MLMM – Conscious

Respond to this Friday Faithfuls challenge by writing about the notoriously ambiguous nature of being conscious, or if you think that conscious is defined by having all of your neurons and synapses working together in conjunction with each other, or does being conscious mean that you are aware of your environment and your own existence and thoughts, or do you feel that consciousness is a process in the brain, or is it a behavior that that is controlled by the brain, or you can go with anything else that you think would fit.

I think these days, this year and coming ones, that our conscious mind is too full. I refer to the unconscionable leader we have now, tearing up the constitution and changing laws that were set by our founding fathers. Freedoms have been axed, while military and unqualified, dressed up masked men are running riot all over the states. Where is the consciousness here? Dangerous changes effecting the poor, elderly sick and disabled are frightening. As an ordinary citizen my conscious mind speaks here. I won’t be ruled by unconscious minds.

What Does It Mean to Be Conscious?

Friday Fictioneers

“This is where we’re supposed to meet? Looks a little exposed. The target is in the high rise over there. Isn’t this a little too close?” Joe was nervous about the meet, his usual mindset. He didn’t like to be seen next to a target’s building.
“It’ll be okay, just relax!” While he was saying this, a CIA photographer was recording their movements and listening in. Suddenly Joe pulled his client into the restaurant, out of sight. “The Bob” restaurant was full and Joe thought he thwarted the CIA, but didn’t see the man staring at them from the bar.

I’m going with iPad, because I had the latest update and now everything’s blooey! Of course it couldn’t be my fault that I have to resign into WP or the fact that the annoying paragraph symbol or whatever it is shows up, divides the screen and doesn’t let me see what I’m typing…an annoyance that does not go away.

Another pad I have to use is one to cushion my sore heel. It’s been eight months of treatments and we’re finally seeing some improvement. However, it aches and I’m supposed to keep it up and have no pressure on it. Try that for just a day, such fun…And a reminder that if you or a loved one has to be in bed for a while, remember to check their feet. This could have been prevented if I’d had reliable nursing at a rehab in January. Don’t get me started on the hell hole that facility was but has the reputation of the “best in Cheyenne”. Details available if you have a need to know, I hope you never do. I guess those are the only pads I can think of unless the “pad” I live in😃

Have an excellent weekend!

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Aug. 23, 2025

dVerse Poets

Norse sagas, Latin and Medieval poetry, love songs emote such questioning which has a name: ubi sunt (where are they) a term taken from the longer Latin phrase, Ubi sunt qui ante nos fuerunt (where are those who were before us)?

And our MTB prompt today is simply to use this Ubi Sunt motif in your poetry as such:

  • title your poem with the question – where are the/they…
  • use the questioning within your poem, even with repetition
  • DO NOT ANSWER it though – the questioning is rhetorical
  • employ concepts of mortality, the transience of life, a sense of nostalgia
  • suggested themes: Childhood; Youth; Lost Generation; Days of Yore;
  • employ whatever poetry style of your choosing from free verse to sonnet

where are they

minions of the past

rebels true

unafraid

where are these brave purveyors

I took the upgrade

They kept insisting

A wax, polish and shine

From the Apple design.

I finally let them and now can’t see

Many prompt offerings, just a melee

It’s frustrating while the “upgrade” is firing

And I’m left to search for things

Maybe I should be retiring 😳🥴😵‍💫
