It was the hot summer of my seventeenth year. I was in heaven for a teenager, with a steady boyfriend, diploma in hand, and even though an undetermined future, all seemed right with the world.
My family decided to take a long vacation to cross the country in a camper to visit my dad’s childhood home. It was crowded but fun and we all seemed to get along despite the crammed quarters.
We travelled over 10,000 miles, along highways and back roads, corn covered landscapes and snowy mountainous wonders. We visited caves, sandstone castled vistas and resort villages, cities and sprawling cattle ranches. Along the way my father reunited with a few relatives and seemed happy to visit lands of his youth.
A week later, I developed a severe pain in my back. As it got progressively worse we stopped at a makeshift hospital near an A’aninin reservation. There was an old doctor there who seemed odd in his attire and long black hair, but he could not offer any conventional cure for my back. I seemed doomed to walk in a bent over manner, enduring it.
The old doctor took my father aside. They nodded and we left. The next morning we took a walk and dad brought fishing gear. I’d never liked fly fishing, but sitting at the beautiful river, he promised a good result. Standing upright, my pain increased, but I managed a few casts. I couldn’t believe it, feeling a big tug and ended up toppling into the river. Scrambling up, had caught a fish, both of us partly covered in a white substance, and it was THIS big?! As I held the fish, my pain seemed to disappear. I looked at my father–what it was the doctor told him I’ll never know, but it worked.

A boy named Charlie
Took a Chance
A golden ticket Caused a dance
Charlie’s Gramps took the trip with him
Not Cognizant of how it would begin
The Cunning host had a factory
Made chocolate delicious, and satisfactory
The trip Charlie took was bizarre
But he ended up the Culinary star
Kindness and Courage took him through
And Caused rewards for the humble two.

A busker on the street of the same name, hardly a popular spot, but Bambi cared not for large crowds. Bambi liked entertaining the less fortunate and played her self composed tunes for the street people. She felt an obligation to the homeless.
Growing up in a fine home surrounded by lavishness, she longed to give back. Her way of doing this was to entertain people using her talent. Each afternoon she would set up her equipment in another section of Busker Street. Bambi hoped she would bring some light into those dark parts of their lives.

I certainly don’t think it’s odd
What I choose to do with my bod
Inking, drawing, colors all hues
Is it the subject matter I choose?
You see I love old time cartoons
Mickey, Goofy and Pepe Le Pew
Felix, Woody, even Betty Boop
Foghorn Leghorn, Yosemite Sam
Don’t forget Popeye–I yam what I yam
Roadrunner, and Dudley Do-Right
Tom and Jerry, always a fight
Boris, Natasha and Bullwinkle, too
So many favorites, it’s hard to do. . .
Finding a space for each one I adore
I’ll have to gain weight to tat anymore.

B for boys. I recently logged in to my old high school website and looked up, you guessed it, my first crush. Of course he has aged but still has that great smile I was attracted to. He has also fought cancer, has grandchildren and also lost his spouse, so we have things in common. My curiosity piqued, I left a message for him saying I remember he was my first crush. Bold, wasn’t it? 😂 I never really feel as old as I am, that is until I see my same aged friends. Time certainly marches on.
“Life After Death” by Damien Echol
“dering and tampering with confiscated” fingerprint fakes from the safe knobs. Harry had seen this technique used before, cellophane over their own prints to blame another. He thought Joe was innocent, but this was pretty substantial proof that Joe was being framed. Harry kept this to himself temporarily or he would be under suspicion himself. Not every detective had access to the evidence room and he needed more time to find the real culprit.
It was only later that morning Harry caught Jack in the washroom, furiously scrubbing something from his hands. It turned out the glue from the fake fingerprint cellophane had an ingredient Jack was allergic to. Harry took Jack and the evidence to the Chief and Jack admitted his plot.
Another case closed by Detective Harry Hochet, brother to the famous Ric Hochet.
