Picture Prompt-16

“Waiting in line has always been a favorite pastime of mine”, he said with a sarcastic note.

” What about you, Prancer?”

“Well my name is Prancer, so I just dance around with Dancer to make the time short.”

“Waiting, waiting, waiting. Waiting for the sleigh to load, and all the stops on those slippery roofs, waiting for Santa to unload and go down the chimney, deliver the gifts. My whole life is just…waiting! I know it’s for a good cause, but darn, it gets boring!”

“Sounds like you got up on the wrong side of the hay…..it’s only one night!  You can handle it. At least you’re not Rudolph.  Can you imagine having that red light in your eyes all night?”

“Guess you have a point, six of them”, he said, chuckling. He decided to join Prancer and Dancer to have fun.

Daily Prompt:  Fortune

If I had a fortune, I would feed and house everyone in the world that needed it. That would be quite a fortune! There are lots of empty spaces that the homeless could have shelter in. If you have blankets, coats, gloves, socks, boots, even if used, there’s always someone who would love to have them! And next time you’re shopping in the grocery, instead of those “needed” items, such as potato chips, or candy bars, etc., purchase a few sustainable foods for your neighborhood food pantry.

Just an idea. Happy Holidays from me to all of you. Thanks for reading!❄🎄☃

Tell me something good-36

A few good things to tell:  I only have one more present to purchase. However I need to wrap various hidden items stashed in my room. Cookies baked and have two to munch on, others went elsewhere, I’m thankful for that. My two sons and their families arrive Thursday. And that is very special GOOD NEWS!

Picture Prompt-15

Okay, I know I look ridiculous, but with all this global warming, there’s no snow for my sleigh! And having the reindeer in this warm weather just makes them too tired to fly. Yes, I’m sweating profusely in this suit. Times past I needed it to stay warm. With all this humidity, my mustache’s starting to curl!

Get on with it!  Yes, I’m all right, holding on to this line. Hurry, we have packages to deliver. Oh, by the way, no chimneys this year either!

Ho, ho, ho, Merry Christmas!

Cool Beans

I was reading a comment from lostpropertrepository.com and it started me thinking about what a privileged childhood I had, certainly something to be thankful for.  In my response we were talking about beans.  Weird, eh?  When I was a child my sister and I would walk up in the woods and carry a can of Campbells Pork and Beans.  When we got tired or hungry, we would eat them right out of the can.  Now I don’t know why we did this but it’s a fond memory.  Like putting a glob of horseradish in someone’s peanut butter sandwich.

We had 100 acres of beautiful Vermont farm land.  We had a twenty room white painted farmhouse with bright shutters.  The attic I’ve mentioned before was a treasure trove.  We also had chickens, cats dropped off from passersby, a couple of dogs, and Holstein milk cows, a bull, and a big old horse named Trigger —  of course, because Roy Rogers was popular then.  We had a big hay barn, a milk house and a grain house.  A woodshed was attached to the house and a large tool shed close by.  My folks kept a huge vegetable garden and I had a small flower garden.  All types of berries were scattered across the acres.  Two apple orchards and a cultivated blackberry patch, and  Concord grape vines, all made for delicious concoctions made by our mother.

We helped our dad and grandfather bring in the hay and I even was allowed to steer the tractor a few times.  Dad made us a pond to skate on in the winter.  We took turns finding out if the ice was strong enough to skate on.  I doubt our mom knew about that.  If it wasn’t, we had miles of frozen brook to skate on, not very smooth, but adventurous. We would take our sleds over hills on top of hills and enjoy a long ride to the bottom and then trek up again.  Sometimes the snow would form an icy crust and we took cardboard instead and flew down the hills.

We weren’t allowed to sled on the road, but of course we did.  Our farm road was on a hill so sledding on the road was a challenge we couldn’t resist.  We would go as fast as we could to make it at least half way up the next hilly part of the road.  My sister would get on first because she was six years older, and steered the sled.  I would lay on top of her and my job was to look out for cars.  One time, only one time……I thought it would be funny to yell “car’s coming”.  My sister headed for the side a little too quickly and we ended up head first in the snowbank.

I could go on for hours about the wonderful times we had as kids on a farm.  We were allowed to traverse our land with no thought of harm.  What a blessing for children to have a huge area to wander free and explore.  There were trees and rock formations that could be castles or forts.  No wonder I have a good imagination.  All I have to do is let my mind travel back to that home and all of its beauty.

Visual Prompt-1943

He cracked the reins again, he had to hurry them on. She would need him. He wanted to be there for her, saving her again. She was the Princess, and he loved her.  She had no idea of his feelings. He could not imagine how disgusted she would be if she knew. There was no future for them together, except for him being by her side, ever her protector.

He was strong, always her champion, the beautiful princess of the kingdom. He was only a warrior, scarred from battle. She only thought of him as her friend. One day she’ll be married and be the queen. Then I will watch over the children, as I have watched over her since she was a child.

This is the duty of a guardsman, a warrior, a protector. He slapped the reins again, urging them on.

Daily Prompt:  Relax

Most people relax by themselves, maybe a nap on a comfy couch, or if you’re lucky, at the beach listening to the waves. As a child, one of my favorite ways to relax was to sit on our swing from a huge oak tree in our front yard. From the swing I overlooked the swamp just a short way from the tree. That may sound an unpleasant view to some. To me, I loved it, watching the red winged blackbirds on the reeds, and dragonflies all different sizes and colors. Other birds and butterflies also stopped to visit the swamp. The swing represented freedom and slowly flying back and forth, was relaxing to me.

Daily Prompt:  Moody

What? You think I’m moody?

Quiet and a bit broody?

Well thanks a lot

For that sweet thought.

I used to think I liked you a lot

Before you turned into such a snot.

Just because I’m a bit subdued

Doesn’t mean I’m in a bad mood.

In fact just saying that makes me mad.

I guess you really are a cad.

At first I thought you were very nice

Now you’re as cold as a block of ice.

You think I’m in a mood?

Have a bad attitude?

You ain’t seen nothing yet

Have you seen the scratch on your new Corvette?

Oh yes, my dear

Look right here

That big dent on the drivers side

Oh now, take it easy, no one died.

Gee, sad and depressed,

Now your new car’s a mess?

And the first payments due?

I see you may have a clue.

Now who’s in a mood?
