always fixed a nice filling breakfast for him to start the day on a good note.

Johnny jumped off the last two stairs as he did every morning, but didn’t hear his mother’s voice as he did every morning, pleading for him to be careful. It was sort of a joke between them. He dismissed that and sat down at the kitchen table, surprised there was no smell of food there, no sign of it, or of his mother.

He decided to run back upstairs to see if she overslept. It had happened once before, and he smiled to himself thinking he would give her a fake scolding. He saw the door was open, but she was not in bed. What he did see were claw marks on the sheets and mattress side, then a bloody trail to the window. His mother was never found. Johnny never went in either bedroom again.

MLMM Tale Weaver – Be Careful What You Wish For

Mary had never been alone. Growing up she was always surrounded by family, lots of family–five sisters, three brothers, and all of her grandparents. Each night after her prayers she added a request, “please, could I just have even one moment alone?”

In a busy household where all the family occupied the same areas, it was an impossible request. Even a short trip to the bathroom might be interrupted by one of the littles. The all for one, one for all concept was a twenty-four hour constant in her life.

Other teenagers in her classes would envy her close family, as most either had only one parent, no grandparents present, or both parents working outside the home. They definitely knew what it was like to be alone most of the time and all situations were usually looked upon as not ideal.

Mary received a scholarship to attend a college a few hours away from her home. The dorm rooms, although crowded and noisy were a respite for her. She rarely had time alone, but enjoyed however long it was. Most of her weekends were spent with her family back at home.

As time passed, graduation with excellent grades made for a nice resume and Mary found a few great job offers and accepted one in a state far from home. Settling in to a new life, a new apartment and new job, Mary was often alone. Her wish finally came true. It was only a few months of this aloneness when Mary realized it was not exactly what she had dreamed. There was no one constantly talking, asking her how she was, how she felt, or if she was all right. Basically it was too quiet. Making new friends had never been a problem before because she had her sisters and brothers always as best friends. Mary found being alone was not what she really wanted after all.

Three Line Tales #164

“Don’t worry, we’re going to make it”. Paul was trying to make his voice sound reassuring even though his heart was beating faster every second. It was his idea to do this, take this path to run. It was their only chance to survive, and he wanted to be strong for Janet.

The road narrowed and they were in sight ahead of them on the left. Janet clutched Paul’s hand tighter as they drew closer to the spectres. Every hair on the back of her neck stood up.

Both scared, but she had faith in Paul, he was her hero.
