3TC 6-10-19 – witch, pillow, margarita

I thought the margarita was a bit strong, but I decided, why not, and squeezed more lime into it. It was my vacation after all, and I meant to take advantage of all the perks of this new hotel. The brochure promised your secret desires fulfilled at every turn, or was it, at every turn a secret desire? I think the drinks are getting to me. Great, it’s just what I needed.

When I signed in, I was given a brochure explaining the extras at this particular hotel. I hadn’t paid too much attention to it, but as I lay back on the organic buckwheat pillow, I saw something interesting. “Ever want to see your secret desires? We can show you!” Yikes, I thought, this sounds too weird.

Early morning sun woke me since I forgot to shut the heavy drapes last night. Reluctantly I crawled out of bed, still feeling the after effects of one too many margaritas. They were delicious, though I smiled to myself, and took a brisk shower. I picked up the brochure to read again, and the part I read last night seemed to beckon me. Again, I thought why not, it’s vacation!

The location was not far from the hotel and the small shop was interesting. Tarot cards, spirit candles, various other occult items were strewn about but it wasn’t an uncomfortable atmosphere, just the opposite; it seemed welcoming. Out from the proverbial beaded curtain came an older woman, colorfully dressed with a large smile and dark eyes. “Welcome, welcome my dear” she offered as she noticed I was holding the hotel brochure. “How may I help you today?” Again, only looking at the brochure, she added, “I see you’re interested in seeing your secret desires.” She then ushered me through the beaded doorway to a small booth in the rear of the establishment.

Surprisingly, I was not frightened, and the longer I was in her presence, the more at ease I became. I melted into the booth and seemed not able to escape her stare. It was almost as if her being close put me into a trancelike state. I felt numb, and helplessly sat in the booth. The last words I heard her say were “I have you now, my pretty.”

The old woman was now free to reveal her witch persona, now that the girl was hers. A few more minutes and her transformation into the beautiful young woman would be completed.

Corn on the Cob

🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽

Carol told us it was a special day

Corn on the cob, I must say

A well loved treat but to my dismay

Old choppers may give way

Removing the kernels from the fray

Guess it’s a knife I’ll have to lay

On to truly enjoy the display

Sadly, it’s the only way.

MLMM Wordle – 137

It was an attempt to seize the day, the old carpe diem. I was looking forward to a gift in the mail, rose and showered early. Then as I dressed, saw the wrinkles on my bared arm, and the massive burden of the weight of time suddenly struck me full force.

I feel no older than I did ten years ago. It’s funny how you can fool yourself into one way of thinking, but the hollowness of the area around a still strong muscle lacked the radiance of youth. Was my body really this old? A profusion of awareness invaded and no longer patronized my thoughts. Unsurprisingly you might think, I was smacked in the face with reality; yes, this is me, this is my aging body. The attributes of youth are definitely gone. My mind seems to have put this aside, deluding me.

Prolonged confinement of actuality leaked into my presence. And it is present. I put on a long sleeved shirt and think, I can do this. Will I achieve complete acceptance? Probably not, but there is no other choice.

It was a surprise, a memory gap,

between my conscious and what lies beneath
A fairy tale of youth and dreams
When everything is not as it seems
An unfilled wish of thoughts expressed
or maybe only memories are best
Not the present or even the future
Thinking of what might be, or conjure
Our minds only seek the best
And leave the others to lay at rest.

Brewing coffee wafted into my bedroom, I was so happy we set the timer for it last night. There is a reason for a timer instead of the usual blaring alarm, preferring a scent instead of a jarring sound. Even with the inducement of holding that warming cup, I rolled over and scooted under the duvet. Spring thunderstorms in the night kept me awake till three, and I wasn’t ready to be chipper just yet.

My companion, however, was oblivious to last night’s noise, and slept like a log, and was ready for the morning cup of caffeine. I tugged at his tshirt as he rose to leave, and he accommodated my morning request. Snuggling under the covers with him was my favorite way to start the day. This love of my life was always there for me, answering every and any need I might have at the moment. Sunday mornings were always a delight; a day we could be fully into each other instead of hurrying about satisfying the necessary pull of our daily life.

A husband, a lover, a best friend, everything I had thought would never actually happen in my life, yet here he was, in the flesh. Growing up reading many stories of fantasy involving knights in shining armor, this cliche had come to me, not as a dream in my childhood, but by way of a softball game. I was watching from the bleachers with a group of friends when I saw him, and was immediately drawn to him. He also was drawn to me, evidenced by his seeking me out after the game ended. It was a casual greeting, but singling me out of the crowd was telling. This was the unlikely pairing of two strangers across a crowded field. From then on we were together in every way.

This morning he returned with two hot cups of coffee, croissants and jam on a tray. Outside it was raining softly and the atmosphere lended itself to a day of staying in, being comfy and together. I couldn’t help myself from thinking how fortunate I was, living this life, being close to the man I loved and respected, and questioned what I had done to deserve it.

We both are dedicated to our jobs during the week, but Sundays are ours alone. We prepare each Saturday, shopping for anything we might favor on our day off. It is usually something already prepared for a no fuss day. Lounging a bit more, a long shower for two, we were ready for a walk in the now rain freshened park.

This evening we had candlelight and dessert by the fire. To make the evening complete, my husband turned on the CD player to the song we first danced to, “Scotch and Soda”. We danced like it was the first time. This may sound like a dream, but we work every day to make this life a reality. We dedicate ourselves to each other first. It’s worth it.
