A to Z Challenge – Fascinated with Fab Frogs!

Good morning! My daughter’s love of frogs culminated in her purchase of Flippo, the mottled green, red smiled being on my granddaughter’s right side in the photo below. My daughter acquired him at an early age at Duckwall’s five and dime. Do they even have five and dimes anymore? 😳😃

You can see he’s still in perfect shape and still has that warm smile. He has been stitched up a few times over the forty plus years he’s been in our family, but handsome as ever! Her daughter fell in love with Flippo also, and is her constant companion, along with other frogs in many forms.

For fabulous frog fans:

Predatory Pete

“Frankly, I’ve had it with your behavior, the boss decreed. I’m no longer going to condone your eating other peoples’ lunch from the fridge. Why can’t you just make your own lunch?”

The rest of the employees in the small office cafeteria agreed. One suggested Pete should buy pizzas or Chinese to be delivered just to make up for his thoughtlessness.

Pete just shrugged, not accepting these rules of rejection and walked out. The next day the security guard was eating his lunch when he saw Pete confiscating another lunch, clearly marked for someone else. He grabbed Pete by the collar and took him into the boss.

No surprise as Pete was fired. Subtle cheering was heard as he packed his belongings and left.

Three Line Tales #166 – With Friends like these. . .

Julie felt faint. Things seemed to be spinning around her. It must have been those vitamins her friend recommended. She had taken one this morning, and didn’t eat breakfast.

Julie had always been chubby but at sixteen it wasn’t cute anymore. She felt depressed. Janet told her about a new energizing vitamin that had the extra benefit of weight loss. Desperate and tired, Julie tried one from a bottle Janet loaned her the day before.

There were instructions and warnings on the bottle, but she didn’t read them. Julie passed out in class but her friend Janet had conveniently disappeared.

Three Line Tales, Week 166

Leave Us

It started out while watching a series on Netflix–not the phrase, but my laughing at it. No matter how serious the premise, I cant help but laugh. The phrase is “leave us“.

Did anyone ever say that in real life? I suppose a most common thought would be yes, by royalty. Now it seems everyone says it!

****

Here are more overused, and yes, I do it myself, phrases:

Is that all you got

Don’t go in there

I was born ready

Are you sitting down

Maybe you should sit down

Cover me

Make my day

I’ll be back

Let’s split up

What’s the worst that could happen

I’ve got a bad feeling about this

You’re not going to like this

Easy way or the hard way

(My personal pet peeve: ” love means never having to say you’re sorry”. Didn’t like the movie, the actors or the story.)

****

What are your favorite or pet peeve phrases?

A to Z Challenge – E

E for ego. Ego has been defined as:

Usually if someone has been defined as having a big ego, it means they are self important. Let’s see, who immediately comes to mind in today’s world that might fit this definition?

Ego is also defined as having a big head, being full of themselves, narcissistic, conceited, vain, pompous, arrogant or cocky.

Any guesses?

Story Starter 4-4-19

Joey hurried down the stairs. He wanted to find his big brother as fast as he could. The lightning and thunder frightened him and only his brother Sam could make him feel safe. “You’re such a scaredy cat” his sister Mary taunted. She placed herself next to the window to show she was unafraid.

Their parents had gone out for the night to a lecture series. Both being history professors, their children were also history buffs. Even Joey at the age of ten was learning.

Sam was in charge. The most charming quality of Sam was his sense of humor. He watched over his younger siblings with great care. He realized Joey would come to him for comfort. He settled on the floor with Joey snuggled into him.

Suddenly the lights went out. Joey tried to bury himself in Sam’s shirt. Lights flickered and came back on to stay. Sam couldn’t help himself, saying in his deepest English accent voice “it was our darkest hour“. Even Mary had to laugh!

A to Z Challenge D for Dragonfly

I have a Dragonfly as my header image, just changed to a new pic today. I chose the Dragonfly because it is a symbol of change. That is why I started the blog after a few huge changes had occurred. The first year of blogging was all about how my life morphed into something almost completely different. That is why the Socrates quote and the beautiful Dragonfly photos.

100 Word Wednesday #115

Skinamarinky dinky dink. Contacts.

“Have you seen my contacts? These skinamarinky dinky dink tiles are about to drive me crazy! I thought I could use my reading glasses to pull out the letters I need but they’re useless!”

Frank was having the mother of all bad days. He woke up with a headache, left his wallet on the table, forgot his coffee, but was fortunate enough to have located his cellphone in his coat pocket. Murphy had him by the cajones today.

He needed to get the type set by ten. Calling his wife again, “Mildred, have you seen my contacts?”

“Again, Frank, no!”
